ugggh thank the Lord some one said it, i totally agree! i mean i like her character in satc but besides that, she really just bothers me...actually, i dont even really like her character by herself all that much, i just like carrie with the other girls. i prefer kim cattrall over her any day. sjp is just annoying and getting attention because other people carrie(d) her to fame (lol get it? carrie-d) and she got all of the credit.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

I think Dame Edna would be great! I mean seriously guys, what have we all been saying about the new collections "boring colors, repeats, not enough flair" well strike me down if you dont think DE would be the complete opposite? And if DE is the new icon, wouldn't that be a huge improvement? Someone like Sophia Loren would fit the bill a lot better but I see it being along the same line as Raquel's, and more natural colors like browns and greys. I hate to break it down like this but when it came to the actual colors and products, the other Icon lines were pretty overrated and well...boring, and that assumption is based off what what I've heard from my fellow Specktrettes, and pictures I've seen. Anyway MAC is classy no matter what they do, and we all know MAC can class up anything, but MAC is also unique, cutting edge, and fabulous, and ladies, drag queens are pretty damn fabulous.

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

foxykita143, I could be wrong but based on the Icons they've had since I've been following MAC (Diana Ross, Catherine Deneuve, Raquel) I thought the Icon collections were directed at the more mature MAC fans who do not necessarily consider the things you're talking about "boring".

Re: MAC Icon Discussion 2008

Oh I definitely agree, they were all following a classic, timeless, and more mature look, I was just saying if Dame Edna was the new Icon (which by the way, I'm not too sure thats going to happen), it would actually be really interesting and fun, not as bad as everyone thinks. I, by the way, am a big supporter of the "natural" colors I was referring to.

And in my opinion, there aren't too many colors I consider boring, but what I do consider boring is repetition, especially when each past Icon has had so much you could work with to create a truly amazing line and from what I heard, it didn't really end up how anyone was hoping or imagining. I'm not saying you need fire oranges and electric blues, but more could be done to spice it up and make each line unique. I was expecting a lot from the Raquel collection, and although it was pretty (especially the tiger stripes--very cute touch), I was really expecting more. Anyway, this is just my personal opinion. If I am going to be waiting and wondering and getting excited for something, I want to feel like it was worth the wait and that I have to have it, not just...Oh..these are pretty. The products should live up to the person they are representing, right?

Who is Phillip McManus and what is "Tallaght Too Madddd"?!
I was bored, and I was reading about MAC on wikipedia, and under "promotion and advertising" it says "Phillip McManus, as part of their 2008 line "Tallaght Too Madddd" *scraches head*

I hope it's Gwen Stefani! I'm sure it's not, but I hope for the same thing every year lol.

Adding to the rumors and speculation:

I'd love to see Madonna for MAC, but the word is there will be a Shu Uemura collection for her sometime in the future, possibly Fall/Winter. She uses their products exclusively now.

Dame Edna would have been perfect for the MAC Originals collection; I could see her fitting in with a lipstick launch along the lines of the Eddie Izzard campaign. I think it's cool when MAC mixes in a little humor.

A Halloween collection with Elvira would be something new, but her image is somewhat linked with drugstore makeup and her own "brand" of costumes and accessories. Too bad Sephora snapped up Kat Von D! I'd like to see MAC step it up and celebrate Halloween as the proper makeup holiday it is, beyond the selection of "looks" they show on the website.

As far as Icons go, we can pretty much discount anyone who's been a Viva Glam spokesperson, as it seems MAC doesn't revisit past collaborations anymore (they used RuPaul for several collections in the 90's). Olivia Newton-John would be good, but she's a very safe choice. Bette Midler, Cher, Pam Grier and Goldie Hawn are campy and fun and have taken risks with their looks, definitely in the MAC spirit, but still accessible. Betsey Johnson, Siouxsie Sioux, and David Bowie would be great, edgier choices, but not as universal. I would hate to see MAC give up the Icon collection as it really rounds out the "all ages" aspect of their mission statement.

And why no Bridal stuff this year?? A lot of the colors for last year's brides have been discontinued!

You know, the more I think about it, I don't think we are going to see one this year.

I agree, Shadowy Lady, where are the bridal updates? We are amidst bridal season. The ones in place now are old news. Those should be religiously updated every year around April or May.

The MA at my counter said there wouldn't be any more icons. I guess time will tell.

no kidding. they had the same bridal looks for three years, then took em off the site a few months ago.

btw, after someone had mentioned dame edna as a possible VG spokesperson, i had a dream that that was true, along with cindi lauper (sp?) as the icon. we shall see if my dreams reveal the future.

^I agree with you there!

I am assuming that since there wasn't anything about it in the deluge of news that came out yesterday that either the Icon collection will be mid-fall but pre-Holiday, end of the year, or early 2009. That is just my assumption for now.

This is a somewhat random thought but what about Angelina Jolie. She does all kinds of charity work, she's gorgeous, a successful actress. She's also a mom of what like 6 kids now?
