I tried Runway Hit today and I'm a little disappointed. It looked great in the morning when I applied it but by 11am it started to look flaky. I applied balm ahead of time like I do with all my other retro mattes that I love but this one looked pretty bad after a few hours. I'm going to do a deeper exfoliation tonight and try it again tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I'd want to wear one of these retro mattes the day after I deep-exfoliated my lips. After exfoliation, your lips are sensitive and in "regrow new skin cells" mode, so I prefer to only wear very gentle, moisturizing lip products for even 2 days after, sometimes. I actually try and stay away from lip exfoliation as much as I can, and just use face cream and a soft wash cloth if I really need to smooth them out desperately.

Instead, tonight try drinking lots of water and using something really soothing on your lips, like some chamomile tea bags as a compress and then some really gentle, rich oil, like flaxseed or maybe avocado, dabbed on the lips with extra around but not right on the lips, then go to bed. Sometimes adding moisture around the lips instead of right on them works really well, since your skin will absorb it better than your sensitive lip skin will, and the lips will get the benefit just by proximity, without the potential to over-stimulate them.

I also I am not a fan of using balm under lipstick because the formulas don't always mix very well, even if you've let the balm sink in. A lip primer is a better idea since it's designed to work with lipstick, unlike balm, which is just designed to do its moisture thing and that's it.

I actually noticed that with FOF surprisingly. I'm hoping it was a fluke though.

OK so I saw this pic of Runway Hit on Instagram on this beautifulllllllll woman and just have to share it since I haven't seen many photos on here of this lipstick on darker skin tones. I think everybody should jump on the Runway Hit train!

I love seeing a brown girl rock Runway Hit, but I still have very little confidence it can work on me. I think the longer I wear it the more likely it is to turn funky. Certain colors in certain formulas just turn on me. For example RiRi Boy is good for a couple of hours and then can get funky, but Up the Amp (which is pretty much the same color) is awesome no matter how long I wear it. I can see RH making me look like a crackhead and there's nothing worse. I'll still swatch it tomorrow, though.

THis or I can pick it up for you.
Then I'd have no excuse to visit you.

Actually, next time you go to Pro can you try them on for me? (Then maybe pick up after we chat?) With me working weekends now it's hard to say when I'll be able to get up there. It will be winter before I know it and I won't want to roadtrip.

That's my fear with this shade. I'm afraid of how it will wear.

I don't have dry or cracked lips so I normally just use a wet cloth to smooth them when needed. Sometimes I'll use my sara happ sugar scrub but that's once a week or every other week. I drink water often during the day before bed and at night. I usually apply jack black balm before bed and wake up with soft lips. I always apply prep and prime or a balm while doing my makeup then wipe it off before applying my lipstick. I''ll try the oil that sounds like it would be nice on my lips. I still don't think it'll help with RH though but I'm willing to give it another try. I noticed it looked dry and flaky on a couple of other swatches I've seen so it might be the color that makes it more apparent than the darker colors.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not near a Pro store so I can't try them in person unfortunately. Thanks for your CW comments. I'm sure I'd be much more compelled to work a subtle contour rather than a high contrast one. It's just more realistic for my lifestyle. Maybe this Fall I head to Chicago to try them in person. This settles it. I'm getting this shade. Although I wonder if I'll like it in the Retro Matte formula? It may look too flat on me. I don't know...
Hopefully they'll still have them, as they were all LE.

I pick up my lipsticks tomorrow and will make sure to wear Runway Hit and see what happens. The only one I've worn all day so far is Dangerously, and that one didn't do anything weird. I was actually pretty surprised when I tried Runway Hit on, because my lips were really cracked from a cold that day, but it made them look nice and smooth anyways. That was a big surprise - I thought it would have accentuated every crack and dry bit. When I tried them all on, I did try RH first, since I usually go from the lightest lipstick to the darkest when I try on that many.

I was glad I didn't have that with FOF. I put it on right after I ate at 10:30 am and was so surprised at how vivid and good it still looked at 6:30. I would love to hear your thoughts after you've tried it again.

Thanks everyone! It's a beautiful shade, but it's not 'me'. KWIM? I prefer pinks like Nars Schiap, OCC Anime, Vasanti Hot Brit or Maybelline Vivid Rose!

I caved in and ordered Fashion Boost and Shock Value. I'll try to get the rest of the liners later. I also added Prep + Prime Lip to my order. I can't wait to try everything.
