Nars eyeshadow color payoff...

Does anyone else notice that NARS has a horrible color payoff on their shadows? The blushes are very pigmented, but I have horrible luck with the eyeshadows. Is that just me?

I have the same problem. I love their blushes and want some of their eyeshadows but I cant get them to show up like they do on the pan. Applying the cream colored shadows as a base under the powder shadows works though. I just dont want to have to buy two sets all the time

I don't find any problems with the color payoff, but I guess it depends on the particular color. However, I do find that the Nars eyeshadows don't seem to last all day on my eyelids even with a primer. They just kind of fade throughout the day....

Sometimes it depends on technique and application, but generally, I find most of their eyeshadows have good color payoff. They have colors that are meant to be more sheer or suited for fairer skin tones...and may not show up as well.

As with any other makeup line, some shadows are good some disappoint.

Give us an example of what you were disappointed in? Perhaps there is a way to make it work.

I have the Elsa duo, Night Sun, and a cyclade cream shadow. I have NC15 skin and use primer and just end up disappointed still. For as expensive as they are, you'd think they'd be more pigmented.

i think it depends on the shadow...it's hit or miss...and sometimes, i think it's meant to be that way.

like, i think cairo, AAE, elsa, and others are supposed to be "sheer"ish. rated r's green side too.

for me, it depends alot of the base i use and then also just the shadow..

Good Point, I have an AAE that I'm really happy with, but that's because I wanted something sheer. I guess I just never thought that it was supposed to look like that. lol

All the shadows I've ever used by NARS have had a great colour payoff.

Having said that, the colours I've used have been quite bright and not neutral colours.

For me, certain colours in NARS shadows have great payoff (such as Thunderball eyeshadow single, Ireland duo) and others not as pigmented (Bellissima duo comes to mind).

I agree that the shadows are not consistent in payoff like the blushes in the line.

I have so-so luck w/nars e/s. ITs helps to apply cream base for me but sometimes even that doesnt give it the staying power I would like. Florida is just too hot

Nars eyeshadows are kinda a hit or miss with me. I loved them at first then I notice that it didn't have the staying power but they seem easier to blend. And there's a lot of fall out from them. And the glitter in some of them is crazy. They do have some beautiful colors though....

Hahahaha!!! Yes, I've had the same problem. I had an e/s - Strada - and it looked awesome in the pan, horrible on my lid. I was so disgusted that I took it back the next day. Ugh!

I personally loveee all my nars e/s.. i love the texture and the color pay-off.. i do however have to agree that the staying power is not that great.
My fav. color is Sophia, it's my fav. everyday crease color, but by the end of the day it's pretty much gone.. even with a primer

I noted in the I dislike NARS thread that it seems like their single eye shadows have way better color payoff than the duos.

Definitely.

Although some of the duos are excellent pigmented too (Cordura, Habanera...)

Nars site has a video with tips on how to apply eyeshadows. Maybe that could help those who are having trouble...As mentioned in the "I dislike Nars" thread, if you are applying them the way you apply MAC or MUFE shadows, you will more than likely be disappointed.

I kind of noticed this too. I had the Nars Best palette on my wishlist forever and finally managed to swap for it. I've been loving MAC shadows lately and the Nars seemed to sorely lack in pigmentation in comparison. Like All About Eve barely showed up on my NC15 complexion. I was a little disappointed at first but I've come to appreciate them. I don't have to worry about misapplication as much. Moreover, I've tried several other shadows such as Portobello and Voyage. Those seem to have excellent pigmentation so I guess it really is hit or miss.

I bought my first NARS e/s last summer in Mekong and i have to say i am SOO disappointed. Its a glittery brown in the pan but goes on matte black. It fades only after a couple of hours even with a primer. I bloody hate the thing coz i just cant make it work.

Hm does anyone know how to make the Night series shadows show up darker and with glitter? Mine just always show up a muddy color without much of the glitter.
