OK gigantic free-form musings part deux:
Best of Breed: I wanted to love this one. I really did. I marched into the store this morning expecting to grab it sight unseen. I don't like it as much as Chillin'. I'm not sure what my issue is with it. It seems more pigmented than Chillin' and it's certainly sparklier. I think it boils down to 2 things - the Cremesheen Glass texture is just nicer on the lips and it has that very smooth lustre to it that makes the lips look nice and full. BoB applies more like clear sticky lipgloss, without the shine that hugs the lips that Cremesheen Glasses have. Chillin' honestly has more color to it when applied to bare lips than BoB does, even if it's more whitish color than blue. I was hoping BoB would have the sort of micro-shimmer like Flurry of Fun or Easy Lounger, but it's more like the multicolored shimmer we've seen before, maybe milled a little finer. I keep thinking maybe I'm judging it too hard and it'd look better in sunlight.
Jealous was the same for me and that one I did get to swatch in some sunlight. I wanted to love these so much, but they don't have enough oomph to wear on their own or really alter other lipcolors (believe me, I tried HARD).
For a gloss that looked good on its own and also had the right color and opacity to transform lipsticks was....surprise.....Fancy Cat!
This was my big winner of the glosses, along with Spree (which I also bought) and Docile (which I didn't buy, but was very tempted by). This is a cool dirty chocolate brown. The base is dark, but there is a fine-milled gold and red shimmer that is heavy enough to lighten the color to a mid-tone. It looked sexy on it's on, dressy but also simple. Over lipsticks = love. It looks fantastic over Pet Me, Please. Sheer enough to let the lipstick color come through but shimmery enough to totally change and reflect in the light. This one would also be a winner over just about any of the other lipsticks - the darks, the frosts, the warm colors - the only one it probably wouldn't work over was Of Royalty, but who knows! Love it.
