While we're wildly off topic (sorry Richelle!) where's the best place to post for advice about a look to go with a specific outfit? Seems like the Recommendations forum fits best, but does anyone actually go in there?

I said that because $5 is not going to stop ebayers at all. It seems fair to me but that is my opinion. How many people only refresh here for launches instead of checking the sites? It is an amout to me that would keep lurkers out of the launch threads but still help those that only check here as a time saving measure because not everyone can check each site for 12 hours straight but wait for the subscription email with the update from here to go buy. I could see it as a fee for Specktra saving you from researching when it goes live on your own. Again JMO because a lot of people put as many hours in here as they would at a  job during launches and time is money.
I do see your point, but not everyone has $25 to just pay Specktra to have access to message boards. And just to play devil's advocate, why do people think the only resource resellers use is Specktra? If I was a dedicated evilbayer, I would be up stalking to! And who's to say they wouldn't pay the fee, they've got more money that some members because they resell for stupid high markups. It's a slippery slope increasing the price that probably won't deter them, but will deter new members who are really into makeup and just want a place to share that love.
Realistically if WE got $$$ to but a few items from EACH Mac collection... Then we have the money, although that is dipping into our makeup funds! That just means that's one less MSF we can buy... Lol !

Just got my blush and mineralize skinfinish! Both are extremely pretty; STBS is so pigmented! It's a very pretty warm pink shade when mixed together. I like Lavish Living but I think I have to try it on my face; I was worried it would just be a highlighter on my dark skin, but I *THINK* it may work. It's nicely pigmented as well but not as much as the skinfinish.
can't wait to see! I didn't get any only lip products because I was afraid how it would look on my nw43 skin

I completely re-arranged my order, knocked off some DN items and added a few Nars blushes! I am so antsy. Maybe I will change it back again on Thursday, who knows.

Definitely! Especially those of us in other areas where the collections sometimes launch a week or two later, all the swatches from the US are incredibly helpful to me. Plus I'll go back to a thread weeks or even months later sometimes if I pull out a particular product and want to see looks other people posted using it.

or "fee" in life.
People aren't taking horoscopes and selling them on ebay. That is really the issue here. Yes there are other places to find launch information but when there are 1,000 lurker/guests here it's safe to assume many of them are ebayers. We simply want the real mac lovers to be able to buy what they want w/out fear of coveted items selling out. No one's trying to be moronic, ridiculous or absurd, just looking for a good solution.

On another note, MAC didn't do anyone any favors handing out pro cards to anyone that wanted one at IMATS a few years ago. They definitely had a hand in this mess too.

I can't wait for T to get her stuff and post some swatches and I also can't wait to get my lippy and see how it looks on me. The higher price on this collection is keeping me from buying, but I am really interested to see more swatches and reviews to help me determine if going up to a store will be worth the drive or not.

IDK for concert tickets I pay $25-40 a year for advance buying info and access to forums. I would see it as a MAC fan club. Exclusive site info stuff. It would protect the people that give us early info and swatches and keep out the leeches.
I agree. I also pay 40 bucks on another forum. I don't think it is absurd. It's just a way to keep trolls out of forums and to maintain the quality of posts. I see it as an investment in my leisure time, thus I'm happy to pay for it.

Yes, $25-40 seems a lot, but it is per year. Given the fact how much we - and I largely generalize here - spent in general on make up, it doesn't seem a lot (although I certainly acknowledge that it is $$$).

Unless some new collections are posted I am done until the ED collection.

What am I going to spend all of my money on?

I think part of the problem is that this site is public and people can steal images and information. Much of the time, this site is the first to post such information and bloggers steal it (it's obvious that they copy and paste it when they repost the same misspellings and errors). It's not like the information won't be available sooner or later, but it's the fact that some people had to work their connections or spent their time doing swatches only to have their work stolen. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be!

Well that was really dumb of them! I remember reading through the pro card question threads and at one point it seemed as though if you sent them anything you were automatically approved. Dum dums.

I would probably pay $25 if it was an annual fee...shoot I was so pressed to get into the clearance bin and scoop up some goodies that I paid before I hit my eligibility limit. I've been lurking on Specktra since last year, finally joined this year and admit that while I lurk and read up on everything (drama included), I don't post as much. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to do that now 'cos every time people talk about "active members who contribute", I feel kinda guilty that I read, read, read and don't post as much. Either way, there is no easy solution and I understand the frustration behind it all.
