NARS Holiday 2011

Arabian Nights needs help to really pop. I used Paint Pots and a Greasepaint stick to get the job done.

That was my first impression when I swiped the colors w/ my fingers. I just got the new MAC Mixing Medium (in a pot) so I'll try to use that to swatch with.

Oh yeah... if you use them alone, you might as well use any old BLACK SHADOW.

Damn shame. But I do forgive NARS this time because I figured that would happen. The promo pic of this collection says it all. There's hardly a SPECK of shimmer on that poor model.

Had the Paint Pots not done the trick, I would have taken the trio right back. But since the colors showed up SO well, I'll keep it.

New mixing medium? Please tell....

FedEx guy left it last night. I tried playing with it a bit last night but couldn't get enough quality time with it. Got distracted by Chanel haul. I am going to swatch it tonight though.

It's a really pretty palette and a very good value. There are some shadows that dissapointed me (Mahna Mahna) and those that thrilled me (Woman Woman, Great Gonzo). I managed to snag a second to send to my sister as a Christmas present--she's as big a Muppets fan as I am.

hhhmm this is a little dissapointing. can we use nars shadows wet?
Yes, you can. :)
I think dark powder eyeshadows from NARS work best if used over a cream base, or if used wet. if I'm not mistaken, on the promo picture they used Arabian Nights trio over Zardoz (black) cream eyeshadow. But since NARS cream eyeshadows have a tendency to crease very easily (not so much if you apply powder eyeshadows on top), I'd say try to use it wet. It gives great results with the Night series eyeshadows.

^Thanks, I've been floundering around with my new Night Series palette, but I think I will try them wet!

OK, seeing Arabian Nights, I have to admit that I already have some pretty similar colours... At this point, the duo may be tempting me more! The others I have to see in person. Although it's on line, I haven't seen this collection in stores yet.

I'm kinda glad I didn't cave and get the trio. I did order the duo though, and for 20% off with the Sephora F&F code. I can't wait to get it. Don't you love when new releases coincide with sale codes?

ya the trio is a pass for me now...even when used wet, it's similar to a lot of colours I have. It's down to G-Spot multiple and Joyous Red l/s for me

For those interested the box sets are now up on the Nordstrom website.

I got the Arabian Nights trio and G Spot yesterday. My artist friend did an amazing eye on me using the NARS e/s primer then a thin layer of Luxor multiple. Over that she put the violet shade from the Violetta duo and smoked it out with the middle shade of AN using a damp brush. A bit of black liner and the new YSL mascara. It was gorgeous and the shadows stayed for hours. I wish I had been able to snap a quick pick to show you.

G Spot is INCREDIBLE!!!! It is more gorgeous than the photos show us. For a pale gal like me it is the perfect in from the cold flush. Used it yesterday for blush (it pairs beautifully with Luxor..my favorite multiple..as a highlight) and lip color. I couldn't be happier. So glad it is permanent. I see this looking gorgeous on all skin tones.

i saw the holiday collection last week. i left with joyous red, though it's not so vavavoom...it's very office friendly, sheerer semi matte. i love the color but wished it was a bit more opaque with pigment.

i liked the two e/l a lot too. though i wouldn't get much use out of the colors since i don't go out much. the gold is so beautiful and melts into your skin...which the violet pops and is electric. love them both.

loved the multiple too (though they make me break out in general). it was an awesome plummy color!

the trio was a disapppointment to me. i really wanted to get it! it was just a black flaky mess.....the purple swatched really nicely at first but then just flew away off my hand and was just left with a black mess. :( i was so ready to get this.

the ponderosa and other duo were nice too but just didn't call to me at the time.

I'm going to check out this new Mixing Medium. I finally bought the water based one and now there is a new one out. I'm on the fence about Arabian Nights but I'm seriously considering getting this Cheek palette. I haven't bought any Nars in ages. I had purged my collection of all Nars. I kind of miss Orgasm and have been wanting to buy Super Orgasm for a while now.
