Post about your 'makeup past'

Yes ladies..you're all very good at makeup now and produce beautifull FOTDs but bring back all those horrible memories about the embrassing or just plain nasty makeup that you used to do way back (unless ofcourse you've always been perfect). Maybe you used a terrible product or did makeup like a drag queen (if it was unintentional ofcourse!) Photos would be great!

I'll start off..

When i was about 14 i wasn't very savvy about makeup and found anything over £5 expensive so once i picked up a concealer in the sale at Superdrug which was pinky peach in colour (i am an NC43!!) and used it for spots and then for some reason i used it all over (thankfully lightly though) as a sort of foundation...i'm just glad i can't remember how i looked..

Also i used to use wear very strong lip colours, which with my colouring i can pull off but wearing them everyday and only wearing strong lip colours which wern't of very good quality made me look older than i am probably! Once i bougth Lipfinity (from the original range which had wierd colours) and the only colour i found that suited was a burgundy type colour...except when i got home it was purpley burgundy and looked terrible but because i spent so much on it i felt i had to use it...i quickly stopped using it when i realised how bad it looked and it's still lying around somewhere!

hehehe this drags up some very bad memories
when i was about 14 or so (must be the age
winks.gif
) i used to love black eye liner on my inner rim ALL the way across. I also used to only wear covergirl makeup which we couldn't test at our local super market so i just used to buy the lightest shade (im very fair, NW15) and i loved red lipstick
all of that made me look slightly goth even though i was a well behaved catholic school girl!
i also went through a phase in year 8 of wearing silver lipstick-gross!
since then i feel ive improved heaps lol-at least i hope so...

When i was about 15 i was very "experimental" with my make-up and unfortunately nobody told me how silly i looked! The worst thing i did was pluck my eyebrows into oblivion. My eyebrows are very fair anyway, so even now, 7 years on, it still looks like i don't have any if i don't fill them in.
I was also awful at blending my eyeshadow and a lot of the time my eye make-up looked very drag queen-esque!
I'd like to think i've improved

My worst makeup was that I had this old bf who was really artsy and alternative and he thought I looked better without makeup so I went years without it for him. Can we say STUPID?? Happily I learned to love makeup again once I dumped him and everyone said how much happier I looked. Yeah. Duh, I looked happier b/c I had makeup on. I wore makeup again, and never looked back.

Oh gosh.

In probably about 7th grade, I very vividly recall having this Wet& Wild quad - it had black, dark, bright pink, very dark purple, very dark, almost turquoise green and black and I would wear those colors daily. black as the inner lower lid liner (no clue how I was able to do that - can't even get close now) and then the other three on the actual eyelid. Makes me wish I had pictures. It was comical. But it was the 80s so that's my excuse =)

In high school I soooo wanted to look like all the musicans I admired, so I would put WAY too much black eyeliner on. I would reapply it hourly almost. My other ugly habit was Courtney love lips, basically lipstick sloppily all over the mouth, some on the lips, some wherever . My friends and thought we really looked "tough" and "cool" doing this, when actually we looked like idiots who did our makeup in pitch black or something. The worst thing is pictures of it exist and occasionally someone will show me them, ugh!

I think i went through alot of phases with makeup. I never really went throught applying to much it was just always wierd colors...when i was first able to wear makeup ( in like 8th grade) i wore this one lipstick by jane it was a purrple-brownish color and it tasing AMAZING to me... now i see that color in wal-mart and im like.. how the hell did i make that work?!. I didnt wear it too long but i wore it. Another phase i went through was looking like some cyber chic(not a sex chic... like like some space girl)... i wore really shimmery white/blue powder on my eyes and wore a pearlish-purple color on my lips... my hair in HUGE pigtails... little shirt, little shorts and HUGE shoes... Im sure I achieved my look but i can just imagine what people thought lol.. it was great i wish i had pictures.

I really started getting into makeup around age 13, and would order Urban Decay eyeshadows over the phone (like, before UD sold online or was in many stores)...well, you know how they have the looks on their website? I used to try to duplicate them (and they were much crazier then than now), but since I didn't really understand a lot about makeup, it came out pretty scary. If you're familiar with UD, one of the looks was Asphyxia (bright magentaish purple) in the crease, with Shattered (blue green) on the lid...which would be fine except I didn't understand the crease concept and I put the Asphyxia all the way up to my brow (real heavy-like, with a sponge applicator), and would go to school like this, along with Shattered lipstick. Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

I didn't wear a lot of makeup until a few years ago, but I remember in grade 7 I wanted to look "nice" for my school picture. I grabbed some black eyeliner and brownish lipstick and smeared it all on minutes before my picture was taken. It was absolutely terrible and my mom still sent copies of it to all my family members. I'm sure they had a good laugh.

