My heart goes out to all of you experiencing severe migraines.
I know not everyone believes in Chinese medicine, but if it helps any, I used to get terrible migraines with hallucinations, nausea and just total incapacitation every month around my period. Definitely hereditary - my mother would get bad ones and could barely get home from work on her own when she had them. After a particularly bad one that went on for days, I decided to do a course of acupuncture specifically for taming them. After 2-3 months of regular treatments once or twice a week, I became 100% migraine free for over 10 years. In the past few years, I get the onset sensations maybe every few months, again around my period, but I grab some advil right away and they never kick in - the worst I get is just a standard headache that lasts for a few hours until I can grab a small nap.
I don't think all acupuncturists and TCM practitioners are created equal - it's an art as well as a science. Better to find someone who got the full training that is required in Mainland China - they have to have get a PhD in a Western medical discipline AND the equivalent of an MD in Western medicine before they can take the Traditional Chinese Medical courses and get their degree/certification to practice. It's hardcore. If you don't have access to someone like that, I'm not sure what sort of results you can get. All I can say is, my doctor cured me pretty much for life - it's been nearly 15 years now migraine-free for me.
