MAC Glitter and Ice Discussion

How similar would anyone say Hold That Pose is to Rare Find? Are they different enough to warrant having both?
Rare Find is a number of shades darker, and also with more brown and more fuchsia. Hold That Pose reads predominately like a pale silver with a pink sheen to it when applied wet, and like a very sheer, pinkish white silver when applied dry. Over a p/p, more of the pink comes out, but it's still mostly silver overall. The other huge difference is that these G&I MES have a totally different texture than the Semi-Precious MES - they are much more sheen only, and a very finely milled and smooth, dense sheen, rather than sheen plus glitter plus transparency plus frost of the SP MES.

It was a huge dilemma for me to decide whether I was going to go for Frozen Blue or Hold That Pose - they are THAT similar, especially when wet. Frozen Blue is prettier dry, with a blue opalescent sheen effect, but Hold That Pose is a tiny bit more flattering, especially wet, due to the pink cast. If you can find a Frozen Blue with a lot of blue veins, then there would be more difference, but it seems my store's shipment was pretty much vein-free.

Looking over upcoming colors, I'd say that there'll be more chance for a dupe of Hold That Pose than Frozen Blue - perhaps the pink/taupe pigment coming out with the Daphne Guiness collection.

Thanks, liba. Hold That Pose is now on my list, pending swatches of course. Sounds like the MES's are somewhat lighter on than they are in the pan (at least going from the official pictures). I had been thinking that perhaps the Daphne Guiness pink/taupe pigment would be closer to Snow Season.

The paint pots are definitely on my list

I need more swatches too to decide what to take! This collection is coming out so soon and everyone here is already booking the collection... but I must see before buy something!!!

oh... and suddenly it is dropping off my list!

and it is off the list! it's not actually that interesting :(

It's definitely something to check out in person. As liba said, some people might love it while others might hate it. I'm just unimpressed as a clear n/p with some glitter thrown in it does not wow me at all.

Same here, for both HTP and FB. I will check out some different stores to see if I find some with veining, but I certainly won't go on giant hunt to find them. The texture of the MES is very nice indeed and most of them are buttery to apply. I didn't get Shimmermint as it is too close to the Seafoam shade from the STO stack and the green in the graffiti palette swatches very similar but less in your face. Thus, no Shimmermint for me at this point.

I inquired about the veining - Frozen Blue and Shimmermint are not particularly veined, across the board. Hold That Pose and Winterized have plenty of veining in general. I managed to get a Fresh Ice that had some decent veins of silver and pink in it, but it honestly doesn't really need the veins to be beautiful (same for Shimmermint, but the vein verdict on Frozen Blue is out- i personally think it would benefit from pronounced blue veins).

Not in much of a position to swatch, but you know me, I'll try to answer what I can, plus perhaps I'll manage some crappy face photos, because some of the lipsticks are frikken gorgeous but aren't gonna look like much unless you see it full face.

yep, this is a polish that is not going to sit well for every taste - like I was saying above, I guarantee you that some people are gonna think it looks cheap and tacky. It's a love it or hate it glitter polish for sure....you can tell they were trying their best to do something interesting while still keeping production costs down. There's an automatic difficulty in that!

I'd say you may get the most out of it putting it over another polish - I've had it over Jade Dragon since Sunday and it's worn great and hasn't chipped or flaked at all. The dark blue glitter saves it from just being totally immature.

It was mostly female waitresses decked out in the same costumes as the girls in the promo pic, serving up martinis made with marshmallow vodka while on roller blades. I only saw one male waiter the whole night and only for an instant - I'm thinking he might have been the caterer and was just coming out to help out the waitresses in the massive crush of people.

Soft Sable is

!!! It's the love child of Call My Bluff and Pet Me, Please, which happen to be two of my favorite nudes. So, basically the same color and glossiness as Call My Bluff, but with the same type of frost (perhaps a touch whiter) as Pet Me, Please mingled in, in a not overwhelming or too frosty-metallic way. LOVE, I tell 'ya....LOVE.

People love Beauty Powders, so perhaps these will do well, but funny enough, the product that was really blowing out of the store tonight at the preview was Fresh Ice MES. I don't think the MAs were even pushing it that hard, considering almost everyone was rocking Shimmermint, even the boys, but the customers wanted Fresh Ice!
This sounds lovely.

with both b/p. SG is the perfect all-over highlighter for me, whereas HB is a very natural, subtle cheek flush. I'm rocking it with Seaside on the lids + Sand & Sea e/s on top + Carbonized in the crease. A hint of Seeds of Desire sheered out on the lip. OMG, it's gaaawwwgous.

I think I might go BU-crazy for both b/p.

I have a lot of goldish, more yellow toned highlights, and no pink ones. Are either of these more pink tones?

Just a word of caution - and I know I sound like a broken record but in this case it is crucial: do not swatch the b/p with fingers and only use a fresh brush to apply it. The powder is so finely milled that it will grab onto anything and melt together with whatever comes in its way. It's gorgeous on the face as you can feel it melt into your skin w/o much buffing. However, if you use a finger or a brush that you have previously used, it will instantly form a sort of film on the powder surface and it will not swatch at all anymore. The compacts at the party yesterday were a good - and well exaggerated - example of that kind of disaster.

Having said that, I absolutely adore both b/p and IMO, they are the stars in this collection next to Let's Skate p/p.

They are more pink-beige with subtle brownish undertones. For my NW15 - 20 skin, they are both perfect. I don't know how they will work out on NC and/or darker skintones.

O... M... G... I pulled out CMB yesterday and I'd forgotten how pretty and flattering it was. (Weird, because the similar taupe-y colour from Fabulous Felines didn't look nice on me at all. Sometimes a tiny shift in colour makes all the difference.) PMP has been one of my favourites since it came out. I absolutely adore it and have nothing else close in my considerable collection. So I might need Soft Sable after all.
