All these comments on upcoming collections have got me thinking about what were the biggest trends and highlights from 2010.
My thoughts:
1. CORAL - it's been all about coral in every shade and tone this year. Even when a collection wasn't really pushing coral, it was the shade that everyone pounced on (Like Jazzed in ItG). Even people like me who were always wary of coral found a new love for this color. Every cosmetics company has been on this trend, although it seems like MAC is the only one taking it forward another notch into fall and winter.
2. STRONG CHEEKS - All these years we've all been avoiding bright blush, thinking it was too harsh, too old fashioned, etc. This year, slowly but surely, everything changed and the brighter the better, thanks to new formulas that take the stress out. In this department, MAC has single-handedly brought the thunder, with standouts like Two Virtues and Bi-Tone to Marine Life, Band of Roses with Bite of an Apple and the Tartan Tales collections still to come. This trend is a real game changer - we are officially out of the 90's and '00s and everyone else is gonna have to play catch up.
Looking forward, I think next year blush is going to get even more powerful and glam and I also think coral is going to trend into glorious, in your face red and orange. I also think there is going to be an undercurrent of blue-based purples and generally cooler tones, but that that won't really get going until later in 2011. All those dreams for true purple and lavender blushes are gonna come true, girls and we're going to finally get back to silver, but now in formulas and shades that work for everyone!
What do you think is coming up?
