Here is an article I found, courtesy of "Racked". Nasty Gal head honcho Sophia Amoruso After news broke that Nasty Gal laid off over 20 employees last week, we looked into the company's Glassdoor reviews to find that many people did not, in fact, enjoy their time working with any of the brand's GirlBosses. After we posted some of the most scathing reviews, anonymous tips started to pour in from alleged past employees who shared the same sentiments. Here's a sampling of what came through the tip line: The layoffs were closer to 30 people and included employees that helped build the brand from the earliest days. Layoffs also included two pregnant women, just to demonstrate the company's class. They hope to break even if they are lucky this year but sales are down SIGNIFICANTLY from last year so doesn't seem likely. This isn't just about restructuring, layoffs are because the business is suffering. They even are going to have to sublet out a portion of their huge new office space because it was such a financial waste. Another tipper gave a more specific number of people laid off, although there are some discrepancies over the number of pregnant women involved: There were a total of 27 people laid off at Nasty Gal last Thursday, August 28, 2014. Nasty Gal let go of 3 pregnant women. One of them is 8 months pregnant and they made her come to the office to let her go. Sophia's friends are still there. Although we don't know what they do or who they report to. But they are still getting paid. One was even promoted to Social Media Manager. The other one was an Intern and now they created a job called "Trend Forecaster." Having worked at Nasty Gal, I think there's a goal behind these posts. 1) They pinpoint the same issue (Executive Management) and former employees hope that the CEO wakes up and fires them all since nothing is changing, their salaries are too high and everyone has confirmed that they're NOT EFFECTIVE. 2) Former employees who spent years of discomfort, fear of being let go and who were constantly disrespected, want to warn future applicants of what type of horrid environment they could be joining. To CEO, I say quit "cleaning house" by letting go of lower level workers and get rid of those useless execs you thought were awesome but actually ended up just being a bunch of self-serving opportunists. · Nasty Gal Employees Say Sophia Amoruso's a Bad GirlBoss [Racked] · Nasty Gal Lays Off Tech and PR Staffers [Racked]
Yeah I don't care if there are purple duochrome lipsticks, I won't support a collaboration with this company. I am going to stay subbed just to see what happens.

I agree. Laying off pregnant women takes them to a whole new bottom-feeder level. :nono: Sophia Amoruso should be ashamed of herself ... but sadly, she's probably not!

I just remembered this collection & was wondering what was going on. I had never heard of Nasty Girl before this. I, for one, am glad I never supported them.

I agree. I'm not supporting this chick and putting one red cent in her pocket, that's for sure. Laying off pregnant woman was the final nail in her coffin for me. :smash: :werd:

I have to believe what Erine says about her friend's store getting these. It's possible the lipsticks would sell out in a day anyway so MAC could be in and out of this without being affected by the controversy. Too bad about NG, I just placed an order, got free shipping, my items got to me very fast, and were excellent quality. Hard to resist, I still have items in my Tote I want to buy today, it being payday. I certainly wouldn't like to see MAC brought down by this. But I was excited to see the lipsticks lol

I wasn't really interested in this collection but I have to say I am super impressed by all of you taking a stand against Nasty Gal.

I feel like the internet is really helping us as consumers. My boycott list has doubled in the last 18 months and though sometimes I miss the products it is always worth it to try and send a message about how to treat people.

:nope: I'll be skipping this. There'll be many more reds and purples and burgundy in future MAC releases I'm sure, so no need to put hard earned money in an undeserving pocket. I'm out :getyou:

I'm sure MAC will be fine. They managed to get past the Rodarte collection.

Honestly, Nasty Gal laying off people is the least of social problems I would worry about.
I know MAC is technically made in Canada, but I'm sure they get their plastic shells from China.
Everyone with an iPhone or macbook, apple has some of the worst treated factory workers.
Basically what I'm saying is take a stand if you want, but there are bigger things to protest than a company needing to make cuts because of financial struggles

@ramarose I 100% agree with you. People are still going to buy the clothes. And that's all the company cares about. Working conditions are the least of their concern until it gets out. I.E. Alexander Wang when a few years ago got hit with a lawsuit about bad working conditions in New York. Yes, they got bad press for a week. But everyone forgot and the company still made sales and a profit and their image none the worse. Flip that to JP Morgan and the London Whale incident, people still use that bank, I use that bank. At the end of the day its all about the bottom line. The media always picks up a new story to make people forget.
