What e/s do you use to 'soften' your liner?

I use MAC Dipdown Fluidline or Bobbi Brown Expresso Gel Liner ... sometimes I feel it's too 'harsh' so what do you suggest?

I always use black liner so sometimes I will use Carbon or Typographic. For a brown gel liner you could use something Matte and deep like Handwritten. I like the Matte2 formulas because they are super blendable.

Try using shadow with an angled brush like the 266. I feel like liquid and gel liners are too harsh on me also so I use shadow as liner instead. NARS's Night shadows like Night Flight or Night Clubbing are awesome as liner!

Sometimes I'll use Annabelle's smoothliners which are kohl based so soft and smudgy and other times I'll use showstopper or smoking.

When I use black liquid liner, I always soften the line with Cover Girl e/s in Onyx. I think when you want to soften a harsh line, use a shadow one shade lighter to add softness...a thin shadow of the line

yup, I do that to make my liner look less harsh. I just use any color that's similar but lighter than my liner color to smudge it out. sometimes I just use whatever eyeshadow that I'm wearing on my lid and go over the liner. applying the liner before I do my eyeshadow works too at times
