MAC - Peacocky discussion

Yay! Quoting works again :)

Yes, Peek-at-You failed big time for me. I don't know what skin tone I am for MAC but I'm pretty pale. Peek-at-You didn't even show up on me at all. So sad! :(

The tester for Odalisque at my Mac worked wonderfully for me. It was smooth and the color payoff was great. Maybe it is the testers because Unflappable was one that I was looking forward to but I hardly got anything when I swatched it. I'm thankful Tweet Me and Noir Plum worked. So in love with them!

It might have been the tester because for me, Unflappable was one of the best of the bunch along with Spectacle of Yourself ...the most underwhelming peek at you...and Odalisque, when I swatched it, didn't seem as pigmented/creamy either.

THANK you summerblue! And I have the same question as IHEartMakeup.
where have you gotten them? looked at the MUFE site, but what I am seeing is just their product catalog, with the telling you that you can purchase MUFE products at Sephora.
(this is probably an obvious question, to which I know the answer, but I AM on glass number 2)

And I have the same probs as you with the posting. It's beyond aggravating.

Edit:

oops, I see you already answered.
Product #: http://www.makeupforever.com/products/empty-magneted-palette.html

I don't see any NY # I called before to order them as they are not sold in my Sephora stores. Anyway, my suggestion is to call the following NY store for a contact to order:

8 E 12th St
(between 5th Ave & University Pl)
New York, NY 10003
Neighborhoods: Union Square, Greenwich Village
(212) 941-9337

These are the 1st large-sized MAC e/s I have so I haven't depotted them yet. I have no problem depotting blushes so I assume that I won't have any problem with these as long as I go slow & don't force it. I'll depot them over the weekend.
For me, it's just the part where I have to flip the pan out of the case with an xacto knife - that's when my blushes can crack. Once it's out, I can heat it up with no problem of course. Let me know how it goes!

marajode, just sent the following email to MUFE:

"Hi! Sometime during this past year, I ordered your empty magneted palettes, Ref : 46032, which are not sold in Sephora here on Long Island, NY. However, I can't locate the NY # on your website to order more. Can you please provide me with a phone #. Thank you."

Says I'll get a reply in 1 or 2 business days. Will post back when I do. :)

Yikes, took me like 5x to try to post this as it thinks my reply is empty!

Yes, it might have been the tester. Unflappable was a gorgeous, complex color but I just couldn't see myself using it enough... That was probably why it didn't end up being a purchase (texture wasn't really much of a concern).

It might have been the tester because for me, Unflappable was one of the best of the bunch along with Spectacle of Yourself ...the most underwhelming peek at you...and Odalisque, when I swatched it, didn't seem as pigmented/creamy either.

Sorry about that, my whole post disappeared when I submitted. Anyway, try cutting a large-size case in more than one place to truly free up the pan. If you feel any resistance, use enkore's method & put alcohol on your knife (I use a pairing knife; it's larger than an exacto & slide it under the pan to disperse it, then, wait a minute for the alcohol to dissolve the glue.

Well, I finally got to check out the collection today. I ended up with more lippies than I'd planned, but fewer of the shadows. I did love the shadow texture, but the colours just weren't distinct enough from what I already had to warrant a purchase... The one I thought about a long time but didn't get was Paparaz-she. The colour is stunning and highly pigmented. I just ended up deciding I could do without.

The lippies were a love at first try for me. I applied them and as soon as they settled on my lips, they felt amazing. I really would compare them to the Chanel Rouge Lacques, which are a little more opaque but far more expensive. I tried on a bunch and ended up getting four. The only one that I passed on that surprised me was Flaunting It. I guess it really didn't seem much different from my natural lip colour- maybe a bit cooler, but that's it.

Final haul:

Love Peck- I actually don't find it looks that much like Hang Up. It's pinker and noticeably lighter on my lips. Just thrilling.
Peacocky- It was a little less opaque than I wanted, but it's freaking blue, I always knew I'd get it. The Great Enabler and the MA decided it would look good with purple, so I tried Violetta lightly over it and it was SICK. I highly recommend the combo.
Scandelicious- I never planned on getting this one, but The Great Enabler talked me into it. He loves bright pinks and fuschias (on me) and this was basically his favourite.
Temper Tantra- Gorgeous colour! More toned-down than the others I got, but I put it on and everyone had a great reaction. Really rich and deep colour, a nice balance between rose and brown.

Dalliance- Beautiful and highly pigmented. Always knew I wanted this one.
Mating Call- I went back and forth on this one, but I finally decided to go for it. It's a beautiful colour, it's just that I have so damn many purples. I'd place it between Beautiful Iris and Stars & Rockets. I saw they had a Push the Edge pigment there, so I almost got that instead, but it turned out they only had it in a set with things I didn't really want, so I got Mating Call. (The MA did give me a sample of PTE.)

I'm pretty happy with my haul. I was hoping to be a little more blown away by the shadows, but I found that there wasn't enough difference with things I've already collected. They are still amazing to play with and I hope Mac considers bringing the formula back the way they have with Starflash. I'd say the same for the lippies, which are just a bit more lipstick-like than the DtW glosses. This is a formula that deserves to have a few return visits.

Meryl, btw, when I cut any size case, I actually use a small to medium pair of cutting/wire pliers. As I said, I will cut a blush or a larger-sized outer case in more than one spot on both the inside & outside case if necessary. If after heating the inner case, there's a ton of glue, I will put alcohol on the knife blade & swish it around. I think a pairing knife is better than an exacto as it has more surface area. If I get cracking it's not from removing the outside case, but it's when I force the pan out of the inner holder without taking the extra alcohol or reheating step to really loosen the glue. I get impatient & forget to take it slow & easy.

I am soooooo gonna do that! I had given it a thought. I just took pictures with all my lippies and I am picking some out to post in the swatch thread. The pic of me wearing Peacocky will probably scare some people off, but I love it. I put it on solo. It's less jarring in person, though. I plan on buying 2 more and the combinations that can be done with this are endless.

Thursdaynxt19 --- OMG Tweet Me is amazing! It's probably the best of the bunch. I swatched it next to Melon pigment and even though Melon is beautiful in its own way, Tweet Me is really special. It's perfect for spring and summer. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one hehe. Chanel still has their spring collection out at my mall and I swatched their Ombres Perlees palette after going to MAC. This palette was everything I was hoping the Peacocky eyeshadows to be. Super creamy and amazing color payoff but it's $65 :/
luna, I think it should be quality over quantity. You should only buy what you love regardless of the mfr. If Tweet Me is all you loved from this collection, then, that's all you should buy. And if you love the Chanel, then, buy it. Just don't spend your money on anything you don't love. Personally, I'd rather have less items that I love then more that I really could have lived w/o. Unfortunatley, I've wasted too much money on mu I could have lived w/o. :(

Violetta OVER it? Not under? Sorry I'm weird and have problem picturing solid over liquid...but then again, Peacocky should apply light enough that that should work...okay I'm so trying this when I get home!

This was SO helpful! Thank you!!!

That is a very good question- believe it or not, the only brush I could find is the LAST brush I would have picked with these, but I think it was the best one. 242- the one I use for FL and other cream eyeshadows.
I have not used the regular brushes with them yet- they worked so beautifully with the 242 I never gave a thought to trying the other ones in my testing.

I will say this- you HAVE to use a base with these. They are powdery and there is fallout from them too- so I would probably use the 242 mostly with them to control fallout more. Blendability is amazing.

I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance because it has some of the best tooth of any of the primers (tooth meaning surface texture that attracts the most texture and pigment of the shadow). Without base, it was nearly useless.

Forgot to mention that.
