MAC and Gareth Pugh Discussion

So, tonight at the Holiday preview, I pumped some of my other MAs for info on Gareth Pugh.....

First off, we were discussing the greyish lipstick. It is SILVER in a big way - not light silver, but platinum grey - he pointed to the chrome displays on the holiday collection stands.....I asked "that metallic??" and he said not quite that, but it's definitely grey. It seems that it's a brand new kind of matte formula that MAC is testing the waters with. There's a possibility that this is going to become a brand new official finish down the line. I was wearing Prince Noire and my MA said it's matte like that but even more and better. Also, it seems like it's very workable, so that you get get quite a sheer application or something denser, without it looking heavy or thick. Wow, the possibilities!

Then we talked some more about the packaging and the in-store display. First off, there will be a video monitor as part of the display, showing Gareth Pugh's collections and the looks you can get with the makeup. He was very enthusiastic about how cool it will be.

He confirmed the packaging is square. The beauty powder is in a very large and heavy rectangular case - expect it to be huge - he showed me with his hands - we're talking maybe 4" x 3" or even a touch larger. All the packaging has a textured finish with a repeating pattern of embossed X's. The lipsticks are in a square tube that is chrome instead of the black of the other pieces (it's possible I may have misunderstood the chrome finish - I was having a few marshmallow martinis at that point!).

Even if the prices are prohibitive for you, the cool silver trend is the way things are going to be, going forward, so if you want some grey and silver and white colors in your life, get ready because they're coming - even Naturally is going to have a cool cast to the general color story.

Well, another confirmation that this is the standout collection from the most recent update! Get your pennies together!!

oh, and it's officially releasing on Black Friday - the day after American Thanksgiving, if that hasn't already been confirmed.
Thanks so much for all of the info, liba! I'll be out of town that day, but my birthday is two days after... I may even be able to shop at a MAC pro for once!

Can't wait for grays, silvers, Strada, and beauty powders!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those lipsticks sound beyond amazing. And now, I'm reconsidering whether or not I really want to pass on Naturally... Cool nudes are wwwaaaaayyyyy more interesting to me than warm ones. My wallet hates you, Liba. The rest of me loves you, of course.

AARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! SO EXCITING!!!

Reading that has just made it easier for me not to buy more from glitter and ice and put money away for this collection... excited for Strada and a buffer and now interested in these lipsticks too

Strata looks beautiful on you Katred!

My "mini" haul will be really expensive... from color descriptions and suggestion I may like: Strada blush (I hope the packaging is stunning, I would prefer something metallic but not chrome!), restrict lipstick ( but I'd like it to not be a silver but a creamy grey), vacant? (really curious about that), ascension (if it is stunning or a duochrome nail polish!), buffer brush!!! (I want a square handle buffer brush *___*)

I'm looking forward to this collection, sounds like it is going to step out of the box a bit. I'd like it to be 'out there' but also able to make it wearable. The packaging sounds really nice, I looked up Pugh's bags and they are very stylish classic way with the quilting but modern due to the way the quilting is done. I'd definately like a palette reflecting that style, which from Liba's description, sounds like they do. I'd like the compacts to be metal, I don't own any metal compacts. I like square lipsticks too, they fit together better for storage haha. It does sound like there will be a lot of fingerprints on everything though which I am sure will bug some people.

Dont know if this has been posted already but i was doing some browsing and i came across this.... makeup thats like a weapon?? now that is my kind of makeup!!!!

http://fashionista.com/2011/07/gare...aboration-with-mac-its-kind-of-like-a-weapon/

He was wearing nail varnish from the collection (which we were forbidden to photograph, much to our chagrin). It’s an iridescent shade that looks green or purple, depending how the light hits it. If this is like mean green VV nail polish then i'm getting it! I love that baby to death along with the other too but I need as many shades like that as possible! Thanks for finding this!!!!!

We've got opening nite in less than two weeks, and that means less time for swatches but more rehearsals. If I manage to take some pics, I'll post them.

In addition, after the stupid iPhone software update last week, I can't seem to email pictures anymore, which means I have to download them via iPhoto on my laptop. It's just irritating, but I hope the problem resolves itself soon.

The more I think about it, the more I'm certain I want to skip G&I/ Dazzlespheres/ Ice Parade so that I can get more from this collection. There are so many items that catch my eye and they sound like they'll be more unique for me. Certainly both lipsticks could be right up my alley (in different ways). I hate paying the high prices, but I really loved the packaging from last year, so I don't begrudge it.

FYI, I posted a couple of looks on my blog, including the one with Strada (pic I posted a little while back). There are more photos there, if, for some strange reason, you're still undecided. Seriously, fair-skinned ladies need this.
