MAC - Peacocky discussion

Our counter is so stinking dark that it is hard to do anything there unless it shows up well. I will take another look at Peek At You. If it is still around when I get some more money
I might try to pick it up. I want to use these in my kit- they will go really well on many people, and with the right base- maybe they will work out well after all.

Glad to hear this!

Don't feel bad- the first day I got Metal Rock MSF which was sold out almost instantly, I dropped it and it shattered all over the bathroom floor.

I scooped up everything I could and put it back in the pan and then I smashed it as much as I could with my fingers. Then I added rubbing alcohol
and pressed it in using the insert that came with the MSF. I pressed the dome into the top to smooth it best I could and then left it in the sun to dry
as it was a warm day.

I brought it on and let it keep drying over the next few days.

It looked disgusting, but I am still using it to this day and have a fourth of it left.

The key to using it is to brush VERY lightly over the top of it to use it and eventually it will form a crust again

First of all, it is always good to be honest- so it is good to hear how you feel about this collection!

Starflash did not work for me, and I never got any of them. I have terrible reactions to most of MAC regular eyeshadows no matter what base I use.
As for other brands, there are some out there which are similar, but the high blendability of these Mega Metal is really nice for me- and they don't give me bad reactions
at all- a huge plus.

The lipcolour on the other hand is a disaster for me- they look horrible, patchy, and settle in the creases quickly. I got the blue for fun, but it really is not that great
in performance- just color. Some people can wear them, but the people who tried them on at the counter when I was there all looked patchy and they did not look overly flattering
with those on.

But the colors are somewhat dupeable. The two browns complete my peacock palette from DuWop which was my original intent in getting them. I do peacock eyes a lot
and being an artist, I am stickler for color and texture.

Oh yeah, Urban Decay is even worse on me than MAC eyeshadows are. They disappear in half an hour over any base at all, and many of the colors cause burning although
not as much as MAC tends to. (regular formula shadows). In fact, Urban Decay is SO bad on me that I had a makeover done for fun by a UD makeup artist and when I got
into the car, my husband took one look at me and asked, "What is THAT? It is fading before my eyes- must be Urban Decay....."

He had no idea I was going to get a makeover at all and rarely notices my makeup out loud unless it is really good or really bad.

When I used UD Naked Palette, he said I looked like I had a hangover and then after half an hour my eyes started burning so badly I had to remove what was left of it.

I know I am an exception probably not the rule, but just wanted to give a little perspective from this side too.

Just a little rambling- hope it was not too hard to follow! LOL

I really want to love this collection but there are so many dupes for the eyeshadows in the regular line and they are so overpriced!
I think even the MA's feel weird about it when talking about the collection. Everyone knows that MAC is supposed to be the more affordable higher end brand. Don't get me wrong the lip products are amazing..not lipstick not gloss something in between. Love them but it's sad that they are priced so high and not everyone can enjoy them or purchase more than few..The eyeshadows are nice but not that different from starflash texture. I am really disappointed in MAC.

You can get a Urban decay book of shadows for the price of 3 of these eyeshadows. Save your money and get the Naked Palette..seriously.
This is my honest review of this collection. Sorry to be debbie downer but someone has to say and hope MAC gets the feedback they seriously need.

Probably a good idea to branch out for sure.

I have a terrible time with most MAC shadows in the regular line (some good colors work on me though), Many of the other lines give me trouble too, so I am limited in my choices. Thankfully we can get LORAC here which is one of the best shadows on the market for the most part, and some Tarte is nice although not all. Urban Decay is really awful on me, and some smashbox is not too great either. Half of MUFE does not work for me either, but the ones that do are great.

I go by quality and workability on the eyes - not brands. If it works on me and others well, then I get it. If it doesn't I don't care the brand, it isn't worth it.

I have to say I agree with you. I've been purchasing MAC for a looong time but didn't become an avid collector until Warm & Cozy (late '09/early '10). Since then, I've been happy until recently with their price increase and then even more so with their Back2Mac changes. I used to B2M for limited edition products all the time and now my pro store said MAC changed their policy to where you can only B2M for permanent eye shadows in the pot, lipstick, or lipGLASS; no cremesheen glasses or dazzleglasses. With the Rodarte controversy, bullsh** with the Mickey collection being online only (basically) then selling out in 0.3 seconds, and discontinuing some of my favorites, I decided that in 2011 I will be branching out from MAC collections and instead focus on buying 2 things a month to build my eye shadow palettes and maybbeee 2-3 things from a LE collection if it impresses me. Plus, I've been branching out into NARS, MUFE, etc more because I've yet to be disappointed with those brands. Though the Peacocky collection is beautiful, the prices disappoint me. Though the Mickey Contractor collection has it's good points, it was a huge hassle getting my hands on products. But still...I'll probably go get Prance lol

I'll be interested to see how I do with Woo Me when it gets here. I don't have any problems with Flaunting It because I apply just a small amount and then distribute evenly with my fingers, or with Scandelicious because I do the same thing and then blot (it's too bright for me). With Woo Me I'm expecting I'll apply like a lipglass.

