MAC - Surf Baby Discussion

Geez Shontay, just when I about decided to skip Sun Blonde you and HG have me thinking I may just need it.

Totally off topic--I hope you younger ladies can help me out. My daughter (22) is going to a friend's wedding Saturday. Is it appropriate to wear a strapless dress to a wedding? I haven't been to a wedding in I don't know how long and I sure don't know what the younger ladies are wearing. It is an afternoon wedding. It will be hot here. She really likes the dress and asked me if it ok to wear to a wedding. It is not a sexy dress. It is a just above the knee, not deep cut, a tiny sweetheart dip (my daughter has a small chest anyway), pretty much straight across. It is solid plum that is fitted and at the waist flares out so nothing tight, probably a good twirl dress:)

When I got married 24 yrs ago that would have been a big no-no but people dress differently now for events. Any suggestions?
Personally, I think that sounds lovely! I don't know why that wouldn't work.

Back on topic: Guess who just happened to volunteer to run to the MAC store for my mom tomorrow? Looks like I'll be able to pick up Hangin' Loose after all, which is great because I took a nap today and had a dream about it. I've pretty much decided that any makeup I have a dream about is something I should own.

Why on Earth would you skip Sun Blonde?

I think the dress sounds perfectly appropriate for a summer wedding, not that I'm an expert on what young ladies wear generally...

She should totally wear it. It sounds adorable.

Update on Hibiscus. It's been about 6 hours since I applied, and it's stained my lips LOVELY. I even drank and had a small snack, and the color didn't wear away in the middle and just leave color on the edge like lipsticks usually do on me. This one's a keeper.

OK, these are what I got so far:
My Paradise - Beautiful! It looks like Marine Life's orange cousin. Very summery! I cannot wait to wear it! I think I should use a light hand to apply this.
Surf USA - As everyone already mentioned, it's very pigment. I like it has some green in it. I cannot wait to wear this with Sun Blonde.
Saffron - I'm happy I finally got it. I missed it with Mickey Contractor collection. A MA recommend to pair Saffron with any semi pearl brown colors like Coppering e/s and Tan pigment or even greens.
Sun Blonde - My first yellow MAC e/s! I hope this brings more green from Surf USA.
Hibiscus - I got this at my counter. (Everything else was received by mail.) If MAC decides to send me my backordered Hibiscus, then, I will have a backup.

I love Viva Glam Cyndi so much, so I have a high hope for this one. My Paradise and Hibiscus should look hot together in summer.

Shadowaddict, the dress sounds very pretty! She should enjoy it at the wedding.

Salina, enjoy Hangin' Loose! Love your new picture!

Thanks guys. I knew I could count on my specktra ladies. She'll be glad to hear that since she wasn't sure. She doesn't dress up very much. She's more of a tee and jeans kind of gal with a casual skirt thrown in. When she's feeling like it she'll wear a short skirt, fishnets, corset and little blazer and either boots or heels. My hubby just gives me a look like "ahhh is that outfit ok for her to go out in?" I laugh at him. I mean she is 22 but he did this when she was high school also. We agreed a long time ago that it would be best for me to judge what she's wearing because when it comes to their little girls a daddy would have her in overalls and a flannel shirt. She was never one to want to go out in her teens all sexed up so it was not an issue thank goodness.

I'm glad to hear Hibiscus has great staying power, looking forward to it.

Kate--I keep second guessing Sun Blonde when I hear people calling it poo and vomit. I haven't worn Jasmine in a while but I do like it. I've hit pan on it. OK so Sun Bonde will come home with me also. I called today and checked that they are still holding my items.

Heehee- thank you!

And peachsuns, IMO, Hibiscus is better than Cyndi, and Cyndi is one of my faves! Like ladyarwen said, it sort of stains the lips after a few hours, and it kind of fades (at least on me) to a pinky coral. It's stunning! I'm sure it'll look great with My Paradise!

Cyndi is one of my all time faves. I'm so glad I got at least one Hibiscus. Great job, MAC! Hope whoever wants this lippie will be able to get it!

I think so! It's like my perfect mix of Cyndi + Toxic Tale, but definitely not a dupe for either. It has a bit of the shine/glossy look that Cyndi has and a bit more of the red pink (on me at least), but it's still a gorgeous bold coral like Toxic Tale and more wearable. Love, love, love!!!!! I'm so glad I got a backup since I can definitely see going through a whole tube of this stuff (and fast).

Hope everyone gets it, too!

PS: Speaking of Cyndi, elegant. I tried to explain to my mom about the smoosh technique, but she misinterpreted and basically squished the top of my Cyndi. Apparently she didn't get that she was supposed to pull the lipstick away from her lips before the smoosh, and now I will forever have her lip imprint on Cyndi. Until I use it up, of course. :D

Hello I am sorry if this was all ready covered but could someone please confirm/clarify this: My MAC artist told me she compared Swell Baby with
Bough Grey (Liberty of London collec.) and said they are the same thing. Can any one confirm?

I wanted Swell Baby because I fancy grey shadows but I suppose I don't need a 2nd of the same.

Also I am really bummed they did not bring Tendertones back in the little pots. Suntints suck! I don't like them at all.

I picked up Saffron and Sun Blonde I thought they were very pretty off beat shades. Saffron swatches a little ruddy what are you guys layering underneath it
to get it to really pop the lovely color it is in the pan?
thanks! =o)

Swell Baby is a bit warmer than Bough Grey (a bit bluer compared to SB) on my hand (I'm about NC10-15 now) when I swatched them. SB is half to one shade darker than BG. But they are surprisingly close to each other. Even when they are not exactly dupes, I would say if someone isn't huge fan of greys one or the other could be enough. Swell Baby has better pigmentation. :)

It's odd that Saffron in this collection is causing problems, the one from Mickey C. has very good colour payoff, one of the best shadows this year.

I tried so hard to get a good picture, but it just didn't show up like real life. I'm wearing Short shorts on the lid with Swell baby in the crease, and a matte vanilla under the brow with Juxt green e/s under the lower lash .... SOOOO soft and gorgeous!! I'm in total love with Swell Baby. She didn't get much hype but she's lovely.

Ooh, I think I'll be trying this combo! I LOVE Swell Baby, just don't know exactly what to pair it with yet since this is my first gray.

I'm not hearing any talk on the liquid lip balms. Does any one like these?
Also, how can I confirm that gilded white is safe for the waterline?

honestly i hate the liquid lip balms. they are really runny and goopy and add no colour. you're better off saving your money and buying a lip smacker!

I have Sun Blonde on my lid and I applied Blacktrack as a liner and I can see the tiniest bit of olive sheen on the edges lol
It actually looks quite pretty.

I just took your advice and on the back of my hand I put a bit of NYX's Black Bean and put the Sun Blonde over it and it turned this weird green color. Almost like an olive sheen.

I'm wearing surf USA with print and bough gray. It's pretty and t reaffirms my initial belief that I don't need swell baby. Oh well. It's already on it's way so...

That is too cute! Well, for me at least maybe not for your Cyndi. A whole new meaning for the Dab & Smoosh method LOL

Yep - I agree with your take on Hibiscus :)

OK so i ended up with Hibiscus, Sun Blonde, Saffron and My Paradise. That's it! I've been on a MUFE kick lately and I am happy to spend my money collecting their aqua liners and stuffages so I feel pretty good about this MAC haul. Noticed last night MAC (online) had everything in stock cept for the two highlights of the collection My Paradise and Hibiscus. Happy to have both now. Anyway, I hope everyone gets their packages and all that they want. I'm done with Surf Baby. On to the next!
