Hi Linda!

If you're using your glosses/glasses with your lipsticks, particularly, So Scarlet...remember So Scarlet is a creme and will have a high success rate in bleeding/feathering on the lips if you’re not careful.

So it is very important to ensure they have the perfect liners as a base.

I highly recommend the Cremestick Liners since they are waterproof to avoid bleeding/feathering, especially when playing with the lip glosses or anything else that will move on your lips. This will give your lipsticks a fighting chance.

Regular lip pencils are not waterproof and you may run into trouble with them if you are using glosses with them.
They are not impossible, though, as long as you’ve implemented your blotting techniques as you apply.

For So Scarlet l/s I would, also, recommend the Velvetella Cremestick Liner. And don’t let these darker lip pencil colors fool you! Once they are on you may blend them out, or soften them as light as you like. Often times they appear nothing like they do in the pencil as they do on the lips!

hahaha - well I'm not ghastly pale

- NW15 - ok, maybe NW17 since I've been gardening & riding my bike in the sun

*let's see, if I ride my bike to Houston I could be an NW18 by then*

Thanks ladies! It is always look at something you know beforehand that it is not for you and still try it anyways and find out you were right.
Seems like I am darker than you.

No gardening here, but I bicycle as well. Even if it means I cannot sit the next day

Wow, Kirsch and Jampack look great on you. You look very Marilyn.
And now I will definitely try Blooming.
Is it September yet?!

And thanks for showing the colours!

Sorry if you knew that already

Edit: for some pale girls it even looks best when the blush is brighter (and cold) pink than just pale (warm) rose, which washes them out. It depends, of course, but sometimes the thing you didn´t think of could be just right. At the moment, L'Oreal has this Blush Delicieux in Pale Marshmallow (no 1) in case you need a colour for reference - sorry, that´s just the one coming to my mind right now as explanation. MACs Pink Swoon is also a bit like that.

Thanks, this could be it. I tried O and supposedly it is a warm colour and it was horrible on me.
Yes, my hair are very dark and my eyebrows and lashes are black as well.

Now I just need to find out how to see if a colour is warm or not. Do you have a tip for this?

Would you say Blooming and Plum du Bois are cool or warm colours?

yeah, from the swatches it looks definitely golden; I will not even try it, does not make any sense for me.

Then it seems very much that you could be a cool-coloured type.
I go according the separation in seasons: spring (light warm colours), summer (bright or pastel cold colours), autumn (well, autumn colours, golden greens and oranges too and warm reds, burgundy.. ), winter (strong cold colours, often bright). It´s not superstrict, though, people should choose what they like best, but it does give some orientation if wished so.

But one can also just separate between cool and warm colouring, without the seasons.

hm, this is a bit difficult to explain. There are pages on the web, but because every screen is different, colours don´t necessarily look true.

You could start looking at the things you have already, both clothes and make-up. Try to see a pattern for example in the reds and browns, there are cold brown eyeshadows (like mothbrown), and warm brown which go in the direction of being red-dish, or have gold shimmer. A cold brown for example would match great with silver and has no or not much red. (That´s also the reason for the punched-eye look, when those who can´t wear it, use warm brown or pinks as eye-shadows).

Well, for MAC I think it is possible to first of all check carefully their descriptions of each colour. That already gives a lot of information. Often they mention also things like "warm/cool" or which kind of shimmer something has. "Bronzed" also is almost always warm.

I think you should really experiment at home with different shades of the same colours and those which make you look especially fresh and great and your complexion look right, these are the right ones. Then you can look at their colour description (in case of make-up) and see how they are being characterized. So you can develop an eye for which shades of colours are the best. Also for clothes, look, try and compare and you will develop a feeling for it. Often there is a reason why specific things are your unconscious favourite: because it just looks great on you. Then see which colour family it comes from
smiles.gif

Note: this does not have anything to do with yellow or rose undertones of skin; that´s a different setting and each of them can be warm or cool-toned.

I'm sure there exist also more detailed explanations on this (and more scientific
winks.gif
), maybe others have an idea, too?

I haven´t seen them in person myself (next week hopefully), I am very interested in Blooming; from the swatches Plum du Bois looks a bit warm, too. But only from that it's hard to say. Since you have dark hair, it is possible that you could wear it. Still, the description (if I can´t see in person; it I read the description really_carefully) says: Plum du Bois - Frosted deep pink bronze with gold pearlized pigments (Frost) (LE).
So it has bronze and gold, which both are warm.

This is very true. I only use regular pencils, b/c I can work with them better for some reason? But, in this: FOTD I used a pencil, not a cremestick. This pic was taken after a few hours of wear. It is important to note that the blotting is important if you use a regular liner, but also remember to smudge the liner up into the lip a bit. That helps the color from bleeding (on me at least).

I am wearing the Shadowy Lady Quad again today. LOVE it. I can't believe I almost passed this one up. The Shadowy Lady in this quad is much better than the original. I can blend it out so much easier, and it looks fabulous with Smudge Violet!

I'm wearing it too (see my avatar)! I think the shades are so sultry and sexy. Are you going to post your FOTD so we can see your hotness?

Can't wait for my Tempting quad to come. I'm a little scared of Sharp, but I think if I use it as an accent I can work it.

MzzRach, rbella, and Tam Eva Le Fay, thank you all very much for your advise. I know that my Half-Red L/L was a bit too purple, as my MA agreed. All of your color suggestions seem good, and I like creme liners, even though I have'nt used the MAC cremes yet. I also just started using MAC Prep + Prime for my lips, so we will see if this helps with feathering, and holding color.

Yes, they are long wearing...at least for me. I've worn them in hot weather, eaten, & most of it was still there. The new ones seem to stain the color into my lips.
