MAC Grey Friday Collection Discussion (November 2012)

I picked up some NYX lip pencils.

1000 Years - It's not a dupe of MAC Stone. It's actually more grey than Stone. Stone is more of a taupe grey. Grey Friday looked more like the promo image with this pencil.

Latte - A metallic taupe color. It makes Grey Friday look more metallic.

Sweet Bean - A metallic purple taupe. It gives Grey Friday a purple tint.
Thank you! I've been wondering how close they are for ages. Is 1000 Years also darker than Stone? Or do they only differ in tone?

I'd say they differ in tone. I'll take pics once I have enough light.
That would be wonderful, thank you! I'm probably going to get Stone, but I haven't quite decided how many yet. I'd better make up my mind before they disappear completely lol. I have a feeling Stone may also work with Riveting.

WOW!!!! That looks gorgeous!!! Makes me want to buy Magenta l/l to try it with Grey Friday l/s!
It's a unique lip pencil in my opinion and I haven't found anything close to it except one from NYX that I've seen swatched here before (sorry, I do not remember the name). Magenta is not plain, but it has this duo-chrome-ish look to it which is pretty even on its own. If you wear bright colors like Candy Yum-Yum, Girl About Town, OCC Anime, Magenta is a good paired with those colors. The only thing I have a love/hate relationship with this lip pencil is it stains even after I've removed it with make-up remover. It's a positive or negative for everyone depending if you enjoy that staining effect it leaves.

Have you tried one of those oil based makeup removers or the ones that have two layers and need to be shaken before use? For me those work to remove bright lipcolours, but you do have to rub over your lips quite a bit. I also just use a very inexpensive one of around €2 and it still works. I recently got Magenta and it's very lovely. It's a bit too purple for my taste to use with CYY, Pink Pigeon and the like, but I like it for Petals & Peacocks, Outrageously Fun and even Heroine.

Ow and I love the combo you did with Grey Friday!

I haven't tried it with a make-up remover that comes in two layers, but I have tried removing it with the Almay eye make-up removers that's oil based. It seems to break down the color faster than a regular make-up wipe.

Depending on my mood too, I like to mix up the color, but whenever I use Candy Yum-Yum or OCC Anime and I still want that pink to remain I like using the Process Magenta Chromagraphic pencil from MAC.

MAC Magenta = NYX Purple Rain

MAC Magenta = NYX Purple Rain
= HG liner for Violetta

I'm not crazy about Purple Rain's application though. It doesn't seem to apply as smoothly and evenly as my other NYX liners (it's still a good liner, just not as good as the rest). Perhaps it's because of the finish. Or maybe I got a dud

Thanks for your list!

I was in an ULTA recently and picked up the last Black Berry on your recommendation - haven't tried it with Grey Friday yet. ULTA doesn't carry all colors, as you've said, so no 1000 Years. And all the other colors were so picked over, they had maybe half of the colors they had slots for, if that. I almost picked up Purple Rain because it looked like a light cool violet - but i read in another thread that it's close to MAC Magenta on, which surprised me, since it looked metallic light violet in the stick. Sigh.

I did find out that an ULTA will be opening not far from where i actually live early next year. But i wish i could find some store that carries all 60 NYX slim lip pencils so i could see them i person.
