When i worked at Sally Beauty there was a customer that drove me nuts. she would come in every few days and exchange a few nail polishes she had done her nails with and say she didnt like them. then get a few more, and a few days later do the same thing. and she would do it with hair color, bring in the almost empty container and say it didnt work and ask for a refund or exchange.... she did it so often she had all these reciepts with my hand writting on them to go thru every time from the last few times oh man!! my DM said i jus had to give her the refund or exchange. we had to throw all that stuff in the garbage.
Someone really returned hair dye? Okay! Lol.

I don't like returning things, I would rather gift the item to a family member if I didn't like it. However, sometimes i've had to return foundations. Now, I try to avoid that buy researching/sampling before I buy. Even If that means getting 5 colors samples of the same foundation, it beats the hassle of a return.
I agree, I think Mac should do kind of like a first look thing. Put the items of a collection out a bit early in stores and allow customers only to sample, that way when it releases they will have less returns. The tactic of no show til a collection launches may be more people jumping the gun and buying, but that is soon going to stray a good few of Mac loyal customers.

Ok so I've always been the same! I now work in a place that feels about 500x more haunted then the Winchester Mystery House. We are completely forbidden to talk about it and I've never experienced any place as eerie in my 37 years. All my coworkers seem to experience the same things in the same areas, it's terrifying!
REALLY???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wanna come visit it! I lived in a haunted house as a kid, and in seattle i worked in a old building that was haunted too. One time i was on the toilet and the built in shelf, built into the sturdy old wall, all the toilet paper rolls came flying at me!!! there were about four, all right at me. And i saw things all the time. that place was so spooky omg. i would take my friends down in the old basement and boiler room after i closed and none of them could stay down there. they would freak out and run cuz it made your hair stand straight up!

Yes she would return everything after using it. i had a few crazies who would continuosly use up there shampoos or conditioners til it was a fourth left then return it saying it didnt work. or even fill it with water or other things to return it. redic!!!! i also hate returning things and rarely do. i returned sakura blush and have been trying to find one ever since, damn i regret that. i have a lot of family who gets things from me. my sister only has makeup in her bag and bathroom that i gave her. so funny. and my grandma and mother. they love it if i dont like something. my mom even wanted the fake mac i got off ebay but i said no one can have it cuz who knows what kinda poison or arsenic are in it! YUK!!

I do agree wtih @HerGreyness about counterfieters looking at early swatches and reviews to get a head start on fake production, it makes total sense mac is trying to prevent that. at the same time, I HATE IT TOO!! i want to see swatches and reviews before buying as well. as far as online returns, i have sold a few items rather than return, made me feel better about waste.

Thanks to all the Specktra boys and girls that share swatches, FOTDs, and reviews so we can make good decisions!
For sure. i always research online, and ask ppl i know who know about product before buying. when i go into a store i know about what i want pretty much. and im lucky cuz all the sephora sa i buy from are super knowledgble and so nice. also i have one chick at mac who knows her shit. she has never steered me wrong on anything.

Oh I commiserate! These people are so clueless and infuriating. I think everyone should have to work retail and food service at some point in their life.
YES!!!! I agree. It really gave me a new perspective on how hard the service and retail industry can be. You have to be able to smile and bite your tongue and take it in the ass basically. Im always nice to ppl in stores. I have a OCD to if i go into stores i feel like i need to front and face everything lol. Im not messy in stores, i put things back where they go. At my tanning salon even i see customers yelling at the poor girls and i jus think geez thats jus a 19 yr old girl, way to pick on someone for something that isnt there fault. they dont make the rules, at jobs we get paid to follow them. i had customers yell at me because they lost there reciept on a flat iron so i couldnt return it, i would say i will lose my job if i do that, sorry i need this job, but heres customer service number call them.

I wonder why Mac releases online first. Seems if they did in store a week prior to online people could check things out first then make a more educated purchase online if they so choose. Does anyone know why its online first?

