MAC Glitter and Ice Discussion

Maybe Mac-Guy knows the answer to this, but doesn't keeping them in the fridge make them last longer? If so, maybe you could just scoop out a little into a different container and store the rest for future use in the refrigerator to make it last. I've been considering this since I've ended up with SO many PPs over Posh Paradise and Glitter & Ice!

maybe the black one... so i dont have to use blacktrack as a base lol I know how to use them its just i hate buying cream products cos of how perishable they r!

If you find a jar that is small enough, it might work, though personally, I still toss p/p after 6 months, despite using only a spatula to take out the product to avoid contamination with bacteria from brushes that have touched your skin. And more important, I want to reduce free radicals to a minimum for a healthy and wrinkle-free skin, which is more important that holding onto a product beyond its expiration date. I wrote extensively about this topic in the PP thread if you want to read more about it.

It's a pain in the butt to do that pixiedancer... Anyways these formulas can last up to a year (pushing it) if cold, but just so i wouldnt have to be carrying around mini jars, and then storing the larger ones, and then refilling etc....etc..... lol. But maybe that's just me being lazy?

It does sound like a lot of work, I know! I just KNOW that I won't go thru a PP in 6 months... Especially because I have so many now! And I know your frustration with potentially throwing away your cream products! Cash straight in the garbage for just a few months of enjoyment. Not to mention that my favs are these new LE ones! Ugh! Guess I'll try to stretch it to 1 year like you said... Hope you find one you can at least love on for a little while. And if you only have 1 or 2 you may use them up quick enough so it isn't too much of a waste! Sorry you have to leave hun!

How do you store your BU PP's then? And stored, how long will they last? I have ones I haven't used yet, so I need some pointers on how to keep them stored until I go thru other ones first. Any ideas you can share will be awesome! I will try to troll the PP thread... but I know that one was a lengthy one last time I looked at it. I wasn't around yet then so I would need TONS of time to go thru that whole thing! LOL Thanks doll!

I store them in a designated beauty fridge and toss them after six months. Keeping them any longer just calls for an eye infection and/or premature skin aging due to free radicals. I do usually not have more than three or a max of four p/p open at the same time, which allows me to finish most of the product within the timeframe. And to play it safe, I only use a spatula to take out product

Refilling the product in a smaller jar doesn't work too well as it will never be as smooth in the new jar. And the small pockets of air you create in the product are a receipe for dried out p/p and/or contamination.

Personally, I feel it's better to be safe than sorry. Hope that helps. More detailed info is in the PP thread.

Ok, I promise this is the last I'll bother you with this topic...
If I have 2 Let's Skate PP's, and I am using one and the other is my backup that's unopened, in the box, stored in my refrigerator... How long will that stored one stay "good?"
Does the 6 month rule begin once the PP is actually opened and starts being used?
You're a doll for helping me out with this! Up until Posh Paradise and G&I this was never an issue because I only had 2 PP's that I used VERY rarely. So now, with ALL these PP and even BU's, I'm helpless! HeeHee

If it is unopened - and by that I mean not even opened to "admire" the color"* - I'd give it two years, give or take. I know it is very tempting to open (and use!) a new p/p as soon as you get it, but if you delay the grand opening, you will have more fun. As stated above, I try to keep a max. of three to four p/p open at the same time to allow finishing them up. And if you keep you "virgin" BU's in the fridge, you are all set for 2012 and beyond.

* I'm always shocked when I see on ebay or in sales thread pictures of opened p/p but described as BNIB. Once you open them, they are not sealed anymore.

I think the sellers want to show that the p/p is still "untouched," whereas in reality, this simply spoils the product, especially as there might be a big time lapse between the picture and the actual sell date. Oh well...

Yes,this might be the reason and I am sure that a lot of buyers don`t think and/or know about this sanitary point.

So I ordered finally my Dazzlespheres and Such Flare and MAC sent me two coral Dazzlepheres and the Sultry palette instead of just my one pink Dazzlesphere and coral Dazzlesphere @_@ Emailed them... and BAM! They told me to keep it and sent me out my pink one they forgot overnight shipping!

Now I remember why I love MAC :3

Ok. THANKS! This helps TONS! Problem is I DID peak at a few of the Posh PP's to see the colors for myself. (I couldn't resist!) Then I put the cap right back on and put them in the fridge. They've been there ever since. CRAP! Well, now I know better I guess. Do you think they may still be ok for at least a little while since I didn't touch them or anything? Maybe if I pop them in the freezer overnight, like Piarpreet suggested, will that kill anything that may have came in contact with them in that short time?

Everything you said makes PERFECT sense! I just can't believe I never thought of that! I'm SO funny and OCD about how I handle my products.
And I know EXACTLY what you mean about sellers and swappers showing the opened product, ESPECIALLY when you know it's an older, LE product in the first place! I always think to myself... PUT THAT CAP ON DAMMIT!! YOU'RE DRYING OUT THAT PRETTY PP! But it NEVER occurred to me that it actually was also being contaminated. UGH!

I was almost ready to cry about my mineralized eyeshadows creasing after 4 hours, but then I realized I needed a better primer than two faced eyeshadow insurance. Nars smudge-proof works like a charm. It's all better now

Why don't you try to use them up. Remember, you can also mix two or three p/p colors together (take it out of the jar with a spatula) to create your own custom colors. This way, it doesn't feel like you have to use the same colors over and over and you won't get bored by them.

I posted a couple of examples of mixed up p/p on the PP thread (I believe I posted it there - it might be in another thread).

I second that it is very hard to resist not to open new p/p when you get them. I'll wrap mine up in a plastic sleeve and put them immediately in the fridge. This out-of-sight-out-of-mind principle works very well for me and as new p/p come out approximately every 6 - 8 months, I have always something to look forward.

I try to keep one or two neutrals (like Painterly or Nubile) in addition to one or two "fashion" colors. This gives me a lot of freedom and I manage to use most of them up. I also have at least one or two BU's of each color I buy, though I never open them back to back. Having said that, I only buy colors were I know that I will use them as I do not want to waste any product if I can avoid it.

Finally, you can also use certain colors as a cheek highlighter, so if you need to finish a product, think how versatile it is.

I am just beside myself. This morning when I pulled my handbag out I found my How Beautiful bp crumbled in the bottom of it. I don't know how that happened. So happy that it is still available online so I could replace it. I had my doubts about this one at first but it adds such a lovely warm (not brown or orange glow) to your complexion. It is the first product I have found that does that on someone as pale as me.

Oh no. My guess is that the texture is so finely milled that it is prone to crack easily. Once a product has micro-cracks, it won't be long until it totally crumbles to pieces.

Luckily, you got a replacement, but you probably want to stay away from traveling with it.
