NARS Satin Lip Pencils

Rikugien (or Golshan) looks coral pink on NARS official pictures. At least the swatch does, more than the cap on the pencil.

Hmm those hand swatches are slightly disappointing for me, the colours look quite dupey? Hot pink, berry/wine and nude are the dominant colours, I think there could have been more range to the colours - was hoping for an amazing coral pink and a good true red. Proper lip swatches cannot come fast enough though! I hope Temptalia reviews them all.

Honestly, I thought the same as you after seeing swatches. I don't understand why NARS doesn't like natural pink or coral lipsticks. They usually release red, brown or burgandy ones (esp, red ones), so most of them are quite similar to each other. I've used NARS items for many years and it's the only complaint about them. I hope they will choose various ranges of colors like their eyeshadows.



Anyway, I found some pics on the Google image, but I couldn't find an actual page on ebay. It's weird, but anyway..

I don't think Golshan is coral pink cuz it's categorized as satin lip "reds".
And Rikugien and Golshan have the exactly same caps on both links if you compare them.lol

Lol, I know, they're in the testing phase of putting the collection online. Anyway, I like the color of the swatch associated with Rikugien (whether it's Rikugien or another color).

The swatches on the hand are just a teaser, so yes let's just wait for proper lip swatches. Official promo pictures and color story will probably surface in early March.

And whenever NARS releases a new line of products (like the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils, or the Larger Than Life Eyeliners), they add some new colors with seasonal collections. So if one color you particularly like isn't part of the original release, maybe they'll add it in future seasonal collections?

At this point, I'm giving up making assumptions about the shades, because all the pictures are taken under different lights or with some kind of color-altering filter, or are just poor quality. One shade can look different depending on the pictures, while looking nearly identical to another shade in another picture. Add to that that shades are described differently from one blogger to the other...

I'll just wait for promotional pictures and good swatches.

Re - amazing coral pink from Nars - try Niagara! I have so many pink toned coral and I always go back to Niagara. For neutral pink, nothing beats Sex Machine matte velvet pencil. The only one of two lipsticks in my stash I actually ran out and repurchased (the other is MAC Snob).

I think Nars does make a lot of reds and vampy shades but they also have a good variety of other shades They don't have to always release and array of colours when their shades stay perm to the line unlike some other brands (cough cough MAC).

Now I can guess the difference between Yu and JDP cuz I have an eye for colors.
Yu looks similar to Schiap wherea JDP is close to Cartharge. (which means JDP is redder and slightly darker than Yu.)

I do too have an eye for colors (I think, lol), but I'd rather use it on good quality pictures taken with the same settings because with a few alterations on an image you can make any lip color look like another one entirely I don't want to compare a lip color taken in a dimly lit room with a yellow filter and another taken under bright spots with a blue hypersaturated filter. I agree about Niagara, great shade!

Btw, Does NARS change their plan (from releasing 13 pencils to 13)?
I mean there're only 12 lip pencils in this pic (besides, it looks like one of the promo pics cuz the image looks similar when gloss lip pencils came out 2 yrs ago) and also 12 swatches in the pic above.:S

The picture comes from a beauty journalist, so I guess it's not a promo picture but a setting for a press presentation. Either way, pretty, thanks for sharing!

There are 13 shade names, and 13 pencils appear in the promotional video, so I've always thought there would be 13 pencils.
I don't quite see why they would nix one shade so close to the release date. I hope they don't.

Btw, I don't like the fact that they raise the price of the lip pencil from $24 to $25.
It's not the only item they raise. Blushes and foundations too! :S
