The problem I have with palettes (apart from the fact that I immediately want to depot them) is that there's often one shade that I don't like or that isn't as good as its partner. I like a couple of these shades individually; I may end up getting Swiss Chocolate instead of Indie Spirit, for instance. Not an exact dupe, but a nice alternative.

Finally saw the whole collection yesterday!

A few quickie thoughts:

Last year, Delectable did not work on me at all - it was too flat and dead looking. This year, the formula feels much creamier and it goes on smoothly and not chalky. Suddenly a color that was pretty blah looks very flattering. I'm getting it this time around. It's like a more mellowed, fall-sy Salute. Very attractive!

Fun Finds had more of the flat, drab effect on me like the light colored mattenes from last year, although it'd probably look better on a more NW person. It's a color/texture that will be awesome on just the right person and kind of a let down if not. I'll stick to my Restrict.

Fashion Nomad is 100% awesome. It's bright but with some very subtle brick undertones that differentiates it from Sail La Vie and other summer oranges. My favorite lippie from the whole collection. Also very smooth even application, which isn't always something you get from mattenes.

Camden Chic was too reminiscent to Legendary and Unknown Pleasures from last year, but the formula is very good - unlike the dark mattenes from the past, it applies very smoothly and evenly - you don't need to baby it onto your lips.

Local Wares: I really like this one better than Avenue. It applies MUCH more smoothly than Avenue, also it's much more opaque in a single pass. If you remember French Quarter greasepaint stick, Local Wares is lighter, but has a very similar type of sparkle - same sparkle colors, but just a bit more finely milled. The sparkle definitely shows up on application if you are winging it out and not just doing a very fine line. I saw Christine gave it an A, and although I'm not into grades, this is a superior fluid line, especially the excellent texture and ease of application.

Eclectic Edge and Ready to Roam are hard for me to decide on. They're very similar to the orange and red glosses from Hey Sailor!, just a tiny bit less brassy, opaque and dense. Also a teeny tiny touch less bright. Ready to Roam, in particular, looks gorgeous in the tube. At first I was thinking, oh these are too similar to Hey Sailor to bother, but there is one particular factor that may make me wind up getting one or both: unlike the Hey Sailor ones, these actually blot down really well, without leaving a crumbly sensation, so you can wear them gently as a subtle gloss, rather than va-va-voom or nothing, like the HS ones. Meanwhile, Restless is very pretty and less typical, but it looked a bit dowdy on me...I don't do well with a lot of brick red lip colors. I think it would pop fantastically on NW people, also I think it would be awesome on a wide variety of Asian skin tones.

More musings later!

I love both of these colors, but the payoff on both these shadows sounds awful. The duo with Star Myth is gorgeous, but looks like half of the the Call me Bubbles quad and I don't need dupes. I ended up ordering Marche Au Pauces (spelling?) because it looked unique and good fall colors with good pigmentation and texture.

OK, more musings

I just read Temptalia's reviews of Marche aux Puces and On the Hunt and I have to disagree a bit here.

For On the Hunt, Star Myth is just incredible - I thought I had a small enough amount on my brush that it would go on sheer and lightly...WOW I was wrong. This one is so pigmented, so buttery and soft and smooth, with a mega metallic finish that is still super smooth and forgiving of skin texture. It's very blendable and I had zero fallout during or after application, without anything underneath but moisturizer that had been fully absorbed. Raving Mad was phenomenal too - it went on a tiny touch lighter in color than I expected from the pan, but it certainly did not need any special tricks or packing on. Not only did it go on smoothly, it had just the right ratio of stiffness and softness for my taste, so you can get a really excellent crisp contour, cut crease or wing out of it - the texture lets you place it very precisely, rather than just going on too softly and all-over-the-place diffuse. Finally, omg the staying power was remarkable - I had no base on underneath and I honestly could not get Raving Mad off without remover - I wore it all day and even went to an outdoor concert in the evening and it stayed on through everything without any fading or losing the crisp contouring I'd done with it. LOVE IT. I wasn't too sure I was going to go for any of the duos, but this one is a no brainer and a definite buy for me.

