MAC Hey, Sailor! (Summer 2012) Discussion

I got out for the cycle for a while & then saw what I was missing. Plus I scored a whole bunch of older, great things at the CCO- but those CCO workers are MEAN! Crazy mean. Accusing me of reselling stuff on line (which is as far fro the truth as possible) b/c I was buying & went over the price limit. I think they even made a note in my file b/c u have to give them ur ID. If I didn't want all the stuff so badly I would have chewed them out. They were saying no one will ever use this much make up & I probably won't hit pan on a lot of it but I will have at least played with everything.
When I got my first job in my teens, I discovered Electa and Corrado (I grew up in Montreal) and pretty much bought everything in their line I could hope to pull off. It wasn't a ridiculously large stash, but it was a lot of good quality makeup for a kid. I also go into hair colour and products. I indulged while I was in school but once I graduated from uni and moved out on my own, I just couldn't afford it. I still bought the odd lippie or e/s, but nothing like I had. I've always been a huge believer in not spending money I didn't have, and after rent and food, well...

I found MAC in my 20s but by then I had a mortgage and kids came along soon after. I've had Mocha, Retro and VG1 in my makeup bag at all times for over a decade, but I just never got back into makeup in a big way. I'd have a couple of blush, three or four lippies and a quad or two and that would be it.

I was filling my daughter's makeup list this fall at MAC and I ended up swatching a bunch of stuff for myself. I went through my makeup drawer and trashed just about everything and decided I needed to start again. I really only intended to buy a couple of blush, some new lippies, e/s and a liner or two. Not sure what happened to draw me to the dark side, but I've bought just a little more than that.

I have a really good base now and I don't see myself buying at the pace I did over the last six months. I only have one face and can only go through so much stuff. I'm still filling a few holes, so I'll pick some things from the fall/winter lines. After that though, I'll just go back to buying the odd thing. That's what I did when I had what I wanted in my teens, and I'm no different now. That's how I tend to shop in general; get what I want, stop when I'm done. I don't enjoy having more than I think I can use - that's not fun for me. :)

All of this "drama" is bringing back repressed memories of 4 years at an all girl high school!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but since none of this actually applies to the Hey, Sailor! collection, I'd love it if people could take their issues to PM. Or you know, hug it out. Might I remind everyone of this awesome thread? http://www.specktra.net/t/179819/thank-yous-for-going-above-beyond-specktra-is-amazing

Bringing the topic back around, I really like FF blush. I'm glad I ordered it, despite killing my wallet w/ the TC collection. The formula is so nice! I'm telling myself that i don't need LA. Hopeful that all future blushes will be this soft and blendable.
Do you mind describing FF for me? I so want it but am not sure it will suit me -- I'm NW20 with some redness in the cheeks.

Thanks for your help.

Kinda love how I basically get called an idiot and barely anyone says anything! *My little rant*

I'm still deciding if I want Fleet Fast and Crew. Guess I'll just wait until Thursday to see if it will work for me or not.
I think people were trying /hoping things wouldn't get worse. No comment = no attack. Nobody thinks were an idiot.

Did you buy the oargasm/laguna duo, or singles?
I bought singles. The duo was cheaper, but there was a lot less product so I thought it was better value to buy them separately.

I'm glad I didn't buy FF; if I had, I wouldn't have let myself have the Orgasm (er...that didn't quite come out right). ;)

Please, keep posts in this thread to what they are supposed to be. Enough of the ranting. Further off topic posts will be removed. Thanks for your cooperation!

Ladies, can we stop saying to keep the drama out of the thread, because nobody is talking about it anymore.. when you do this, you just bring it on the table again.

Let's talk makeup now, please?

(I hope my english wasn't too bad, sometimes I say funny things without knowing it)

Audrey, I ask what got u back into MU? U've got my curiosity peeked b/c it says were a once cured beauty addict. I got out for the cycle for a while

It's nice to hear a busy mom doing something for herself more than once in a while! Thanks for sharing ur story. It seems like you've got some good self control but it's also fun to splurge when necessary, a little retail therapy. There's just something about finding a beautiful new LS, ES, EL to make ur day just a little brighter! Enjoy ur new goods...especially an, I mean the Orgasm! This has been on my list since falling for NARS!

