MAC Pret a Papier Discussion

Hi all,

Just got back from checking out the collection as well.

I walked away with: Made to Order l/s (B2M), Fold & Tuck l/g (B2M), and Coral Crepe.

Not sure if anyone else felt this way about Instant Chic but it sounds like I'm in the minority.

I wanted to want it, I wanted to like it, but then I was really unsure when I was there -- but then didn't want it to sell out and regret not getting it. However, in the end, I just didn't want to hand over the money for it.

I'm NC40 and it is pretty sheer and you do need to pile it on to get the color to show up. I actually do really like sheer tone texture in general, but I just wasn't feeling it with this one. It seemed too muted, too toned done, and just not too exciting on the hand. I tried it on the face and it doesn't look that different on me than Joyous (lightly applied) or Ripe Peach. I think it would be nice to just not worry about overapplying Instant Chic but I'm still not sold on whether I need that if I have Joyous and Ripe Peach.

I guess I will just think about it today and if I want it I'll order it online later tonight or tomorrow. All this talk about it on here makes me not want to miss out though!

As for the other stuff:
I wasn't shopping for eyeshadows, so I didn't look at them too much. Nothing jumped out at me.

Coral Crepe is not as bright as I thought it would be when looking at Temptalia's pictures. I think I'm about her skin tone but it looks so much brighter on her. I'm into coral these days so I picked this up to wear with Hot Hot Hot and the other stuff from SCF collection. Perfect for summer!

Didn't like Made to Order or Fold & Tuck when on the hand, but when I tried them on together, it was perfect. Loved these alot! Different from Fresh Salmon too.

Wasn't that impressed with the Chromagraphic Pencils because they were alot softer than I thought they'd be -- they kinda just smooshed into my hand when I tried it there so I didn't even both with it on the waterline.

Dressmaker Dressmaker was too sheer for my liking.

Pret-a-papier lipglass was very pretty -- just not a standout. It's a bit more red/purple/berry than Liquour.

Garb didn't show up at all on my hand. It was the same color as me! So, I passed on this.

I have and love Light over Dark! It seems the perfect little compact bronze color and highlighter for summer. If you missed out on it last time, you should get this if you like to travel with your makeup.

What to do about Instant Chic...what to do...

Hope that helps.

I definitely don't like the way those Chromographic pencils look in the Temptalia FOTD up close. From a distance it's just ok. Not going to buy that. I've decided to just pick up Pret-A-Papier tomorrow and I will do my best not to buy Kraft. First, because I'm not crazy for Amplified lipsticks and second because it's similar enough to Touch, which I already have.

I hauled Fold and Tuck lipglass, Gazette Grey and Tissueweight eyeshadows, and Instant Chic blush! Can't wait to try these out!

So, I was determined to make Coral Crepe work for me this morning. I put on a really thin layer of Too Faced Shadow Insurance and then took the 217 to work CC on the lid. I really liked the result and it stayed all day. I really like the color. It shows up awesomely in photos especially. One of these days I'll try it without a primer and see how it goes.

Okay I went by the counter, but not at my usual one. I went to the other side of town bc they have a Nordies there and I also wanted to check out the mascara.

Can you believe I didn't come back with anything? lol

I swatched everything on my hand and some things were pretty, some were not, and others weren't a necessary buy for me.

I wasn't into the lippies, they either seem too coral or too orange or too brown for me. PASS.
But if I had to choose one? Dreamaker, Dreamaker was very subtle and stunning. I would buy this and I think its better than Ever Hip by far.

The Nail Lacquers were not my thing. I don't like bright disco ball nails or poopy colors. PASS.

Instant Chic - OMFG can we say ASHY? Yuck! I was sooo disappointed when I swatched this on my hand!

Granted, my hand is darker than my face but when I tried it on my cheek, it was the same deal. I wanted to love it so much since everyone is loving it but it didn't do anything for me. I love Ripe Peach and RP looks soooo much better than this. I honestly think this would look better on fairer girls PASS.

