Try using a base underneath to get a truer color. Urban Decay Primer Potion is great. I get about 12 hours wear out of it. Also, MAC Shadesticks are great.
I'll tell you what I do...for a work look, I'll probably be sticking with conservative neutrals (since I'm pretty sure bright shadow in court is a no-no). What I will usually do that is quick, easy, but still interesting is a light to medium color on the lid, with a medium to dark color in the crease and a light color to highlight. I then use a pencil liner and I soften the line using an angled eyeliner brush. Finish off with Mascara on the top lashes only, blush and lipstick and/or gloss.
