MAC - Flashtronic Discussion

Re: Flashtronic

I totally caved and bought the rest of the Flashtronic e/s that I didn't purchase online. Also bought two more rushmetal pigments and Thrills l/s. I'm in LOVE with the pigments - super fun finish. And I was shocked and how much I actually did love the Flashtronic e/s.

Trying to tell myself it's just super fun and I'll smile every time I look at them, even if I never touch them. Is that so wrong?

Re: Flashtronic

I only got Northern lights and Global glow. I tried both on when I got home and they look lovely together. I already have Shimpagne and Gold Spill looks the same on me so I passed. I don't think the MSFs are glittery/chunky. They just give a nice glow on the cheeks. I swatched all e/s and they didn't impress me much. I like By jupiter and Mercurial but not enough to buy them. I only got samples of Goldmode, Mauvement, and Cocomotion which I liked of all pigments. I will go back to get the lip stuff, when I bring my empties. I really want to B2M for Thrills l/s, this is sooo pretty.

Re: Flashtronic

there's so much discussion about gold spill vs. shimpagne and northern lights vs. glissade ...

could someone who is lucky enough to be the proud owner of all these delightful msfs post some comparison swatches on the swatch thread? there's tons of comparison pics of the actual products, but i can't find comparison swatches. thanks in advance ladies and gentlemen!!

Yes they are. They are a hot glittery mess, esp. when using the 227 which is the brush they are marketing with them. I suppose you could work with them to build color, but I don't honestly think it is worth the effort, considering the price of the product.

Well in the case of Northern Lights v. Glissade, they look similar in the pot, but wear differently. Glissade is a soft coppery color with a hint of plum, whereas NL is peachy/apricot color. I will probably make some swatches tomorrow, but I am NW45 so I am not sure how helpful that will be to you.

Not if it makes you happy. I am all about rationalizing makeup purchases (and non-purchases).

Put the shadows over a shadestick and VIOLA! Gorgeous and neat!! And apply with the 224 brush.

I didn't think the pay off of any of the shadows was great, and I think there are perm/reg eye shadows that are more practical and work better for looks that the MES. Here is what my break down would be:

Lovestone = Cranberry. Period. At best Lovestone is the slightest bit lighter/softer so blending Cranberry with Star Violet would achieve the look.

Ether is less blue than Aire-De-Blue or Fade, and more sheer and shimmery that Swan Lake. I think you could play with Swan Lake & Aire-De-Blue or Fade and a tiniest bit of Scene to get the look.

Tectonic would be the love child of Greensmoke e/s and Golden Olive pigment.

Mercurial = Shale with a softest wash of Retrospeck, Gleam, or Jardin Aires pigment on top. Or you could just use Idol Eyes.

And for By Jupiter and Quarry? They were pretty forgetable. They were simply neutral washes of color. I am sure you could dupe them easily with a lustre shadows like Mythology + Honey Lust or Honesty for By Jupiter and any griege color for Quarry.

I think any duping combo you could come up with would give you the base color of the MES in an ideal world, as in what you wished they looked like, so I think you might be happier with the dupes you could create.
I hope that helped, and I mean no offense to anyone who loves these shadows (I liked the MSF...).

I strongly disagree here.
The texture and pigmentation are very different, more pronounced and frosty on the Lovestone side. Try it wet especially!

It is also more pink than Cranberry is more Red.
Maybe someone could post a swatch? That would be a good one atcually. My camera is broken, otherwise I would.

I love everything from the collection

but I have 2 "BUTs":
-when you mix the colors of the mineralize e/s sometimes some of them don't look as good and look a bit duller.
I'd like the swirls to be more in patches and not in lines all other the place.
It does look so pretty when it's new but when you use it, it gets messy and the color you want to use changes.
I guess that you can improvise.
-The liplosses.
Why aren't they shimmery when the whole collection is???
I didn't get any and they looked Blah... Not very MAC...

I got everything else than the l/g though. Now, I am broke. For a while! LOL!

