MAC - Prolongwear Discussion

..........let down.

First of all, my counter didn't have the concealer yet. No biggie. I can wait.

As for the lipsticks, the formulas were nice and applied really well....but I was a bit let down with the colors. They looked a lot more vibrant in photos. I swatched them on my hand, but only tried a few on my lips. Extended Play was very much a brick red which wasn't quite the killer sexy red I wanted. No biggie, I have plenty of killer reds. Goes and Goes is a surprisingly wearable purple, but again, I felt like I could just wear Violetta if I want something fun.

I would recommend these for those looking for day wear colors that last, but I never found anything particularly exciting.

I have only one mattene - Night Violet - and I love that l/s.

I picked up Goes and Goes and Love Forever.

LOVE THEM!

Right now I have on Magenta l/l with Love Forever l/s w/Girl About l/s layered over it (why didn't I ever fall in love with this color before???) and Gimme That! l/g.

Baby, I'm smoking over here!!!

So I snapped a quick picture for you guys today. The makeup went on at 8:00am. I took the picture at 4:30p. After working four hours and then falling sleep for two when I got home. (I love napping almost as much as I love MAC). When I woke up my makeup looked pretty good so I thought I'd share. The foundation and concealer are both matte and nice. (The shiny parts in the picture is from my flash) THe lip colour is the prolongwear creme in Prolong. Of course I got a red one in gratis, so its hard to really test the long wear claim. I am going to try one of the neutrals tomorrow though and see.

It all looks gorgeous on you Chrystia! I'd like to give Unlimited and/or Till Tomorrow, plus the concealer, a try.

I went to the store to play with the new concealers and I think I like them - BUT - too much comes out of the pump at one time! I would pump a tiny bit on my the back of my hand, wipe half away and dip my brush or finger in the rest and then wipe away the concealer that was left on my hand that I didn't use. What a waste.

I only need a small amount for my face... but I'm going to get to the bottom of the glass vile really fast. The ones in the store were just put out today and already the popular colours were more than half empty. - has anyone else found that to be the same? Is it worth it to get the vile knowing I will be wasting more than half?

I only have three (Rougette, Kirsch and Night Violet) and really wish I had gotten more. I cannot stand slimshines though, they're more like lip balms to me. And I have lip balms that last longer than slimshines. I gave all of mine away except for Swelter (LE - Cool Heat) that I wear during the summer.

If these new lippies are anything like Mattenes, I'll be all over them. I'll start with one and see how I like it though. But def not the one that's like Chatterbox. That lipstick looks aweful on me, like my skin looks sallow or something. I can rock Snob and Pink Nouveau anyway but not Chatterbox :/

Oh, did anyone compare these lipsticks to Nars's new pure matte lipsticks in terms of formula? Inquiring minds would love to know!

I am not sure
th_dunno.gif
how many mattenes I do have.. I know I have Flattery, Night Violet, Tango (coral/orange), 40's pink (great pink ), Rapturous Berry? and about 6 others which are in beiges and nudes. I rarely go by names of any products since most of my applied names change

when released on the market. But the texture of the mattenes was incredible.

Snob, Pink N. and Chatterbox are not mattenes... mattenes were the slim black tubes which looked like slimshines but were more matte/full coverage.
I also purchased the NARS pure matte in the Tashkent and Bangkok
drools.gif
-- these are incrediblely light textured and also have a long wearability.. but not the 12 acclaimed hours (who would want it to last that long anyway?).. but, I digress -- these prolongwear compared to the NARS are 1/2 the price and of an equal texture and they do not last 12 hours either... but what I find interesting is that compared to mattenes these deliver equally good colour as well as soft texture and wearability.. hth

...do you have to work quickly as someone was saying for the foundations? if not maybe you could put the extra in a little sample jar? or...is it possible to press the pump only lightly? (i do this with mufe hd blushes bcuz otherwise i get way too much)