So when I entered the 7th grade I had this gangster phase (like wearing my older brother's old baggy jeans and sag them, boxers underneath, etc). I pretty much got my makeup from my mom: Clinique face powder (because she'd rather get me a quality brand than a cheap one that'll damage my skin) and sample makeup from the gifts she'd get with her purchases. I also got this brown wet and wild eyeline since it's really cheap. Anyways, the way I did my makeup was black eyeliner with brown e/s and my lips were either dark brown, burgandy or the dark lipliner (usually brown) with a lighter color lipstick. Yeah when I think about it now, it was pretty ugly. Too bad I don't have any pics of that....I usually had to wipe off the l/s before I got home since my mom didn't like me to wear bold lip colors.

heh I vividly remember those bad bad m/u days. Black circles around my eyes (thick liner) no foundation or powder, no nothing except lots of liner...when I did wear m/u it was bad.
I didnt get "really" into m/u until about 5 years ago...Since I found mac Ive been addicted. My sister is 6 years older than me, and she still doesnt know how to apply any makeup!! (shes 37) except lipstick.
I gave her a viva glam palette for Channukah, and Im sure she hasnt even touched it!!

LOL - I remember a time when I thought spending more than $4-5 on an item was WAY Too much!!! WTF WAS I THINKING???

OMG I looooove this post! I was never really a makeup fashion victim, I'm happy to say. With the exception of trying out some Wet& Wild temperature-affected hideous pink lipstick in FIFTH GRADE (why the hell did my mom let me leave the house? whatever, gotta love her for letting me be my own person), I was pretty lucky. I was way into the Bonne Bell when they expanded beyond lipsmackers, and of course I had some of the Jane flavored lipsticks (they WERE awesome, but now I'm like...ew). In 8th grade I would wear a frosty pearl cream eyeshadow, like, every day, and would layer on the clear mascara because I lived and breathed Seventeen and they said it was bad to wear black mascara if you were a fair-skinned blond--BAH! But looking back, my clothes were WAYYYY worse!

Haha wow my make up past is rather embaressing. When I first started to wear make up I was like 12, 13 so it was alot of pinks and browns. Nothing terrible but nothing special. However it did tend to make me look alot older then I actually was. I was often mistaken for a 16 year old which my mother hated.

When I reach highschool though things changed alot. I went into a goth phase(not hot topic "goth" but more romantic vampire type goth. Not that this excuses it any.)
I'm really pale to begin with but I went out of my way to exaggerate this by wearing not foundation but a white concealer that max factor made as foundation. I wore lots and lots of eyeliner, not always applied so well but I eventually got better. Dark purple, burgandy and red eyeshadows(occasionally silvers, blues and greys as well) anddark purple, red and burgandy lipstick although never black thank god. I look back at pictures and just wonder how I was let out of the house.

by my junior year I gave the goth look up, I started hanging out with a buch of gutter punks(I probably gave my poor dad a heart attack.). However I shuned off the traditional punk look and went for a look that was a bit more like a punk kid/candy kid hybrid. I went out of my way to wear the brightest colors possible. My favorite eyeshows being bright pink, bright green and purple. I never wore much lipstick at all during this time period but there was plenty of gliter that made up for that. The funny thing it I was never a raver, I was a punk girl but I just loved being as brightly colored as possible. I also found it really funny when I would hug one of my gutter punk friends and they'd get glitter all over them. They only tolerated it because they loved me. I don't have many pictures from this phase. It's probably better because I'd like to forget it however my senior year book pictures won't let me. :/

I'm really glad I grew up anyways, I still wear bright colors but not to that extent and at least now I know how to apply my makeup.

When I was 14, I wore pink, baby blue, and white shadow from a Maybelline trio in vertical stripes, topped with a ton of black liner and mascara. And you couldn't tell me that wasn't cool back in those days. LOL!

I don't think I was so bad as far as my makeup when I was younger. I never really put too much on, but I do remember going through a phase where I had a TON of different color mascaras, and I LOVED them!! I would match them to my clothes and everything! Another thing I am guilty of is the brown lipliner (which I still prefer, but MUCH lighter and more natural) and lighter brown lipstick, top that with long curly hair with too much mousse, and people thought I was going to beat them up (as in, they thought I was in a gang)!! After the mascara thing I tended to keep my makeup natural, and since I actually read the directions on the back of the eyeshadow trios, I understood the concept of med. shade on the lid, dark in crease, and light as highlighter, but then I got too lazy and decided I valued my sleep a lot more so I didn't wear makeup for about three or four years (except on VERY special occassions) and recently got back into it in Dec., and now my wallet hates me!! Sorry if I just started babling in the middle of this

when I was 14/15/16I used to wear baby blue [UGH] eyeshadow and my staple was wet-n-wild purple eyeshadow quad i bought for $2.00.

Wow, memories. I remember in Jr. High I discovered eyeliner. Being the artist that I am, I immediately went for the liquid felt tip pen kind. In navy blue, no less. I was sitting next to a guy in class and he totally called me on it. He said "You realize how bad that looks don't you? It's just slopped on there, it's a crappy blue mess." He was a dork, and I loved makeup so much that this didn't even phase me. But from then on I made sure that I had plenty of time to do my makeup flawlessy or not at all!

I used to think my Collection 2000 (very cheap Uk brand) eyeshadow trio was 'special' and i did the lightest wash of colour on my eyelid using my finger and thought everyone would notice it and my cousin said ''you can't see anything there''
