I think gold might take away from the dress; it sounds like it has detailing that should be the focus. I would keep the jewelry, if you do go with gold, small and accenting.
You can always wearing your hair up. If you're worried about being cold (although I find the 5 min. I'm outside is the only time I'm cold at things like that, but I also love to dance), I'd wear my hair in a low pony tail and curl the ponytail