Holy cow! I had bowls come flying off a tall shelf at me at 3 am- and that was at the non frightening house! I am always seeing things at one of the three houses. I am scared to work alone, esp. If it requires going into the boys bathroom. I work at a county shelter and most of these children have either had horrific things done to them and/or done horrific things to others. The energy in that house is palpable and in room 8 we have had multiple complaints from different children at different times of being thrown out of their beds by a "scary man". The girls in there now will not have the door closed and have taken to piling their dolls outside the door ( they will come alive) and covering the mirror (there are bad things in it). One staff said she went to vacuum one time and the hellish screaming of a child issued forth and she actually threw the vacuum out. That's just the tip of the iceberg

I think there would be less returns if things weren't so "limited" at least with MAC...you can't even wait to see if you'll like something before you buy it for fear it may not be available. I rarely return things, but I've definitely returned more MAC than any other brand because of availability and then it not being good quality.
MAC just thinks "put a limit & lock" on all LE products because of the impulse buy. But are they really gaining anything with all the returns coming in ?Especially with the MSF in FOF . Im returning the one I ordered from the website and keeping the one I got at Nordstrom cuz it has a lot of gold in it. And I think there are so many others doing the same. If they put out samples of the collections before they come out they would have so much less returns, pocket alot more money because people actually know what they are buying. Instead, MAC enjoys the rat race when a new collection comes out. So in reality everyone loses. Its so unnecessary though. And I think they would have happier customers if they allowed us to return to any MAC locations. My mall has 3 MAC stores and if I order online it has to go back through the online order its just ridiculous. They need to hire a new team of people to change some of the stupidity going on with sales & marketing!
They aren't losing money or they wouldn't let you return.

They have figured it all out and must have found that people buy LE like madmen (women) and if they get returns it's still worth it.

Seriously!! I worked in jewelry for years and there was a customer who would exchange every time right within the time frame! And we always knew when they walked in. No one wanted to help because each month you'd have a big ass return to recover the next month. It wasn't hard to recover as most of us were good at sales, however that's 4k I didn't have to make up before. They weren't the worst though... The worst was when a lady had the audacity to through her credit cards at me! It was an unfortunate situation but one many Americans find themselves in and it's not the stores fault. They had bought jewelry, and he lost his job a few months later. Obviously the company isn't going to take it back months later. And to tell me off because of it, is ridiculous. IMO there's far more bad customers than sales people. Normally a firm no will do with sales. Customers you can't do anything about. The worst customer job I had was working at a car dealership...service....yikes.

Uh, scary! I'm so afraid of anything paranormal I can handle anything but paranormal and exorcism. Total sissy in the department! my husband and my cousins used to go ghost hunting at me grandmas her house isn't so old but the area it was build it was a military camp during ww2 so they've caught all kinds of stuff there, then they found things in my old house too:( They love it.
I've seen things, But never had no Tp rolls flying at me. I'd high tail it out of there. No one could even let me watch the conjuring cause i get so freaked.

Wow! just wow. Some people. I really wish people would research before they buy. Or if they don't have the money to buy things don't buy them.
There's weirdos for everything, a while ago I had a lady that gathered up all the testers in her basket and came up to me to ask if she could bring them home to try them out.....
...

Yes seriously.

I asked her what my other customers should try out in the store then.

No matter where I am, I do my best to remember what it must be like for the sales associate. Retail is such a killer and some people just look for any excuse to act superior. Particularly during a recession I've noticed consumers abusing those in retail with the "You're so lucky I'm deigning to spend my hard earned monies here!" Ummm ok. If you haven't the funds, don't get spendy. It hurt to work at Nordstrom where you would be terrified to take days off because you would accrue returns without selling and have to look at the numbers when you returned to work. People would purchase thousands of dollars of merchandise with the specific intent of returning it all after the wedding or cruise. I wanted to just go Exorcism on their asses.

Really? I think i've experienced a stolen tester once but tons of actual sales-products. I would guess people prefer unused makeup over the testers :p
Lol I agree but I think since they're out they are easier to swipe. At my mac and especially my old mac, their testers would always go missing. So gross lol

Same with jewelry! Get to start the month off with a nice fat return. Luckily at my work we didn't really tolerate too much. If they got out of line we would tell them to write corporate. People love calling corporate lol Or to go else where. Obviously I wouldn't say gtfoh crazy but I would say "oh I hear Macys is having a sale, maybe you should try your luck over there." :D

I hate dolls too! And I had wondered why there was always a pyramid of them stacked up by the emergency exit. Suffice to say once I was told why, I had a serious problem with it. My nexus of horror begins and ends with clown dolls. My grandmother was big on those. And I completely agree about the house needing a blessing- it is universally dreaded by those who work there.
