MAC - Stylistics Discussion

Re: Stylistics Discussion

I had done a live chat on Thursday, and the SA could not tell me when the Air Of Style would be on the website. Thanks to a friend, who alerted me on Friday that the fragrance was available to purchase on the website, was able to order. And shortly after that it was sold out. So whatever the site had, it was gone in less than a day.
That being said, I can't wait to get it!
I'm really surprised at the lack of info I got from the live chat.

The 129 brush I just got - as everyone else has said - is AMAZINGLY softer than the regular 129. Does anybody know if the bristles are made of the same thing? Seems impossible.

Ok so I caved in and bought a sheerspark powder in Pave. Only for the packaging (yes I know I'm stupid). I wanted fashionette but the mac store was sold out. Also, are these sheerspark powders blushes or eyeshadow? The MA told me it was an eyeshadow I'm like huh? Oh well, I tried pave on today and ummm...it's just like sparkly, glittery there is absolutely no color. I want to return it but I reallyyyy loveeeeeee the compact. What should I do??? Such a dilemma.

Same problem in Belgium.
Last Saturday (12/15) they launched Stylistics but all orders of the perfume have been cancelled. The Netherlands didn't even get the Stylistics collection, at least we got - well, almost - the whole collection.

Re: Stylistics Discussion

If anyone is interested in what the 129 is made from I called MAC and after looking into it they e-mailed me back the following:

"With regard to your inquiry, the M.A.C 129 Stylistics Special Edition Brush
is made of a special grade of goat hair."

I generally can't use animal hair brushes due to my super-sensitive rosacea skin, but I'm loving this brush! It's the softest MAC brush I've ever felt.

For those of you on the fence about the Mystery Powder it has a gorgeous compact, however a word of warning: the compact is quite HEAVY. If you plan to get this to tote around in the evening for your compact it will weigh a bit. The case is a metal, not plastic, so that adds a bit of weight. This is the only factor that really pushed me on the 'nay' side of buying it (I bought a MSF Natural powder instead). I would highly recommend this as a vanity keepsake--something that you can leave out on a dresser or vanity for decoration and use at home. IMHO, take a lightweight blot powder or papers with you to blot if you are going out. HTH!!

The Sheer Sparkle Powders didn't wow me. I would return it and get the Sheer Mystery Powder. That way you have the compact and something that is useful.

Question: Is Dark Secret the same as the darkest shade from last year's Couture Collection or is it lighter?

No, no and no!!! Thank Goodness!! Dark Secret is a shade lighter than last year's "Deep Dark" Mystery Powder. "Deep Dark" was too dark for me (I'm NW45). But I took a chance this year and ordered "Dark Secret", described as "deep caramel", which is the same description for the "Dark" natural MSF. Dark Secret is perfect for me. In fact I gave the Deep Dark powders to my sister and kept the compact. I put this year's extra powder in last year's compact. Last year's compact is less bulky in my purse and carries better than this year's compact.

I keep perusing the "for sale" threads hoping someone wants to sell their extra powder.....

Really, because I can't help wondering what a powder slightly darker than Dark Secret would look like. It looks fine on my face, but I am always paranoid about looking "ashy" so light powders scare me. I'm also NW45.

It looks like "mud" on your face or that your face is dirty or discolored.

Seemingly other NW45 gals got the same effect I did.

Anyway, I only looked at Red No. 5, and honestly it's a very bright and pinky red on me. I felt like I was totally trapped in one of those moments when the sales person is telling me how HOT I look when I know I'm not comfortable with how it looks on me. But I bought it anyway, and I'm pretty sure I'll never wear it. And the lipglosses are all super sheer and don't really have a lot of color payoff. But they sure are purdy in the tube...

I haven't played with the mystery powder a lot. I got deep dark. It looks nice on my forhead, but I think it muddys up my blush a bit. I'll try to update you when I've played with it more.

