Re: MAC-Adoring Carmine/Passionately Red/Passions of Red/Little Darling Discussion
Here's a little review since I've spent some quality time with some of the products.
Shadow Palettes
I really like this year's packaging. The red is gorgeous, and the big jewel is really cute. I like that the palettes are plastic but they don't look plastic. They look metal and each one is a different color depending on the 'theme'. Very lightweight overall, especially when compared to last year's palettes. My only complaint is that the raised jewel will definitely be a problem with storing the items (for me anyway), and I am concerned about the plastic jewel getting scratched or scraped.
Devoted Poppy: Classic
The packaging is a pretty warm bright red. The colors are nice but hardly unique overall. Young Thing is a pretty satin creamy highlight color, but sort of chalky. Has a nice satiny sheen to it though. Sweet Eyes is a pretty gold color, a tad deeper than Young Thing. Would make a great highlight or all-over lid color, satin as well. Amorously is a frost and a dirty gold color. It's pretty, but not all that unique. Great lid color though! Awaken is a GORGEOUS gold-green frost. However, it is only gorgeous in the palette because no matter how much I tried to build it on my hand (over Painterly) it just didn't show up or build. It just gave a sheer golden shimmer. Performed similar to a "bad" lustre in my opinion. Fall Deeply is a gorgeous bright blue frost. One of the better colors of this palette, but seems awfully close to Freshwater (permanent). I didn't think of it at the time to swatch them next to each other though. In Awe is definitely my favorite color of this palette, but I don't love it enough to get it and be stuck with the rest of the colors. It is a deep black velvet with subtle black shimmer. Think in between Suspicion (Nocturnelle, a black with subtle gold pearl) and Smoking (Smoke Signals, black with intense gold shimmer).
Intriguing Scarlet Warm palette
The Warm palette comes in a shiny medium tone red compact. I love this one! Sweet Joy is a creamy golden frost. It's like a cross between Grain and Nylon. The perfect white gold highlight. Warm Suede is a super smooth veluxe pearl. A golden green olive color, very similar to Sumptuous Olive at first glance, but when swatched next to each other, Warm Suede is the winner. It's got a creamier consistency and more color payoff, and just sooo pretty!! Well Spiced is a satin, a very warm orangey-peach brown. Similar to Texture. When swatched next to each other though Well Spiced is just... prettier. They're similar but I liked Well Spiced better. The downside to the Warm Palette is Gentle Heat. A grey brown taupe. It is a satin but it has no shimmer, and applies very matte with little color payoff. It's the most unique color (no real dupe that I could find) but it is also really boring, I wasn't impressed. Real Drama is a gorgeous deep red wine color. I swatched it next to Sketch and it is SO much more red!! Sketch looks purple in comparison. It is a satin but it looks more like a velvet, frost, or veluxe pearl. I'm very impressed with this color, very buildable, and soooo pretty! Last but definitely not least is Grand Entrance (not from Starflash), another satin that doesn't seem like a satin. It's a deep vivid shimmery green. I thought at first that it was Humid, but it is much deeper, with more dimension. It's very warm toned but I can't put my finger on what makes it so pretty! Maybe it has alot of blue in it where as Humid has slightly more yellow? I don't know but Grand Entrance is sooooo awesome. You guys have to go touch it. It really excites me.
That's all for now, hopefully I can continue my lil review tonight! I need to go do an art project!!
