Could the problem be that my foundation is too dry?

I don't think so. Some people have more pronounced nasolabial folds. I'm not sure how old you are, but a liquid facelift might help to smooth out that area - at least temporarily. But in the long run, nasolabial folds will come back and get deeper, and thus any type of powder of foundation will just accumulate in it and cake up.

In theatrical make up, the easiest way to look older is to darken the nasolabial folds and wear a darker lipstick - doing this instantly adds 10 - 15 years to your face (try it out with a brown eyeliner - it's scary). For beauty make up, you really want to create the reverse effect: If you want the folds to be less noticeable, use a highlighter (sparingly!) in the folds and stay away from bright and/or dark lip colors that draw attention to this area.

I hope this helps.

I'm 21 and my nasolabial folds don't show much when i don't wear foundation. When i do wear foundation they don't look deeper, but it's more like the foundation sits in the line that's created when i smile.

There is a product called line filler, I think part of the MAC Prep and Prime line that is said to be good for these type of lines according to Paula G. (the cosmetics cop.) It is probably worth a try, even to call as ask CS at MAC about it. If it didn't work, you could always return it.

Maybe try the Touch Eclat to see if it makes a difference and go sparingly with foundation in that area.

I'm afraid the touch eclat would sink in the lines more, because it's more watery if that makes sense. Thanks for your help:) I'm going to try less foundation and see if it helps. If not i might try the prep + prime line filler.

So the Skin Smoother compact is supposed to go under the foundation??? For some reason I keep forgetting about it and only seem to remember it after I've applied my foundation. Maybe I need to start storing it with the Moisture Infusion and I won't forget.

I have been using mine under my foundation but when I went to the counter I had foundation on and the MA put it on on top. It worked well that way too.

when i bought mine the MA said to use it under foundation but she also said that at training the MA showing it to everyone used it ontop of foundation saying that it was a great way of reviving make up during the day when it starts looking cakey. I like to mix it with cream blushers to make them easier to apply and more blendable

I really wanted to love the skin smoother, but I don't. While it does make my skin look better, I've broken out every single time I've used it. There's nothing different w/ my diet or makeup/skin routine (aside from the Tres Cheek blushes, but I was able to wear those even while I was taking a break from the skin smoother), so I'm pretty sure it's the compact

Has anyone else had problems using the compact?

I finally actually bought the skin smoother, after I had my makeup done at an event last weekend by one of the regional trainers. He gave me a good application of the serum (which I already think is great) and mineralize moisturizer, then lightly applied the skin smoother down the center of my face, focusing on the area of the cheeks between nose and mouth (where my pores are most noticeable and there are some lines trying to bust out). Then he did a very light application of Matchmaster in my usual shade, also down the center of the face from the forehead down, blending outwards.

It looked really beautiful - absolutely the least made up looking foundation look I've seen on my face, and it demolished my naso-labial folds, even with careful observation in a mirror. Very youthful looking. I still think it won't be for everyone's taste, and I wish it was the sort of thing you could use without foundation, but if you don't mind one more product on your face, the result is lovely - sort of bringing the look of a cream foundation to a liquid foundation, but with much more re-texturizing while not adding more coverage (which I personally don't need or care for). Also I didn't have any caking or settling of my foundation for the rest of the day, and it was very hot out, so that's a plus too!

Now that I have it, I'm going to play around with it more. It's not an absolute must-have, unless I can figure out a decent way to use it without needing foundation at all - if I can manage that, then I'd call it even more useful. If anything, photos will come out looking great using it, for sure, and it felt much more nourishing on my skin than the equivalent Clarins product does.

Liba, try to blend it out with the 130 brush. A little goes a very long way and I think it can work w/o adding a foundation.

I also agree on the nourishing aspect of the Skin Smoother, especially when used with the Moisture Infusion. For those with drier skin, it's a dream come true (at least until a new miracle product pops up).

I think the trickiest thing about the skin smoother is you can't really see the awesome results as you apply it - it takes a minute or two before it absorbs, fully sets up and starts working the magic. 'Could lead to using much more than you need. I'm definitely going to experiment.

Plus, I really look forward to using it mixed with the Tres Cheek blushes, for that cream blush effect. 'Just an unexpected side benefit. Oh technology!

I agree with you that it takes a minute until you see the effect. The product spreads out once it's on the skin. A swipe with the 191 is usually enough to cover forehead, nose, and cheeks, then I blend it with the 130. Too much SM is actually counterproductive (I'm glad it will last me quite a while).

I didn't like it for mixing it with blushes. I prefer the mixing medium (shine or matte) for that purpose, but Iove to layer the SM underneath.

I so love the Skin Smoother. I was running out on errands yesterday and used it with a bit of Skinfinish Natural on top.

I got the skin smoother and tried it once, but it felt heavy on my skin. I am thinking i used too much. I'll have to try it again using less, and maybe only on my cheeks and large pore areas. I also tried the Serum, but it broke me out pretty bad. I have been having a heck of a time lately with dry flaky areas on my cheeks and jaw, but my T zone is an oil slick. I think it is just stress bc of the wedding coming up in 5 weeks, but i have to get it calmed down before then. still trying to work out my wedding day makeup so it stays all day without sliding off my face.

Have you tried using two different face creams? I have an oily t-zone as well so i need to use a light cream, but in the winter my cheeks got dry so i used a hydrating cream just on my cheeks. That worked out quite nice for me.

You really only need a tiny amount of the SS. Give it another try. It photographs beautifully.

No, I have never tried that. I will try that. I have never had such combination skin before. I just turned 31, so maybe my skin is just changing from what it used to do. Thanks for the idea, i'll have to try that tonight!
