MAC Glitter and Ice Discussion

I seriously wish I could have taken some pictures - I just got a new phone with a camera and everything and promptly left it at home!

I'm so curious as to why Temptalia and Karen, etc., still haven't gotten swatches/reviews up. I would be willing to bet they've been sitting on products for a while now... And I know they won't upload that stuff until MAC lets them, but WHY HASN'T MAC LET THEM!? I don't understand the game...I find that when I have swatches earlier, I tend to buy MORE than when the swatches seem last minute or are put out right before a launch. What about you all?
I am wondering the same thing. Part of me thinks they are trying to control things getting sold out too quickly...I think having things sell out is their goal and works for them in marketing, but when they sell out too soon, it works against them/gets people upset. That's the only reasoning I can come up with...Only other thought I had was maybe some behind the scenes drama or something with bloggers complaining that MAC gives product to some people sooner?

Thanks for the swatch link!

MES in "Snow Season" is so pretty! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2GM7cxoxFjQ/TpkvsiU12yI/AAAAAAAAGRg/hgvXnzy7jgI/s1600/Picnik-Collageeye.jpg

And the girl says that there is only a tiny bit of fall-out, especially compared to previous MESs ("Clarity", I'm talking to you!!)

Can't wait to see more! I LOVE the packaging.

List so far (depending on whether I get my pro discount... we got it last year on the colour story!)
- All paintpots:
- All eyeshadows
- Both Beauty powders
- All three Nail polishes (I *heart* mac polish)
- Double-spin
- Whirls & twirls (maybe too frosty... hmmm)

I went back to the MAC counter at Nordstrom and re-arranged my pre-order list. I brought along the two red MAC lipsticks I own - Eden Rouge and Runaway Red - to see how they compare to the Glitter & Ice Kanga Rouge and Such Flare (I saw particularly a few pages back there was some interest to see Runaway Red compared to Glitter & Ice reds). Additionally, I brought my Rebel lippy along with me to see how it compared to What Joy...

The reds from left to right: Kanga Rouge followed by Runaway Red, followed by Such Flare and on the end is Eden Rouge. Eden Rouge looks like Such Flare and Runaway Red had a baby and Kanga Rouge is a bright true red. I passed on Such Flare and Kanga Rouge because they didn't seem like wow factor reds any more than Eden Rouge and Runaway Red are for me.

On the bottom is What Joy on the left and Rebel on the right. I layered She Zam on top of Rebel so that's why it looks extra glossy. I skipped on What Joy because I barely wear Rebel and so I know it will last me a while whereas What Joy being more of a plummier version of a Rebel dupe wouldn't be a necessary purchase for me at this time.

The random brown swatch is Soft Sable.

For those wondering about Whirls & Twirls: my suggestion is to not follow the online swatches for the frosty/glaze lipsticks in this collection. They are much better swatched in person to see the full depth of color. I initially saw Whirls & Twirls swatched online and went - eeehhhhhhh ewww - because it seemed like it barely showed up. When I swatched the lipstick on my skin in person it turned up as a muted coral pink with a slight shimmer - completely and totally different than I expected it to be. In contrast to my original feelings, that's the only individual lipstick I'm walking away with from this collection.

My final list:
Gaga Lip kit
Sultry Lip kit
Whirls & Twirls l/s
Shimmermint e/s
Dressed to Dazzle glass
Snowglobe b/p
All three paint pots (I had to go broke or go home with the paint pots - they are absolutely gorgeous!)

For those who have gone to the parties before: will they just show the holiday collection or do I stand a chance of getting to see some of the upcoming stuff? I'm hitting glitter saturation, but I'll go if there's something else fun to see. Besides, our Atlanta f/s store wants to be our (only) pro store and I want to support them, so I'm looking for a reason to say yes.

You can't swatch a highlighter and photograph it.* It's almost impossible to do as it depends so much how the light hits the swatch. As a result, most swatches look either like nothing is showing up or they look powdery - and both are not ideal scenarios. There are just some products that cannot be swatched and photographed. Period.

I strongly recommend to swatch the b/p in person and/or trust your gut instinct if you have to order online.

* The same goes for most MSF. I always cringe if I see a powdery MSF swatch, though I understand why people apply a heavy swatch for a photograph. However, what you see in the picture will have little resemblance with how it will look on your skin if applied correctly.

I have been trying to resist but I'm starting to really want shimmermint and fresh ice the more I look at the pictures and see swatches.... I wanted to stay low on the order but it isn't looking good... They are hitting my wish list

I'm excited about that one! Do you think it'd work as a blush on NW15 skin?

So strange/odd: Temptalia tweeted that she did not receive MAC Holiday for swatching...she is going to a launch party tomorrow though...so maybe then we'll get some online swatches? Perhaps MAC is cutting back on sending items to bloggers?

I am good/lucky to have seen the collection in person, but once in a while I miss something with huge collections like this, and online swatches peak my curiosity & get me to go back and test em out.

Well it did take her ten years to post Fall Color/Posh Paradise items so I'm not really surprised. Now I'll be a bit peeved if other bloggers post the collection before her-not that it really matters in then end because I can't really go by her swatches anymore.

If it took her that long, I am guessing it's because MAC didn't send/offer to send items in advance as they have done previously. I am not sure why some are assuming she's holding off on purpose? Doesn't seem like that would be advantageous/of benefit for her.

so true!! i swatched all of my msf's for one of my videos and hubby said they all looked so similar! and yes they did but that is because i was light handed when doing the swatches and it is hard to see the subtle differences in just one photo.

Of course it's not to her advantage. She probably waits until she has every item or the majority to post the collection as a whole, which is understandable. Some just post as they get them I'm guessing.
