Definitely great viewing for anyone trying to save a little money with their brushes. I have two of the Maxine Mop style ones, 3/8 and 1/2, and they both work wonderfully as 239 substitutes. 3/8 is the exact size of my 239SE's brush-head, while the 1/2 is a bit bigger. I don't own a regular sized 239, but from what I've heard it matches the SE with it's size. If anyone is interested in comparison pictures, I'd be happy to oblige!
The 187, I've tried Pout's Airbrush as a substitute and it worked wonderfully, but tragically the company seems to have gone kaputz! Sephora's Stippling Brush, I'm not sure of it's proper name, but it works wonderfully as well. Mine feels less dense than the 187, but that could just be an experience with my brush. The main problem with Sephora's is, it's not dramatically cheaper than the 187.
I'm dying to try Flirt!'s skunk brush, but no Kohl's near me seem to carry the full line, boohoo. I hear it's great, and incredibly cheap. Ha, obviously I dont need any more 187 types, really!
I have a great taklon angled paintbrush that I use for fluid-lining, but I can't think of a MAC version of it off hand...I have a
sort of 222 dupe from Michael's, but it's a bit off. Works for blending and all, but it's not perfect...
As for brushes by MAC that seem to be irreplaceable, I'd say the 219 is my top pick. Not to say it's irreplaceable because it's so versatile, lord knows I've used mine maybe four times in the past month, but it's a style of brush that I have not seen in any other line. Hm, that's all I can recall for now, but I'm a massive penny-pincher so I'm sure I'll think of more soon!