I'm having lots of fun with my new toys makeup. I may not have purple punky hair anymore (so 80s), but you're never too old for the princess inside to demand to be heard.

LOL

Re the Mom thing: If I can save like crazy for upcoming university tuition, indulge a young skater in a ridiculously expensive sport, then surely I can buy myself some d**m makeup that I can finally afford without having to feel guilty about it, right?!

Yeah :) I'm just happy that my RR ls isn't OOS :)
Haha did you use the Sailor code for your 2nd order, too? I placed 3 orders and my last order came last night, but my other two aren't coming until Wednesday. I just got the blushes, but I'm itching to get my lip products!

WOAH!! You are brave! I think straight Black Lipstick is where I would have to draw the line! LOL
Even still... I'll definitely check it out on you! You'll probably look awesome!! Jealous again....
Yep ! I'll let you know when the pictures are up on my blog. I'm done with the look... I'm just sitting here thinking about if it will clash against my blonde hair in the pictures ! LOL ^___^

I feel the same way pretty much. If you felt like Early Morning was too strong or hard to apply just right, FF would be much simpler to use. I bet it'd be a bit longer lasting on the skin than EM too, although those Naturally MBs last so well compared to other MBs.

The only thing is, FF has a subtle gold shimmer, like extremely fine milled gold sparkles - it's more than just a straight satin sheen. That's why I didn't get it, personally - I don't do too well with true gold highlights on my cheeks, and glittery finishes only work on me when my skin is at its very best, since I'm not a young whippersnapper anymore.

Edit: Oh, lemme just say again how in love I still am with Early Morning, even if it is off topic in the Hey Sailor! thread!

I didn't try it yet, I'm waiting for my new nyx pencils. I may try it tomorrow when I go home.

I guess my stash is big enough to where I can find pretty suitable dupes for most everything in the collection. May still pick up the red lipstick because, well, yes of COURSE I need a 20th red lipstick

Thanks for your help.
I know you didn't ask me, but I figured I'd help :) I'm NW20 and have lots of redness, but FF works for me. It's like a darkened peachy pink. Almost coral, but definitely more peach to it (when on my skin at least). There is a gold-ish sheen that is beautiful as well. Temptalia was right when she compared it to theBalm's Frat boy. They aren't exact dupes by any means, but seeing as it's by far my favorite everyday blush I knew I needed FF.

Don't be worried about the "red" of the blush making it look too harsh on you. I think the redness in my cheeks makes the blush appear more peachy for some reason. Besides the golden sheen it'll give to your cheeks, it should look very natural on you :) Hope that helped a bit.

I'm not sure if this has been posted already but I just noticed that Nordstrom has the Body Oils up, hopefully that means the rest of the collection will be coming soon! I haven't hauled anything yet because I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I want, but I know I need to get my hands on SLV and RR.
I went to the MAC counter at Nordstrom today and they didn't have the collection out on display.
I asked one of the SAs and she had the whole collection by the "stock area"
The official launch date is May 24, but you can buy it at the MAC counters at Nordstrom now.

Hopefully, it'll be up on Nordstrom.com by Monday!

Have they ever stopped and thought that you were buying it for friends & family as gifts? You could also be a freelance makeup artist and need all that makeup for work. If not, you could just be a hard core makeup junkie and a collector. Also, you could be a tourist and wanted to stock up since CCOs are not available in other countries.

Vera SA is still available on MAC's website... You being cooler, that one may work lovely on you. Ask fair skins how they like that one? Pinkdollface?
Hope you like SLV... I REALLY love it!!! And I don't have any straight orange lippies...
I hope everything works out for the best with your health honey... I know people tip toe around uncomfortable things like this... But my thoughts and prayers are with you! Let us know how you are! And I would happily volunteer my personal shopping servies!
I'm sure this has been answered already, but I am NC10 and I use both Vera powders as blushes very successfully and I LOVE them :)
