Seeeeeeeee, I told you guys about the SE brush sets, they are truly horrible, with no exaggeration whatsoever.

These ones are for SURE! But i've gotten a set or two before and, granted, they aren't comparable to fullsize, but they haven't been scratchy or overly sheddy... i have a 168SE from like 3 years ago that I'm comparing to this new one and it's WAY better... it's weird

Basically I am looking for a non-frost Port Red (love the colour).
So when the collection comes here, I will see which of the colours comes closest to that.
Racy sounds like it, but pinks do no look to great on me. Definitely will also look at MAC Red and Russian Red.

Red She Said wouldn't work then, it's blue based, while Port Red is yellow based. Hope that gives you a better idea. The closest would be Racy, but I don't know how frosty that is. Since I've only swatched it on my hand. I actually just got my package, I need to pick it up, once I've tried it I can let you know the frost level since I never got Port Red. I personally prefer blue based reds.

I went from wanted 2-3 eye palettes, 2 brush sets, 2 lip bags and 1 lip palette... to only really wanted the warm eyes palette. WOW. This is like... record-breaking for me. RED is my absolute fave color and I thought I would love all of this, because of the packaging. But if the product included is crap, I don't have the money to waste for pretty packaging. Boo

I actually think the brushes are decent for the price. The 129 is pretty much crap and so is the 266 - worthless except for eyebrows *maybe*, BUT I have already gotten a good amt of use from the 212, 219, 239 and 217. I have all the full size ones of the same and whereas there are definitely quality differences, they've applied my makeup just as well.

But I DO think the reasons the prices were lowered is b/c these obviously aren't worth $49.50 as perhaps some of the sets in the past were. I think the bag is ugly and crappy though!

Anyways I posted some pics and a rough review on them at my blog, so feel free to check it out (below).

Thanks, that helps a lot. I love Port Red, but I would also like to have one that is not frosty (better for the day).
The collection will arrive here next week. Thank you very much

I have last years face brush set and that wasn't too shabby at all. i was hoping to get this year's basic brush set until I saw them in person. It was reaaaaaal shitty. The 187 was crap compared to the 187 from last years set. It was really bad..the 129 was crap too OMG it seriously did seem like something you find in a brush set from a 99cent store.

I took that $35 and went to Target to get some good Sonia Kushak brushes instead.

I'm trying to stay very strong and not buy anything, hoping that all the palettes will hit CCO in a few months, hahaha.
CCO in Tulalip, WA still has palettes from 07.
If not, so be it. I have too much m/u as it is. But I have to admit, red packaging looks so dang tempting *sigh*

Same here. I went from wanting 2 eye palettes and 2 brush sets to wanting none of them now. I'm just not too impressed with Cool eye anymore (I was really excited about it b4). I like last year's Cool eye better. And the brush sets...after listening to what you guys have to say...I'm not going to waste money on that and just go get a full size #187.
yes.gif
But yeah...the red packaging is really tempting...but no...not gonna get it.

For those severely disappointed about the quality of the brush sets and still wanting red brushes, why not simply:

a) get smashbox brushes

OR

b) paint regular MAC brushes yourself

?

It looks like Starlet Kiss on me too. So I skipped the bag and got Neutral instead. I'm still thinking about Romancin' and To Swoon For all the time.

I almost got the nude lips myself, but I have so many nude lippies and Ive been hearing such good things abotut he rose lips that I decided to get the Rose bag.

I wore....I forget which one today....it was okay. I think it was To swoon For. It wasnt that great but it was ok. Then again I was in a rush and just swiped it and went...so I need to play with them a bit more

Im not getting any of the brush sets.Im actually really happy that nothing is jumping out at me too bad. I dont have the money for this and it seems like I dont even have time for makeup anymore, which is a damn shame

I was hardly even excited about my black box arriving today. Nothing in it excited me, except for my foundation.

Are the brushes really THAT bad?
I thought about getting the face brush set. I don't have mac brushes at all (at least no blush brush, foundatio brush, etc.) and I wonder whether the brushes are really that bad if you never used any mac face brushes before?

IMO, yes they are! With that $35/$50 bucks, you could get some great brushes from Sonia Kashuk or even Coastal Scents. If you're still considering the brush sets though, I strongly urge you to go check them out in person before buying.
