When I got Coach I literally thought that I was going to die my allergies got so bad. I couldn't breathe, had a booming cough everytime I was around him, I wanted to rip my eyes out because they were so itchy, and was miserable. I went to the allergist and got on a few medications and I am fine. I have always grown up around cats and dogs but something about Coach's kitten dander got me bad. I do know some people that even medicine didn't help. Hopefully though it will work for you and you can get a kitty or a pup because life is so much better with them around!

Once I get health insurance I think I might talk to my Dr. and see what she thinks....

Sounds similar to me, except my eyes would also swell pretty much shut. It's worth investigating.

All this talk of cats and dogs...well, what about birds?
I have a cockatiel, and he's got such an attitude that it makes up for not having either a cat or dog. There is nothing like sitting down with an oatmeal cookie, hear fluttering, and then look to see a bird on the table happily munching on your cookie. Or to forgo an alarm clock and instead be woken up by the sweet chirping of "Hello!" and "Good morning!" (Saves money, and doesn't tick me off in the morning like an alarm does.)

completely agree!!! I have not only a doggie... but two cockatiels and two sulphur crested cockatooos!

My sulphur crested cockatoos are beautiful, they will come for cuddles and chat quietly to me, and preen my eyelashes
yes.gif
They also bark at my dog and whistle to him to confuse him
winks.gif
Their favourite phrase is "Look what I've got!" when mum (ie - me) goes into their avairy with a handful of nuts or dried fruit or vegetables. My eldest Sulphie (short for sulphur crested cockatoo) will lay on his back in my arms like a baby... very cute!

You could always look into a furless kitty, they need love too.

Or a breed of dog that has hair rather than fur.

Wow! She really loves the cat to be able to do that.

I'm only slightly allergic to cats and dogs. I did the skin test and found out I am very allergic to dust mites and cockroaches.

Which means that I can hardly avoid them. My nose is always stuffy. But I get severe swelling of eyes and lips and my palette feels sore when I eat canned shellfish. I might be actually allergic to the chemical in the processing, since I don't swell up when I eat fresh ones.

Audrey, your cats look very pretty and exotic.

My eyes swelled to, I found my neighbor was over run with them after she past and her son let the place sit for eight months.

I was constantly bombing and couldn't get rid of them, the pest control basically told me I was crazy, he said that they visit but they do not stay(connected walls). My place is too clean. Well I have issues with them even visiting. I took every piece of make up I owned and washed wiped or threw it out if it couldn't be cleaned. Everything including walls were scrubbed. I'm am completely OCD so this sent me into hysterics on many occasions that almost put me in the damned ward! I am so pissed talking about this, but would like to help you if I can.

Best thing you can do is keep your brushes covered, which is what triggered a huge reaction in me. Mine now sit in a cup in a Zip lock baggie as well as all my other make up (not saying you have to do this but I do not trust those things). For mites: Vaccuum your mattress to get rid of or keep the mite count low and change your bedding regularly and it should make a big difference. They have covers that you can purchase to cover your mattress and pillows, it will also save you some suffering. Allergic flare ups really suck. Boric Acid will kill roaches too, they can't burp it up so they poof, and they bring it back to the nest to share with the others. It does not harm anything else though, just insects that are incapable of burping. You can find it in your hardware store, just sprinkle it around floorboards and sweep it in.

Those mattress covers make a huge difference. I'm quite asthmatic as well as allergic to all kinds of dusts. It helps to put a mattress pad over it, though, or else the crinkling will make you insane.
