It's not impossible to find a perfect foundation, but personally, my attitude is it's better to have at least 2 different foundations, with different finishes, for different types of looks and different occasions. I use Matchmaster for when I want a porcelain bisque, formal sort of finish and I use Mineralize for more day to day wear. I'm not the sort of person who wears foundation every day, but for all day ware, I'd rather have something gentle and with some hydration for my dry skin. For going out at night, I'm less picky about that, but I avoid foundations that are for oil control or oily or combination skin. My main thing is I care about how the finish looks - for day to day, I only want the most natural looking finish I can find, and for me, that's something with a little dewiness, to combat the dry skin.Dammit!
I just checked beautypedia's info on Loreal Nude Magic and they shoot it down due to poor sun protection (not a problem as I can wear sunscreen underneath) and a high content of alcohol (which is a big no no of mine)
On the other hand, the Mineralize foundation recommended by liba et al, while it is apparently aimed at dry skin, it is categorized in the "Best" section
I am beginning to feel like finding the perfect foundation is impossible!![]()
Once you start thinking of it in terms of finish and whatever other goals you have for your foundation, it becomes easier to narrow it down. Of course, you need the best possible skin tone match too (MAC works really well for me on that, but there are a lot of people who never feel like they're getting a good match with MAC, so there's that). You must go somewhere in person where you can be assisted in matching a perfect shade for you - with good lighting and knowledgeable people to help you and obviously testers and hopefully samples to take home before you decide.
