Re: MAC 2008 Icon / Dame Edna Discussion
I would like to go on record and announce my unwavering love and loyalty to all things drag. What drag lovin' makeup devotee could object to a Dame Edna MAC collection?!?!?!?...Certainly not THIS drag lovin' makeup devotee!!!! Just when I thought MAC is the best company in the world, they do something that makes me giddy with joy AND they prove me right!! MAC IS THE BEST!!!! Now I will say, my one wish that cannot be fulfilled by the Great MAC counter in the sky is an Icon Collection featuring Tammy Faye.
However, Dame Edna sure goes a very long way to soothe my ache!
On a serious note, can I just say how much I appreciate MAC's ongoing commitment to celebrating every kind of person and lifestyle. Perhaps Dame Edna is not your cup of tea (unintentional pun), but I am sure that you would still agree this dame is an unconventional choice for any cosmetics company to devote a line of products to. This kind of bold statement about how beauty can be defined, allows other unconventional or often ignored groups of people to be bold and live with a greater conviction that change is not only possible but it has arrived. I was morbidly obese for many years and the MAC counter was one of the only places I could go in the mall and be treated with kindness like any other customer. To me, Dame Edna makes an important contribution to makeup/beauty equal to a Raqual Welch or Liza Minelli. The tone of Dame Edna's message is slightly different, in that Dame Edna's iconic status is fueled by promoting individuality and unabashedly being who and what you want to be. If you ask me, nothing is more glamorous than defining yourself and living unashamed and uncompromised. So Dame Edna, rock on whichya bad self (and while you're at it, make a fierce eye pallette or quad with plenty of BN-LE colors)!
WOO HOO!!!!
