A question for those with "disappearing" blushes: Do you use primers or a base? Or does it disappear despite a primer?

I find layering blushes essential if you want to make them last 12+ hours, i.e. either a CCB or a CBB followed by a powder blush.

Mac-Guy - I agree! I layer my blush as well. I use a ccb on top of liquid foundation, powder, then layer blush and it lasts all day. Here lately I've been using mbs 1st and then layering a regular blush over them. Mbs have that wonderful gleam and give my cheeks a boost.

Geez - I need a new Bronze ccb. I wish it wasn't PRO only!

Geez - that's sad. I work in an office full of women and none of them wear make up on a regular basis. One may wear lipstick when sales reps visit but they are just too scared of it.

Me? I go to work full-tilt and keep on rolling! They are amazed @ my color combinations and are shocked when I show up bare faced.

i often will shy away from bold lipsticks at work, but like to play around with colours on my eyes and cheeks...after all, if I'm at work most of the week, where else have i got to wear my makeup to???

i don't use primer or layer my blushes on a daily basis, but i only have disappearing problems with a couple of random blushes....

i think it also generally helps if the skin is well moisturized, so that it doesn't absorb makeup or create excess oil and sweat it off!!!

I wear bold lippies to work. Even Black Knight (I know, it's a cremesheen but it is one of the few cremesheen shades I can wear). Dark lip - neutral eye. Colorful eye - neutral lip.

I prime, put a little foundation on my cheeks, maybe setting powder and then add blush. I have to layer everything if I want it to last, I'm oily and that's how it works. I don't need blushes to last 12+ hours though.

I always use primer. Sometimes I'll layer it over a CCB but honestly it would be nice if MAC blushes would hold up longer without them. Obviously it's possible, since other brands work better for me. That's why I've got a lot of hope for the PLW blushes! I don't even need them to last 12 hours or even 8. Longer than 4-5 hours for a MAC blush would be great!

I am hoping to see longer wear with the PLW blushes but based on the ES and the bronzer from PLW, I don't think see any better lasting power. What does help for me (and the only thing that helps) is using a matte foundation underneath with as little slip as possible.

BTW, all you pale girls who like me thought you could not wear bronzer should give Nude on Board or Sun Dipped a try--they are great and minimal buffing I promise, I am NC20 for reference. (that is on a really tan day, I am more like NC17.5 year round, NC15 winter coat)

Is your skin more oily or dry? I am wondering if that makes a difference. My skin seems to eat them and I would describe myself as quite oily. I have not tried using a primer underneath but even with CCB underneath, it just doesn't prolong it for me. By the way, are you on team ALL THE BLUSHES this time?
What kind of primer? Cones? I am willing to do the extra step, if I knew what it was. Using the Casual color underneath helped a little, not much. I tried fix, maybe it lasted 6 hrs instead of 4, but not really. Lipstick going bye bye I can see cuz I eat and talk too much but I really don't touch my face, so I guess my ninja oil glands of doom lead to blush sliding off.

Lately, I've been using the Skin Smoother as a primer. If not, CCB's and CBB work well for me, too.

Layering would make a diff no doubt, however why bother with a Mac blush when a nars (for the same price in aus) will simply hold up?! Although I buy both because I'm a junkie lmao

I don't have too many NARS blushes, so I can't speak for them, but I'm thrilled to hear that they are holding up so well.

However, IMO, layering is key to make any MU product stay: blotting your lips and re-apply is a principle that most of us follow (and it's pretty simple to do); same goes for using a primer under e/s to avoid creasing; using two thin layers of foundation (over a primer) will make it hold up much better; finally, using a CCB or CBB under a blush or highlighter will not only make the color pop, but it just lasts much longer. Yes, it's always an extra step, but it only takes a few seconds to apply, but it will last considerably longer. As MU consists of molecules that build a sort of "net," it just helps the product to stay in place if you use different layers, especially if they have different textures as the "nets" will interlock. It's a common principle in stage MU, and it translates very well to everyday make up that has to stay up for a long day at the office.

If I to pick one blush and one highlighter to live with the rest of my life it would be NARS Lovejoy and NARS Albatross. That is all.

Thank goodness I will never have to make that choice...

I wear primer and foundation (often two thin layers) and apply blush before setting powder to give it a faintly damp surface to grip to. With MAC I need to apply more blush by lunch; I get almost a full day from NARS. I have a lot of MAC blushes that aren't getting much love due to their new cousins; I'm hoping when fall comes my makeup will lasr longer and I'll go back to using my MAC blush more often. I'm trying really hard to resist Dolce Vita but since I'm drinking wine in Florence at the mo, I think I'm destined to get it.

I certainly agree that layering with foundation does wonders. If I do a couple of very thin layers, rather than one medium one, it looks so much nicer! I do usually use a couple of passes of blush, but it really doesn't seem to help with the wear time. I'm thinking that the PLW will solve that problem for me. Nars blushes seem really tenacious. I haven't really tried enough shades in other formulas to make a judgment call. I have noticed that the one Lancome blush I have, which is a very pale colour, hangs on almost all day. Estee Lauder fades as fast or faster than Mac, although I haven't tried their new "Pure Colour" formula.

I think it helps to apply your blush immediately after applying your foundation so that they set together. I don't find fading blush a major problem when I wear Asian BB Creams, because there is a moistness to it that helps it adhere and last longer.

i haven't tried that before, but i will in the fall when i'm back to using foundation. thanks for the tip!

Very good to know....I have to get EI as soon as the collection is released then because I think that it is a pretty highlighter!
I have been using Carefree a lot since I got it and I hope that EI is similar but without the golden shimmer.