My two faves of the highlighters are the Pink one, Rare and Refined, and the more gold of the gold ones, La Mode. Both are really beautiful on and I think either one is a good bet.

Hope this helps!

Dark Secret is a 100 times better than last year's darkest color. I don't know why MAC can't offer shades for the deepest to the fairest instead of just 3 shades this year. They could have offered them in the same color range as the Natural MSF. Reminds me of the Studio Mist Foundation --- Dark is too light and Deep Dark is too dark for me....Go figure....

I feel the same way about the Blot Powder. I think Deep Dark is a little too dark but I'm afraid Dark would be too light. At least the formula is very very sheer.

Re: Stylistics Discussion

can someone who has last year's Couture Mystery Powder compare this year's for me?

I believe im a medium if i were to get the Mystery Powder. however, its described as soft cool beige. = not for my warm skin?

how does this year's Model Chic compares to last year's Medium? i got all excited cos on the site it says WARM Beige. heheheh

im concerned about the undertone of the powder (yellow or pinkish) because i have kinda strong yellow undertones/is asian.. i hate the too-pink-cakey-power-looking face! NC25 in Studio Fix and Fluid (but would be better if they're warmer)

TY for any replies!

Re: Stylistics Discussion

I'm a happy lady! Just received my package containing The Scene and In Vogue lipsticks and Model Chic Mysetery Powder yesterday and I'm loving them all!! I wore In Vogue yesterday with Wondergrass and Eyepopping on my eyes (I'd already done them before the postie arrived) and it looked awesome! I'm just a little weirded out by The Scene not being anything like it's swatch on the website AT ALL! Oh well, it's still lovely, just got to find a lip liner to use with it!

Re: Stylistics Discussion

In review, I don't know that any of The Stylistics wowed me. I purchased:

  • Stylistic LS
  • Witty LG
  • Tastemaker LG
  • Fashionette Sheerspark
  • Solitare Sheerspark
  • Model Chic Mystery Powder
  • Air of Style, then was given another one
  • 316 brush

In retrospect and for the most part, it was pretty common stuff, for an increased price due to the packaging. I will admit that I was not hot about the packaging until I saw it. It was great in person. Very heavy and substantial, as welll.

+ The Mystery Powder is nice, but I tend to like MAC's MSF Naturals a bit more. The MSF Naturals adhere to the skin in a more natural manner.

+ The lip products were just fine, but just that....fine. Not wow. These Couture/Stylistics lipglasses feel nice, but are so sheer. No sheer doesn't feel like the right word...they feel diluted.

+ Sheersparks seemed like a distant cousin of Sheer Shimmer powders which are OK. Good for dressing up at the holidays.

+ Air of Style smelled nice, but not a rave-worthy scent for my nose. Plus the whole having to decant it was a pain. I ended up spilling some. What is with that cheesey plastic stopper for the top of a "handblown" glass bottle?

Really the thing that stood out for me in this collection is the brushes. I am going to purchase the other three (aside from the 316 which I already purchased) and maybe return a lip product. It's a sad statement when I return something to MAC.

Good observations. I say return the lip glosses and get the brushes if you want. Why waste time with diluted gloss when you can have something you really want? Or maybe just keep one so you can say you have one. Just my thoughts.

I was surprised by "the scene" lipstick. When I saw it in the tube, it looked so dark....I said "uh, oh"; this is not going to be for me...Surprise! I love it! It is the deep berry red that was missing from my collection.

And I agree w/you about the brushes!! They have the "WOW" factor. The 129 is not like the regular 129; it is so much softer and luxurious as is the 224. I wish these would end up at a CCO as well as "dark secret" mystery powder. I would buy 2 more of each.

That mystery powder had a weird yellow color on me, that wore off during the day. Perhaps it had the meld with my skin?

MAC is hit and miss w/the mystery powders. Last year they were "off" for me and this year the color is great on me. I guess next year they're be "off" for me again....
