MAC - Jeanius Discussion

The lip products look like they belong in the Felines collection for real. I don't have anything on my list except for Bike Blue and it's because I don't have a polish like it and it's way cheaper than Temptalia's dupes for this one and I'm a polish junkie so that's that. Sad this collection doesn't look awesome to me. :(

Seriously, how many times is MAC going to release a Deep Truth, or Deep Truth sister or cousin (dupe)??? With DS companies like Hard Candy, Wet and Wild and Milani featuring the same color this spring, I'm expecting a bit more from MAC. High fashion MU usually set the trends for others to follow.

I think the eyeshadows in this collection are in #fail territory. Its been done. This whole collection looks like I have seen it before. I often wonder what it would be like if MAC took a breather and offered 5 or 10 less collections a year. It would give people time to forget about seeing similar colors over and over for one. They can't reinvent the wheel all the time, but if they take breaks every now and then, it would not seem so redundant.
Holler! #epicfail on the e/s. :(

I just asked Christine from Temptalia if Riveting Rose is a Cunning from Fab Felines dupe. They look very similar and are both frosts. Will report back with her answer.

RR looks different to me. Cunning is more brown on my monitor with RR being more berry/purple.

I thought about getting RR, but now really don't want anything from this collection. (I think I just heard my wallet go "WOOO HOOOOO!".)

Same here! I wanted the 'Frayed' polish but all that streaking made me say, "Hale naw!"

More money saved for 'Surf Baby'.

More swatches are up in the Swatches thread. :)

I agree that Frayed is disappointing. It goes on very pretty and shiny, but then dries to an un-flattering matte finish. But Biker Blue is *gorgeous*. I'm not a huge nail polish person, but I'm still very please with how pretty it is.

The lipsticks/lipglasses are fairly low-key. Pretty but nothing super unique.

For the blushes, Overdyed is a common magenta color. Pink Cult is a neat neutral pink color.

I do like the eye shadows--they're good quality and pigmented. But, again, nothing super unique, except for Stovepipe Black, which is an interesting grey/black color. Diva in Distress could have been more interesting if there were a stronger sky-blue undertone, but it comes off like a light grey and not as sky-blue as it is in the pan.

I love the colour of Riveting Rose, but if it's that dark on Christine, then I'm sure it will be too dark on me :( Indigo Pink is still on my list, though. Funny how it looks so different on her than it does in the other swatches I've seen. Pink Cult has joined my 'wants' list after seeing her swatches, too.

I love Riveting Rose, but I agree I'm afraid it will be way too dark. I was thinking of buying it and using a brush to apply it really lightly, kinda like a stain. I also love Pink Cult blush and I think Painted On would look pretty on top of a Riveting Rose stained look. I've stayed away from the past few collections so I think I'll go for a lipglass, lipstick, polish and blush in this one. Avoiding the shadows!

I love the look of Pink Cult blush! That's the only thing that interests me in this collection. Riveting Rose looks pretty, but I don't think I would wear it.

Well, I actually ended up getting a little more than I thought I would (and only one of the items I thought I would). I think perhaps because my expectations were so low for this collection, there were some pleasant surprises. Here's a few impressions:

Eye shadows:

Diva in Distress actually looked quite bluish to me. Kind of like a more blue version of filament. The texture is very lustre-like and completely different from the others. White Jeanius is a lot like white frost and a little flaky (not too bad). Motorhead is, as everyone has said, a Deep Truth clone. Stovepipe Black- "black with copper pearl"- is neither black nor coppery. It's actually a deep metallic grey, similar in texture to Silver Ring, but a lot darker.
Hauled- Stovepipe black

Lipglass:

Generally left me pretty cold. I think all of them have dupes either in the regular line, or can be duped with a little playing around. Docile was just released last fall with Fabulous Felines, but if you don't have it and don't have a comparable pink gloss (or really like light pink glosses), it's the nicest of the three.

Lipsticks:

These were actually better than I thought they'd be. Pretty Please is a permanent item, but the two new colours are more interesting than they seemed. Riveting Rose is a deep pinky-purple with a more blue-purple sheen. I think Temptalia compared it to Hang-Up, but I find Hang-Up a lot warmer and redder. It reminded me more of Odyssey, but RR is prettier and has more depth. The real surprise for me was Acid Washed. The finish is described as a glaze, but I find it very sparkly compared to other glazes (even compared to Pervette, which has a sparkle/ sheen). It has a very light neutral base, which tends to change depending on what's behind it (light skin, dark skin, pigmented lips, light coloured lips, etc.) and a lot of sparkle that looks white, gold and pink. About the closest comp I could think of for it would be Smash Hit from the DigiDazzle collection last year. (I don't have Smash Hit, but I do have Liquid Lurex and they looked reasonably similar swatched on my hand.)
Hauled: Riveting Rose and Acid Washed

Blushes:
Did an about face on these. I figured that Overdyed would be an automatic skip for me, since I have Her Blooming Cheek and Azalea, but Overdyed is more muted and considerably cooler-toned than either of those. I like the way it looks on me. I was sure I was going to get Pink Cult, but in the end, I just wasn't wowed. It's a very pretty colour and I think a lot of people with light to medium skin should be able to wear it. It's neutral in tone and pretty natural, but it just seemed like I have other natural blushes that I like more. I think that part of my underwhelmed response was that I went to see the Cremeblend blushes, where there are several pretty, natural looking shades.
Hauled: Overdyed

Nail Polishes:
From the beginning, I was pretty sure I'd get these, but I passed. I may decide to go back for the deep blue one, but I just felt a bit fatigued (!) and unmotivated to get more.

Overall... I like what I bought. there are some nice, distinctive colours, but the whole thing just feels kind of uninspired.

Tried to snap some comparative photos, but in the artificial light, I wasn't happy with how they turned out.

Thanks for the review katred! Looks like its Docile l/g and Riveting Rose l/s for me. Small haul, thank goodness!

RR l/s is stunnnniiinngggg.

I wasnt even interested in RR but after seeing the purple sheen in it made me drool! I'll def be good with vampy shades for a while after this since I dont wear them too often.

Acid Washed l/s is pretty, but in temptalias swatches it looks close to Bubbles l/s to me, which I already have. Thanks Katred, I have Liquid Lurex so I dont feel too bad about passing on it. Pretty Please is a kind of color I wear often, but its perm so I can wait on that. BB polish is pretty but I'm sure there is a dupe and I have the blue Orly Cosmic FX polish and its like a lighter version of BB. Blushes are a pass since I'm getting two from QC.

Thank goodness for the tiny haul, I get to use the money for QC! YAYYYYY
