Mac Pro Palettes discussion

I actually have NO MAC palettes! I have a Z palette w/ random brands and I was looking into UNII palettes but they were too $$$ for the size. I have a box full of e/s and blushes that I was supposed to depot months ago, but when I heard the rumors about the new MAC palettes, I held off. When I heard about the price difference, I bought a couple online, but now I'm being swayed by pretty clear lids...

So now, I'm at a crossroads of sorts. I could go either way. Go the cheaper route and buy old style palettes online or go the prettier route and buy the new style. Buying the new style without inserts isn't an option (for me) b/c they need to look pretty and perfectly aligned! My only concern with the old style is figuring out how many I need to buy. I definitely don't want to start w/ those and then end up having half old, half new sometime in the future. That would drive me CRAZY.
That's another reason why I'm in favor of the new palettes. The inserts can hold 24 shadows aligned while the old one only holds 15. I can store more with less palettes.

I called and my free standing store does have them. At least I hope they do. The associate I was talking to seemed a little confused. When I asked her how much they cost she said $60 for the small one and $200 for the big one. I'm like I know that's not right! So I repeated that I want the new empty palettes and then she said it was $14. I still don't know if that's accurate but I'm going up there anyway.

If anyone wants to sell their old palettes I would love to buy them from you!
If I would replace my old palettes I would have to spend 174 euro or something like that

and I also don't want to have part old palettes and part new ones.

This gives me hope! I'm nervous about messing up my shadows too and I could see myself spreading everything out for depotting surgery. What's the no heat method? I think I saw it mentioned on here before, but don't remember.
i popped it off the inner plastic container as per the other tutorials
that was easy with a lil knife, i think it was my fish pairing knife

than with wire cutter (i bought it for 1.29 at one these lil dollar stores)
cut the plastic away from the metal pan making two cuts then bend the plastic back in the middle the two cuts..
vwala ..metal pan exposed on one side

dipped the tip the knife in alcohol into that lil slit of the metal eyeshadow pan
and give the alcohol a couple seconds to undo the glue
after abt a minute, slide the tip the knife under pan an it will pop right out

That's the Pro-only insert, but you can always order it over the phone. :)

Looking at my receipt, it was $18 for the large palette case, $9 for the eyeshadow insert.

I think there may be a little confusion about the inserts. There are 15 pan eyeshadow inserts and 6 pan blush inserts, as well as the Pro Only 12 & 24 inserts. The 12 & 24 inserts are actually like wells that you can decant lipsticks, cream foundations etc. sort of like the Japonesque empty wells or the BBU pallete. And as far as I know all 4 versions of the inserts should fit into the Duo palette/book form. HTH.

Just like the old lip palettes, but better. Love it! That's exactly why I will get them.

Ughh I'm still on the fence. I would love a clear lid, like the quads, but I liked them better when they were matte plastic (the old-style quads)....so I'm on the fence :/ I like my matte black mac palette haha. I only have one, though, so I suppose I should just go with the new kind. I think I'll buy a double one because I was planning on picking up my first MAC blushes, anyway, so I can store the blushes and eyeshadows together.

Hi, can i ask you a question
Is there a little latch like the old palette, does it click close?
Just like the new 4 pan palette, clicks close, no latch.

I'm dying to see the double layer. Do they have these at the Pro store now? I may go tomorrow. I can't quite picture how the 24 slots look.

Thanks for the info! Does that mean the 12/24 inserts can't store the eye shadow pans since they have wells? I'm having trouble picturing it too.
