I sure hope so - this would be a great collection for them to do a bunch of fun, bright colors.

The character of Dame Edna has been a popular comedic success for over fifty years. I call that pretty iconic.

This is going to be the tackiest, and most unsellable collection ever. At least here in Connecticut.

Remember all the blah blah blah about how scandalous Lure, Bait and Hooked were and how the biddies were all upset? I don't recall MAC taking a hit with that and I doubt they will *if* DE is the Icon.

I can't wait to see the collection if DE is in fact the Icon. That could be seriously fun.

Not having seen the article myself; one thing we aren't considering is Viva Glam.

Two posters in this thread said the article referred to Dame Edna as "the new face for MAC" or "spokesperson". To me, that says Viva Glams spokesperson, not Icon.

They release a new VG every 2 years, so we are due for a new one.

Part of why I love MAC is that they do the unexpected. If it is indeed Dame Edna, props to MAC, as that will really draw some attention to the Viva Glam campaign.

Did the article specifically say, "Icon"?

I agree with MAC Whore, it sounds more like a Viva Glam type collection to me, or as a new VG spokes(wo)man. It would fit in with RuPaul, Boy George, Elton John and others who have been faces for VG before.

Viva glam makes far more sense than as an Icon. No offense, but DE doesn't exactly scream "glamour" to me at least. Camp and fun - yes, but glamour - no. That plus very few people in the states will know who s/he is. I think DE had a TV show on in the states a while back that lasted exactly a New York minute.

He has been on UK tv recently as himself and not Edna for a show trying to find the next West End Nancy and Oliver, he was a judge.

I'm sure whatever MAC does, plenty of people will be all over it. I definitely hope Dame Edna is VG, not Icon. I would love a Pam Grier or Sophia Loren Icon!!

I just don't think Dame Edna would be a good face of MAC, a good Icon. I just do not get it. There's plenty of frivolous people with crazy style who stand for something. Elton John maybe? They haven't done that already right?

Oh right.
I do think he'd be a better icon than the Edna dude

I think Dame Edna would be amazing! Such a fun collection..
I think what someone said before about Dame Edna being iconic just not in the states is spot on, she/he has been an icon for many years!