Garb - gorgeous! Its the nude blush I have been looking for! I can't believe there is no hype for this? Or maybe not yet. lol I will probably go back next week and get this. I doubt it will be gone by then. But this is such a pretty blush, its a light nude-peachy blush. I may go back just for this!

Chromagraphic pencils, hmmm these were interesting. I didn't test these on my eyes bc I never test eye pencils at counters, EVER. I did swatch them on my hand though. They look like concealer pencils? I may give it a try and take one home with me next week. We'll see.

Coral Crepe, not a huge disappointment but I was hoping for more of a non shimmery coral color so I could pack on my non shimmery coral shadows. :\ It looked too bright on my hand swatch. I even said this before, its not a p/p that I would wear often so this indeed will be a PASS for me.

Light Over Dark, I had this one when it first came out but sold it. I didn't feel it this time around either. Its very pretty though but it just looks too orange for my skin tone.

All the shadows are gorgeous! But I may just go back for Bamboo, Memorabilia, & Gazette Grey (omfg ist sooooooooo pretty!)

For reference: I am NC30.

So right now, I may go back next week for:

Memorabilia
Bamboo
Gazette Grey
Chromagraphic Pencil
Garb

Notable was the one that I do regret not getting.

No lip glosses or sticks for me. Nothing really works for me.
I settled on gazette grey, cut to fit, and the coral crepe paint pot. when it was time to purchase memorabilia, i decided not too. I have lots of purples already that would work with either e/s colors i purchased. i did get scrumptious olive, which i read may be a good color with gazette grey. after seeing it today, i thought, you know what, this will work. scrumptious olive is such a good color to have. i also got the dirty grease paint which will look good with gazette grey. i can't wait to play.

I'm curious about dressmaker, dressmaker. Does see sheer really look similar?

Its similar but not a dupe. I swatched both at the counter, SS is just a tad darker.

Haha you're welcome! IC is indeed pretty but I think it just one of those blushes that only suits certain skin tones TBVH. In this case, it looks beautiful on fair complexions.

thanks! Dressmaker a bit darker sounds really nice actually, I'll have to look at it next time I'm at the counter.

I have decided against Instant Chic. I'm not going to get it since I have Ripe Peach Blush Ombre. I only ordered Coral Crepe p/p online today and will not get anything else until To The Beach collection.

I went to check out the collection today, and gosh it was not my thing

From pics I had seen, I thought for sure I was going to walk out with "Instant Chic" blush but it was not different enough from other blushes I have to make me 'need it'. No worries though, I headed over to Sephora and bought Illamasqua's "Unrequited" blush which is exactly what I hoped for & thought "Instant chic" was going to be.

Has anyone picked up archetype lipstick? Haven't heard anything about this one.

I picked up Instant Chic today. I was impressed how it swatched but it is sheer so it may not show up on darker skintones.

DO IT!!!! DO IT NOW!!!!!

I went from only wanting the Coral p/p to now lemming over 2 blushes and a lipstick in addition to the p/p. However my usual routine with collections is to want a lot and then one I get swatching usually walking away with 1 thing. I'm heading to the Pro store tomorrow so I will get my swatches done then. Something tells me I will only end up with my original want of just the paint pot.

I ended up skipping this collection as well. I saw it today at a cosmetics event at the Bay. I had just finished hauling Nars and Chanel too and that might be why I didn't want to get anything from Pret-a-Papier, lol!

Anyway, this collection is just too subtle my taste. I do like subtle sometimes, but not this one I guess. The lippies were all too sheer for me except for the brown one and I know by trying 10xxx times before that brown l/s does not look good on me. Garb blush was pretty orange on me and Instant Chic was cute but not overly exciting. I did like the coral paint pot but honestly I hardly ever wear corals or oranges on my eyes so I passed that too.

The nude pencils are an interesting concept and I would get one if I didn't already have Stila Topaz k/l. Topaz lasts on my waterline 7-8 hours so I'm set.

So I left the counter with Boldly Bare l/l from Too Fabulous. I loved the other three lip liners I got from that collex (Trimmed in Pink, In Synch and Naked) and I wanted to add a coral one to the mix.
