Hit a Jew Day ?

Substitute any ethnic group, or any Human Being or animal
for "Jew,"
and it would still be an atrocity.

Hate and ignorance. My Heart hurts.

I cannot understand people who commit actions such as these;
where do the children learn to be anti-semites?
Where do we learn prejudice? I don't think anybody is 100% free of prejudice of any kind.

“Educators said they do not believe the incident was done with hatred or prejudice.”

“There are fewer than 30 Jewish students at Parkway West Middle School, which has an enrollment of 850 students.”

This video is from CNN.com, broadcast October 23, 2008.

We must combat hate and prejudice in this world. Surely Human Beings can rise above people who act in such a way.

My friend was telling me about it (it was evidently in her hometown).

Beyond the sheer prejudice of the students for hitting Jewish students, she claimed that the school would also have "hit a tall kid" day. Since when is it okay to hit anyone? Given that they had a "Hit a ___" day prior to this, I can't help believing that the school wasn't somewhat aware that the students were having mean spirited days.

Why would they want to have " Hit anybody Day", People please talk to your kids about RESPECT and COURTESY, beyond that I have no words.

Yes, I heard about this story as well. I was so sad to read this type of stuff is still occuring in our society. Unfortunately many kids learn this from their families at home. We must teach them that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated - ever!

Kids can be very cruel, especially middle schoolers!

Middle school comprised my least favorite 3 years, ever.

Hopefully they will be disciplined.

I agree that middle school kids really are the meanest of the bunch...and I agree when did it become okay to hit anyone?!

Yes, kids can be very cruel. I hated middle school very much!

However, being a kid in school is no excuse for cruelty,
such as
violence and racism.

I know. How truly frightening.
Where were the adults if they were unaware ?

It's sad.

& maybe the weirdest part:

“Educators said they do not believe the incident was done with hatred or prejudice.”

I guess that means, "It was done...with...love? For fun?"

???

No. With thick-headedness and a lack of knowledge.

Sorry.

I vote for a "Hit the dumbass who started 'Hit a ___ day'".

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Some people are so stupid it is sad.

I know...just when I think people here are becoming more accepting of diversity....
a punch in the face with a big boxing glove which reads:
"HATE & IGNORANCE" in HUGE Red letters.

There's something weird about this story, beyond the fact that its horrifying. I feel like there's more to it. Am I the only one?

"Horrifying" is a perfect word to describe the incident.

"Weird"...Yes, probably because it
isn't the most normal occurrence in a school here (nowhere, I pray...against *anyone,* although I would sound incredibly naive to believe prejudice doesn't work itself out on people, in evil ways, due to who they are, every Day)...

Hitting *any*person for who he/she is goes against most people's morals, I think.

Do you think these students were sick enough to engineer a "school
spirit week'' with a goal of leading up to the "Day" in question?

Do you think "there's more to it" besides hate, prejudice and ignorance?
