MAC for Marilyn

So hard to stop the madness. I've gotten so much from these collections that I've had to expand my makeup center. It's still manageable in terms of organization but....with Archie on the horizon I may need to expand the expansion...that's just twisted!

Yeah I'm sort of right at the end of my storage solution at this point, which is frightening.

One thing, I do feel like there are certain categories of things that I have so much variety with, that it'll be easier to hold back when new products come out. For example - those Archie blushes are really beautiful, but I KNOW I've got colors that are going to look exactly the same on me, unless I want the clown cheeks look. I'm sure I'll try them and love them, but I think it's going to be easier to resist them. Same thing goes for stuff like eye pencils and coral lipgloss - it's all full up at the inn.

Yeah,

BBQ was discontinued last year. It was a great shade. I always wanted to pick one up but never got around to it.
You may be able to locate it @ cco.
I got mine from the clearance bin here, but I have seen it on ACW (albeit at a price I believe a little higher than retail). I am not affiliated, but I do give ACW a bit of my paycheck from month to month, BTW

I can swatch this, but not sure I can figure out how to post a picture. If someone can tell this Luddite how to do so, I will happily swatch BBQ liner

This. After awhile, unless something so gorgeous that it can't be passed up comes along there just isn't the same inclination to buy. If it's pretty but almost the same as something we already have (sometimes several versions of), I don't see much of a point. I've been here before with makeup stashes; the last time I reached capacity (and I had less than I do now because I had considerably less money back then), I just basically stopped buying anything other than basics like powder and foundation and the odd lippie for several years. I used things up (and yes, it's possible to hit pan on most of a large palette) or just finally got tired of them.

I'm about there now. I can't say that a gorgeous lippie, e/s, MSF or beauty powder won't come out that will draw me in but there really aren't any holes left in my collection and I hate having stuff I never use. I should know better than to do that; if I'm ambivalent about a product or fall in love with it based on how it looks on others (who don't have my colouring or skin type) then I inevitably end up gifting it away. So now if I get something and don't really like it, I'm not keeping it.

The 2013 buying criteria I'm going to try implementing is:

  1. Do I LOVE it? If no, pass. I have no room left for 'okays'. If yes, next question.
  2. Do I have something so similar that only one of the products will end up being used? If no, whohoo! Get it. If yes, next question.
  3. Am I tired of the original version and willing to BTM or give it away? If yes, am I sure this product won't be the same in 6 months?

  • I think most items won't make it past questions 1 or 2. Now I just have to be disciplined and not make rationalizations.

Good strategy! I need another blush like I need a hole in the head. I'm drawn to the unique, stand-out products and hopefully that's all I'll get. I say that now but will likely get caught up in the hype of it all!

I love that strategy and should totally adopt it. The trick is to avoid rationalizations and not be sucked in by the hype! I like to place myself on very specific no buys, for example, no more Lustre lippies because I have too many or no more pink frosts. Currently I am on a no buy for all glosses unless incredibly unique, no nude lippies and no more blue based red lippies. I should go on a blush no buy soon too, but not sure I have the discipline.

So has anyone been giving their Marilyn products love?
I regret getting the silver eyeshadow. Gritty and the color didn't look good on me. The champagne e/s looks better on me but like the silver one, it's gritty and glittery. It should have been labeled as a lustre finish not veluxe pearl. I haven't used Charmed I'm Sure since halloween and the beauty powder sits untouched like my Hey Sailor Crew BP.

That's why my New Year's resolution was to be more selective about my product purchase.