I went to my MAC counter to check out the collection and I asked on of the MA's to do a match for me for the Pro Longwear foundation. The lady put some on the side of my face and she said Im an NW20! (I wear NC35 in Mineralize Satinfinish) I looked in the mirror after she applied it and I looked super washed out so I told her that I normally wear NC35 and she tried that one on and it looked fine so I got it. When I got home I noticed that it's a bit dark. Does this foundation run darker? Should I go and exchange it for an NC30? Otherwise the foundation itself is great! My skin looks really smooth and nice. This is definitely my favorite foundation from MAC.

on NARS vs. MAC Prolongwear: Nars is $ 25.00 each making it a lot more expensive than MAC Prolongwear @ 16.00 each... and the effect is quite similar

That's the problem - I had to go so slowly with the pump, I kind of hate taking the extra time to press as gently and carefully and lightly as I can and even then, too much comes out. Putting some in a sample jar is absolutely necessary, I think.

But the really bad news is - it emphasizes lines in my face that never show up unless I have too much foundation on. Which I never do because I hate seeing lines. This new concealer is way too thick. I guess I'l be staying with my tried and true Studio Finish SPF. I keep trying to replace it with a better concealer... but MAC just hasn't improved on that old one!

Aww shucks! You're so sweet, thank you. I actually combined Desert Rose blush with Blunt together.

As for the concealer pump. You should be able to do less than a full pump for sure. I've been stopping at the 1/4 way down part to get product out. A little does go a long way with the concealer, so a full pump is definitely going to be too much unless you are planning on using it as foundation. I would say give it a shot and see how you feel.

Such a beautiful color. It wasn't originally on my list, but I ended up snagging this one! I think it's going to be one of my fave go-to daytime lippies.

Extended Play was a darker than I expected, but still a really nice red. Prolong was on the opposite end- a little brighter than I would have liked. I thought Goes and Goes might look a little garish on me, but it was a nice violet-purple. Made to Last is a nice brown with a hint of plum, but I didn't care for the frost finish so I crossed it off my list. I ended up getting Till Tomorrow and Perpetual Flame. My honey was shocked to see that was all I came home with- along with Charred Mauve and Greengrease GPS! I had been searching everywhere for Greengrease. So psyched they had several left!

My MUA tested the both the concealer and foundation on me. I have a very sensitive under-eye area, so it was nice to see that the concealer didn't settle into any lines or make my eyes water, as some concealers tend to do. I normally use MUFE's No. 4 Concealer Palette. I'd have to say that Pro Longwear gave me the same amount of coverage but seemed a little creamier. The foundation was also surprisingly very light-weight, which I love, since I don't like to use it too often.

Note to all my WOC: The colors of this foundation is way off and that is an understatement. I like the finish but the coloring is definitely a MISS.... Beware try in store do not buy online.

I bought this online and when I first looked at the bottle it looked way too red or maybe even like it had some pink in it, I'm a nc50. I tried it on and at first I was unsure but I let it dry and it looked ok. But I did notice that a little goes a long way. I really liked the concealer I bought that in a nw40 it worked really well.

my past experience with mac foundations has been that the shades don't seem to be consistent across their different formulas...i think the only way i would buy one online would be if it were a repurchase or something i had already tested in store. actually, that goes for pretty much any brand of foundation/concealer!

I decided to pass on the foundation and concealer for now.

I picked up a Studio Stick foundation last week at a CCO and I'm thrilled. I really love this formula and was sad to see it go. I scooped out the last bit in the tube and put it in a plastic carry jar. I've been using it sparingly but now I have a new one!

Plus I need to use up all of my SF concealers before I purchase more.

I had to try the new lippies, though!

I like the way they feel and the long wear is nice too even though I don't mind touching up my l/s during the day.

I really wanted to purchase SFF this summer but NC45 (in the fluid) is too light and NC50 is waaayyy too dark. Yet the Studio Fix Stick and SFP are perfect for me in NC45!! I can wear NC45 or C7 in the SFP.

I got a sample of the Pro Longwear in NC45 and will give it a try tomorrow.