I used these with Too Faced Shadow Insurance and it grabbed the color nicely- I am going to try Pixie Epoxy and Too Faced Shadow Insurance for glitter too and see how they do.

Without a high tooth (grabs texture and shadow well) eyeshadow base, these don't work as well for me either. With the base, they are fantastic.

I gave a couple of these shadows a try today. I have to say, much to my disappointment, that these didn't deliver as I thought they would when I swatched them. They're not bad, they blended fine, but the colour itself didn't show up near as much as I would have liked. I used Top of the Posh and Centre Stage, with Base Light as a base. Centre stage went on as a fairly muted ashy brown colour (not nearly as dark as it appeared in the pot), and while Top of the Posh is a really pretty light pink with a gold sheen, it didn't show up all that much. I'll give these another go tomorrow, with UDPP and maybe try the pink paint (Canton Candy?) as a base, which I'm sure will make Top of the Posh pop more. So far then, for the price that these are, I feel underwhelmed. I did find though, that these had only the tiniest amount of fallout compared to most other metallic shadows, and they did wear well, more so than the starflash shadows did. I'm hoping the other shadows I picked up will work out a little better.

I went back and forth with SoY for a few reasons. I thought it was too warm as well. What I was missing is that it was brightening my eyes up, and since I had winterized my makeup so much, I thought I looked out of place for the season. I had to look past all of that! When its all sunny and nice outside in a few months, I am going to be happy I got it. I always liked SoY, but I was unsure about it for the wrong reasons.

I also ended up using SoY with Centre Stage to cool it down a bit. its also going to look good with Dandizette and any other blues I want to wear. Looking at my regular MAC shadows I am noticing that SoY will work with some of them very well. So basically, I will get lots of use out of it. Check your stash and wee what you can work it with. I can't wait to try it out with Sketch or Embark in the outer corner/crease.

I skipped SoY too but then when I went with warm hair the other day and tried it on again, I did similar to what you did. I will try to post the photos today- my husband was on the computer all day yesterday so I could not post them. You are spot on with your comments- it really does brighten up the eyes and with CS to temper it in the crease ,it is gorgeous.

OK so I tried everything, bought some and took it all back...the only thing I was considering keeping was Flaunting it, but I have a Maybelline Infallible gloss + a backup of what looks like Flaunting It on my lips. Sod sad. If I see some of these shadows at the CCO I'll buy them then, but I don't need any of the shadows. The finishes are nice, but these shadows are big and I won't get much use of them.

To everyone else who got stuff and love it from this collection, please enjoy!!!!

To me the standout of this collection are the lip colour. I adore the Chanel RA Laque and think that these kissable lip colours are comparable just not as pigmented. I agree with Katred though I don't find the Chanel ones drying at all but still superior due to better coverage and amazing wear time. But for the price the Kissable shades are wonderful products. I'm wearing Woo Me today and got soooo many compliments on it. It's an awesome nude on me. I have four of the lipsticks now but I want to get at least one more, lol! Thinking maybe Flauting It as mauve is such an easy and pretty way to wear neutral lip colours.

Suzy - you have such gorgeous eyes and those warm colours really bring them out, HOT!

_tiffany - you are rocking that blue, not sure if I could.

LeeleeBell - Agreed with every word. I hardly buy LE stuff anymore but I did like this collection quite a bit.

Singer82 - I've mentioned this on Specktra a few times before, but I disagree with eyeshadow colours being too warm/or too cool for someone's skintone. To me, an eyeshadow is a good fit if it brings out your eye colour. I love burgundies and purples with red/warm tones as they tend to bring out the gold flecks in my eyes. I'm NW20-25 depending on my spray tan so I'm more in the neutral to cool family skintone yet I love warm toned shades (like SOY) for my eyes. I tend to look much better in cool toned lipsticks and blushes though. My HG lipstick ever is Snob.

I am absolutely in love with the eyeshadows in this collection. I wish they would have gone with a smaller pan, but oh well.

