Wedding reception

I know you're not suppose to wear white since that's the bride's color, but can you wear black, burgundy or red to an evening wedding reception? (formal)

depends on the wedding, I DJ weddings, for a conservatie wedding red and black are no no's, burgandy is a winter color so if it is a summer or spring wedding try springy colors

I have to admit I don't see all black or stand out red often at weddings- which with white leaves out like 70% of my closet usually, haha-but I think they would both be acceptable at an evening formal wedding. Also, what would be great are jewel tones- an outstanding turquoise or rich purple or the deepest fuschia or a midnight blue indigo color.

I don't really see red as a color for a wedding. If you go with a color, make sure you don't choose something identical to the bridesmaids (unless you are one).
