MAC Après Chic Collection Discussion (December 2012)

Can you try it in person?

I think SR looks nice on NC25, but it's definitely more in-your-face due to the finish. It will be beautiful on a Caribbean vacation (mind you, the vacation doesn't come with your SR order :)

Thanks - sounds like it's touch and go for me. The colour would be fine, it's the finish I'm concerned with. The counter near me only got 5 (perhaps the sixth is a tester) and they're not letting anyone swatch, unfortunately. There's no way I'm heading out at the crack of dawn on Boxing Day, so I ended up ordering it. It will be easier to sell than attempt to source later if I decide I want it after it's sold out, I think.

My total order:

Stereo Rose
Apres Chic
Hot Chocolate (hope it's not too grey for me)
287 Brush

Nothing from Strength or the other collections.

I was initially scared of SR, but it works really well on me if I use a very light hand. Otherwise I look rather clownish. I don't find that it is too metallic on my skin.

The blushes from this collection, however, may be very tricky. I am not a fan of trying testers on my face

after all of the horror stories that I have heard. Plus hand swatches will only help somewhat. I am going to try to swatch them before deciding. What to do?

That's not what they told me on MAC's ever-reliable live chat session!

Surprised SR is still in stock on the site. Maybe people have realized better products have come out since it was first released?

If it came with a trip (not to mention a beautiful young male attendent), I'd buy a case.

Not too worried about the SR - powder products last a long time and what is too shimmery for me (like Star Wonder that I now wish I'd skipped) often looks amazing on one of my daughters (one warm-neutral, one cool-neutral). The only time my youngest now wears makeup is to perform (skater), and a colour with a sheen looks great for that purpose.

I do use Light Year in the summer, just with a very light hand. I know the colour of SR will be flattering; hopefully it will work as a sun shade for trips south or summer as long as I apply carefully.

I'm NC15 and loved it, but it depends on what you're looking for. It's pretty light, but not really highlighter-light. On me it was more of a skin-tone evener that added some radiance. Didn't find it powdery or chalky. I used a standard 129 to apply it. Can you try it in person? That's your best bet.
I skipped both blushes. AP was way too orange (in a very unflattering way) and AG was kind of chalky. Keep in mind that I'm NW15 - 20, so it might look different on NC complexions.
Thank you! I'm closest to NC but I'm not really yellowish, not really pinkish either. I'm basically just all over pale and flush easily :). I think it might be best to check in person too... Not sure if I'm motivated enough to go though :)

I dunno but I don't find SR particulary metallic or orange for that matter. I have many MSFs that are metallic glitter bombs compared to SR. However, my SR does not really have metallic veining. I think that helps.

I ordered Apres Chic, Hot Chocolate, and Stereo Rose from this collection. I like the one lip swatch that I've seen of Apres Chic...but now I'm wondering if it's going to be similar to my Cyndi lipstick? Or maybe even Hibiscus? What do ya'll think?
Also, Hot Chocolate (at least from the instagram lip swatch) looks like a greyed brown? Do you think it will be too grey for my really yell--toned dark skin (I'm kinda a NC50 in MAC...but with way more yellow in my skin).
hibiscus is brighter and has shimmer. the colour of cyndi might be similar...i think AP is a flatter, more opaque colour, but i didn't spend too long looking at it. anyway, i don't think it's too similar to the other two you have. hth!

i'm kind of worried about the same thing regarding hot chocolate...i haven't placed my order yet, and i'm kinda thinking i might just go to the store on wed. i thought verve sometimes feels too grey on me, and though i haven't seen HC in person, the online swatches remind me of a lighter verve.

do we know for sure it's the same this time around? or is it one of those lightscapade/beigescapade deals?

Why don't you reach for it? I figured it'd be really pretty on deeper complexions- that's the only reason why I ordered it.
I honestly couldn't tell you. It does have shimmer which I am not a huge fan of but I did like it as a highlight when I used it before. Maybe I'll play around with it when I get home to see if I can rekindle my love for it :) I don't hate it, just haven't used it in a while. That'll change though. Thanks for the inspiration.

I've been busy posting in the Strength thread. :wishlist: Lipstick
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Apres Chic
  • Haute Altitude
  • Cozy Up
Mineralize Skinfinish
  • Stereo Rose x2
  • Porcelain Pink
Brushes
  • 287 Brush
No lipstick BUs or MES because of low funds. But I know I can go back and get BUs later from a counter if I really love something. I also want to see the MES in person first. I have a hunch I may BU Hot Chocolate. I just love the name being a chocoholic fiend. My makeup obsession pales in comparison to my chocolate one.
I did already BU hot chocolate. I saw a youtube guru with dark skin and it is like a mauvey color. Kinda like glamourdaze but with mauve undertone than brown. If I do not like it I can always return the bu.

that's why I'm not jumping for it. Plus I don't really wear my MSF's I have.

I really really like SR on me (NC15-20). I have low tolerance for metallic finishes, so I do find that I've to be quite light handed with SR, but it's not more metallic-y than the recent skinfinishes like WOG, Superb etc. And the colour itself is divine.

I also really like SR on me but I rarely reach for it, I have too much make-up (don't we all lol  ).