I HATED the lipglosses. They smelled, they had an awful feel/texture on my lips and I didn't feel compelled to purchase any of them. I tried about 5 of them on in store and couldn't stand them. They seemed like liquid chalk to me, so I passed. Seems as though I'm in the minority with that opinion though.

Everyone needs Dalliance. It's stunning and I have seen nothing like it!

I am actually loving that they are big. Having them in a palette with the divider removed has changed my opinion on their size.
Since they are bigger, I will be more likely to use them, as opposed to regular sized LE shadows that I love and may not use as often because there is less product.

We would all be boring as hell if we all liked the same things for the same reasons, no?
It's interesting to hear what people like/dislike about this collection.

I totally agree. I'm fascinated by what works and doesn't work for others for some reason. I typically never by MAC eyeshadow because it isn't pigminted enough for me, but I loved this formula. I need products that don't require a huge amount of work, and for me these didn't. This is the biggest haul I've ever done on a LE collection but I adore every product I got. For me that's most important. I have BOS 3 and while a great value I wish I would have passed as I only wear about 4 shadows out of it. Oh well, lesson learned.

I wore SoY yesterday with no base and Suspect (UD) as a brow highlight. I've never received so many compliments. Funny because that's so basic and I was just trying to get out because I had to drive in snow so I needed something quick. sss215 your right about it brightening your eyes. On a cloudy winter day I needed that. This shadow will be used by me all year round. So worth the $19.50 to me. It lasted all day and didn't crease. I've never paid attention to if my lids are overly oily or dry but whateer the case, this formula and my body chemistry obviously get along! For someone who's farily new to wearing eyeshadow these are great. I have 2 palettes, 1 duo, and 3 singles so it was a good way to build my collection.

I'm wearing Flaunting It today. Man I love these lip colors! I love that this color is a nice pop of subtle color. Some days I want color, but I don't want it screaming. Granted, these days are rare but Flaunting It will be my go to on those days for sure. I also suspect that it will get used even more in the summer.

BeautybyLele get Tweet Me - it is stunning. I'll do a swatch for you if you want to see. We look like we have similar shading. So many combinations and great alone. If I had to only pick one, that would have been it for me.

I gave these shadows another go today, with somewhat better results. I tried them out over my usual base, which is UDPP plus MAC's base light paint. I used Peek-At-You over the entire lid, (found it a bit sheer, but showed up okay over baselight), then used Noir Plum on the outer half of my lid and Centre Stage to define the outer v. Noir Plum is by far the best one of the bunch I have. So, so happy I got this. It swatched fairly bright, but once on, is a perfect deep blue-based purple shade. Centre Stage toned it down a bit for work! I still find these are not all that pigmented, with the exception of Noir Plum, but they do blend very well, so it made for a very quick application, which is HUGE for me in the mornings!

Have yet to try the lip products, but hopeful with the good reviews so far!

I like to change it up as far as eye looks pretty regularly, but I still can't let go of SoY, that's how much I love it...I've worn it every day since I got it (Thursday), lol. Today I put gold mode over half of my lid (starting inner corner) with SoY on the rest of the lid, and Sketch in the outer v. (all applied over pixie epoxy).

Trying out Peacocky as I sit at home --- I discovered that my Prestige eyeliner in Trance is a great lipliner for it. The color applies much more evenly when I put the eyeliner on first and color in (which is what I do with lipliners). I am also using UD lipliner in Ozone around the edges as I do with any lip product.

http://www.prestigecosmetics.com/eyes_waterproof_automatic_eyeliner.cfm

I kind of wish it was an Amplified Creme lipstick; I really like the color but am not a huge fan of colored glosses. They travel too much for my liking.

I did find the gooey consistency of the lip product to ease a little once it sat on my lips for a while. Now to see how long it lasts.

If I could get a decent pic of myself I'd share the look I did today with Papparazz-She. Anyway I used Indianwood p/p as a base then Papparazz-She over top then used Fashion Groupie in the crease and corner with Push the edge in the very crease and a little on the outside corner. I love purple and orange together :D. I lined the bottom with Bordeuxline on the outer 2/3 and then lined the inner 1/3 to corner with Papparazzi-She. Oh and for l/s I used Purple Rite :D

If lady gaga looked weird, then I'd say go for Vanity Fair. It's not quite as cool as enchantee, a bit deeper of a pink, but still bright imo. Having said that, I picked up both, but I know I will have to sheer out Enchantee and probably wear a more brown toned liner with it. HTH!

The lipcolor has zero lasting power. Sipping carefully out of a glass of water decimated it. That's a shame :(

It seems like one of those glosses that you have to tend constantly, which is going to drive me nuts!