Marche aux Puces performed exactly the same as On the Hunt, as far as the textures and blending ability goes, though I didn't get to wear it all day. I'd say the shades are a bit more common than On the Hunt, if you can only pick one or the other, but these two were the best MAC duos I've seen this whole year.

P.S. I used 242 and 252 for these. I think a 224 would be nice for a softer veil of the frosted colors.

One more thing about those shadow duos - you will NOT want to touch them with your fingers or with a brush that had emollient or wet products on it. They seemed like you could ruin the surface very easily without care. I'd be scared to drop them too. Definitely on the delicate side, even though they don't kick up powder at all when you load up your brush.

Meanwhile, more observations:

Mean and Green seems a lot more opaque this time around, which is very nice. One coat was close to the way 2 or even 3 coats look from the VV M&G. The only problem is, my store didn't get any extra shipped in for this collection. They are stuck with the stock they already had from the nail polish expansion launch. Very weird.

Styleseeker is hot. You'll need 2 coats - it was thin feeling. Didn't feel streaky, though. The red duochrome is pretty subtle. It just suddenly makes your nails look like they're on fire, rather than providing a more obvious color change. I know people have spotted dupes for this one, but I can't comment. I'm going to get the MAC version, since these other supposed dupes are hard for me to check out in person for a real comparison, and I love the effect Styleseeker has. It will look amazing with Fashion Nomad, Eden Rouge or even Delectable on the lips!

Strangely enough, Gadabout Girl is attracting me. On the surface, it seems like a color we've seen a zillion times, but the balance of blue and red in the shade is particularly complex and the color gets its richness and depth without a lot of black being added in, so it looks very jewel-like and brilliant, while still appearing dark. It's very high end looking. I'm going to get it!

Hidden Treasures is beautiful. I'm so glad I got a backup.

The duo is not particularly unique, but I didn't have another orangey-gold in my collection like Chessa; and while I have plenty of warm browns in my collection, Indie Spirit had enough of a different nuance in it's tone, that I wanted that color as well. I haven't used the duo in any eye looks yet.

Indie Spirit did remind me a little of Brown Script, which I know is more red-toned, but I pulled it out for comparison. They look similar in the pan, but you can see the difference when swatched. It was difficult to get a really good pic to capture the true color of these shadows, but it'll still give you an idea. The only other shadow in my collection that I think may be similar is from my NARS Surabaya duo, which I can't seem to locate right now so I can't say for sure - just recalling from memory.

Without flash

Right: Brown Script, Left: Indie Spirit

Thanks for your opinions and input, I definitely see the difference of the two its funny because on the pan they look so similar anyways I'm going to wait till next week I did order HT and a BU of it, I also got local wares, dark diversions, and Eden rouge and ready to roam a small haul but considering that I wasn't going to get anything from this collection I guess a good small one I'm getting better at not ordering everything that comes out lol which is a good thing for my husband

Liba, did you try the duo with Shadowy Lady? Temptalia said both shadows were crappy payoff. I have a shadowy lady and its hard to work with, but I love the color. That duo would be worth buying if the shadows aren't too chalky...

I only tried a tiny swatch on my hand, but Shadowy Lady didn't appear to be unusually stiff or dry. Probably best to wait for other folk's feedback or go in person and check it out (although people's fingers will wreck it fast). Really nice colors in this duo, but I have to stay away from cooler shades like these lately around my eyes, so I didn't give it a close look.

I NEED IT. I'm now on team 2 lol! So for me it's: Hidden Treasure Supercontinental Maybe: Local Wares (I LOVE fluidlines, but Local Wares and Avenue look so alike..) Restless (it looks great but I HATE the lipglass formula..)