I think that is exactly why. How much shimmer can one wear all at once?

Well, there is a degree of shimmer and transparency that a gloss can have and can be really nice and neutral.
These l/g are thick and opaq. Too much coverage too my opinion for this look.
Good for the winter maybe.

Re: Flashtronic

IMO I found that using a sponge brush gave me better color payoff than using a typical eye brush. I'm happy with the eyeshadows all in all, I wouldn't say they are glittery more like shimmery.

Re: Flashtronic

i picked up ether mes, lovestone mes, northern lights msf, &young spark l/g yesterday from flashtronic. i haven't gotten a chance to play with the mes at home YET, but when i was at the f/s, one of the MAs was doing a mini-makeover on another gal, using ether WET and the color payoff was really nice! my MA told me that using them wet will NOT make them hard &yucky like the regular e/s.

ok &northern lights is my first msf. i kind of applied it blush style today w/ a kabuki brush, but i'm sure this is NOT the best technique. what is the best way to apply? what brush &stroke style?

Re: Flashtronic

Well this collection ended up being a hard one for me. They e/s themselves are so beautiful in the pot,.. but I ended up returning my Techtonic (this is Rye from Catherine D just seperated out), By Jupiter (I might have liked this one if I could find one that was mostly gold and cream), and Ether (ended up looking bruisy on me). In many cases the veining played a HUGE part of the color the final product is and in some cases,.. when I got it home I didnt like it. I swapped out my Mercurial for one with nearly no brown, gold veins and now love it. I also swapped out one of my Gold Spills,.. this one in particular was a huge difference,.. I got one with nearly no dark brown in it and it is stunning,.. but the second one I bought had a lot of the darker brown and it looked like mud. My quarry has only the barest hint of the tan/beige color and ended up being very lovely. I think the most special one however was lovestone. They managed to refrain from putting a "Mulch-like" brown in this one and it comes out stunning no matter how I attacked it with my brush. Northern lights was another stunner,.. the veining in this one didnt matter,.. they all came out totally gorgeous. (I got a couple of them). Global glow and Shooting star are very very close in application appearance but Global Glow is the tiniest bit lighter and has a very slight peach undertone,.. very slight. It actually looked a bit better applied than Shooting Star. If you missed out on Shooting Star, get Global Glow and you'll be a happy camper,.. it has a much nicer more Shimpaigne-like texture. All in all though I still dropped a bundle on this one,....

For my MSF applications I use my 182, my 187, and/or my 180. Just something that is good for buffing,... I start very light and build it up.

I absolutely agree with everything you said here, particularly about how the colors look when mixed. I tried a version of the "Electro-Lush" look on the MAC site today and while it was "pretty" the eyeshadow combination did look a bit muddy. Even though I used UDPP the color didn't say as long as I wanted it to either. But layering By Jupiter over Lovestone ended up taming the pink/purple and looking duller and muddy.

If the veining wasn't as uncontrolled as it seems to be on most of these the colors could be a lot more clean and easier to work with. Concerning the Lovestone/Cranberry issue, I think there's so much variance between pots with the veinging what one person gets is totally not representative of what another person gets.

Don't get me wrong... I still love this collection. I just probably will be using one pot at a time rather than trying to blend colors.

Re: Flashtronic

I only got Northern Lights and Gold Spill. The e/s were lovely, but reminded me of others I already own when I swatched them:

By Jupiter- Woodwinked
Ether- Blue Absinthye + Plumage
Technotronic (looked like a gremlin in the pot)- Sumptous Olive
Quarry- Oceanique
Mercuric- Shale + Goldenaire
Lovestone- Cranberry + Apricot Pink/Rose

Re: Flashtronic

when you mix the colors together, every shadow/msf looks different. the lovely ma at my counter actually let me dig through their stock to find the ones i like, so i found myself a northern light that's covered in rusty coral veins. i also found a quarry that had >50% olive and quite a bit beige (almost no blue at all)
