MAC - Surf Baby Discussion

I'm getting a bit 'meh' about this collection now. After seeing the Euro prices things do seem a bit too expensive and it probably is due to the packaging. Do we have prices in Sterling yet or are we still guessing going by the Euro prices? I'm disappointed there are no blush sticks. I was looking forward to the blush but as it is an overspray the pretty part will just disappear and I'm pretty sure I could get something else similar and I can't even decide if I'd wear that colour much.

There are some things I will definately try to get hold of, Hibiscus is a must have and I love the look of Surf The Ocean pigment stack. I might possibly go for a bronzer either in pan or stick form but it depends on how it looks on as I only have Golden and that barely shows on my skin. I'd like the yellow eye shadow and maybe Saffron. I might buy a backup of Strange Potion as it is one of my favourites. I'm curious about the Suntints. I also like the look of Bust Out! but I have Violetta, Style Curve, Playtime and Spitfire already. I do like lustre finishes though... hmmm
I was searching for prices in sterling but couldn't find any! I guess we just have to do guess work now :/ Does anyone know of any UK bloggers that review MAC products prelaunch day like Temptalia or makeupandbeautyblog? I'd love it if we had all the prices and UK launch dates instead of guessing :/

After seeing swatches of Hibiscus and Cyndi side by side I did a Hibiscus inspired lip by layering Cyndi (this is bright pink on me, where is the coral?) with Maybelline Watershine Exlixir in Coral Explosion and it made a pretty red/coral lip. I still can't wait for Hibiscus lipstick but at least I can rock my own version of it until it comes out.

On the wholemac increase issue, If the prices go up again so soon me and Mac will start parting company. Can anyone remember the good ole days of two years ago when you could get 2 eyeshadows and a lipgloss for around £30? Now its freaking £27 for two lipsticks!!!

Bust Out! is a must for me. Love the swatch. Looks like a slightly more violet color than Go For It, but kind of like a darkened LW in my eyes. I just can't help myself. I LOVE me some purpley lipsticks.

Now, if MAC can only hear my cries for periwinkle colored shadows, lipsticks and whatever else we can make into a periwinkle. Augh!!!! I'm in such a periwinkle addiction lately.

If MAC keeps up with this foolishness, they're gonna have to reinstate that lovely F&F discount they had. When was the last time....Naked Honey? Since then, sales have gone up for them I guess but IMO sales need to fall again. Things are becoming super redundant and on top of that, an increase...ugh! I understand that the prices of everything is going up but come on!!!!!!!! At least make it worth the extra $.

[/quote] :true: Extra for weird and not really special special packaging? Not really. Does this collection really only come out end of May in the US?

I've been saying for a while now that Mac is not high end. It's not drugstore, but it's not up there with Chanel, Nars, YSL in terms of price(yet) or prestige. Maybe the folks at Mac feel like they are short changing themselves by making their items so cheap and they want to be on par with the brands previously mentioned. That hurts them, in the end, in my opinion. A make up snob like me, even before i knew what the hell I was doing, was excited to go to Mac, instead of a drugstore, to explore and learn before jumping into the real high end pool. Now, if they keep it up, you might as well jump to a Guerlain or a Mufe instead of Mac. Also, I don't see their quality going up so much to merit these increases. Give me new colors, new formulas, even new packaging. Don't get me wrong, I still adore Mac and I am all over the collections, but they need some tough love. I will pay more if you give me what I need and things I couldn't imagine. They're not doing that right now.

^THIS. I first started with MAC, too, a little over a year ago now, and I have to say, I'm already getting a little bored with the same colors they're pumping out over and over again and all of the repromotes.

I really think they should put out fewer collections with really well thought out products. Not necessarily just seasonal, but not three-four a month. That's when it gets to be ridiculous. And they can only alter a color so many times.

They need to start making more things permanent. I say at least 3 things from every collection ought to be permanent. So, to get things back on track: I am still dreaming of the Surf the Ocean pigments. Cannot wait!

Very good observations. I wonder if they aren't trying to price themselves in line with NARS, MUFE and Urban Decay, who are higher than Mac, but a little lower than prestige brands like Chanel and Guerlain (ones affiliated with fashion houses). My annoyance over that is that Mac introduces so many new and limited products that it can get hellishly expensive, whereas other brands have comparatively small seasonal offerings, some of which then become part of their permanent collection. Mac's strength, in my mind, has always been its breadth. They have an incredible range of colours available, which allows you to buy several colours in the shades that you love (no one can touch the number of purple lipsticks they've offered). But the reason I've always tended to buy more is because they were so much cheaper than truly high end brands. As the difference becomes less, I can afford less, so I'll stick to buying fewer items from them. That means, in the end, that they'll make less money from me.

I'm a little confused with the euro prices, I read 2 different euro prices and the big make up bag will cost something between 30 and 38 euros, depends the country, and I'm sure Greece will have the higher price as always, that means "bye bye" mu bag!!! Seriously Mac???? 38 euros for a mu bag????

The packaging is so pretty on this collection but the only thing I might get is:

- Short Shorts e/s
-Sun Blonde e/s

I'm interested in swatching the bronzing powders and my paradise in the store also the gilded white pencil. I don't need anymore bronzers but they looks so appealing.

I'm confused about euro prices too ... I don't know if an eyeshadow will cost 15,50 euro or 18,50 euro or 19 euro ...... the blush cost 23 euro ... or 30 euro??? there is a big difference!!

I hope there isn't a perm. price increase. the prices of everything else in life seem to be increasing, please not the makeup too!

this collections is not really looking too unique. I am seriously going to take a few of my blushes with me when I go check out the My Paradise blush. I think it may be very similar to Illamasqua's Excite. If so, I'm not going to get it. The Illamasqua blush is cheaper (not sure how it compares volume wise thought, but it's available all the time.

The masterminds at MAC should put out less color collections (not including foundation or mascara or skincare) as it would give them a chance to focus on colors that would blow us away and not look like the colors from 2-4 weeks or 6 months ago, etc. I like that MAC offers items at mid range cosmetics prices, NARS, MUFE, etc are a splurge for me. But mid-range pricing shouldn't mean lets give our customers the same old thing. I am at the point where I don't mind waiting to save a bit and going for something different with other, more expensive and unique brands.

on the other hand, all MAC customers are not regulars and it can be surprising to us how "new" mac colors and collections are to makeup buyers overall. We here at specktra and on line are a unique and tiny bunch of make-up enthusiasts when looking at the grand scheme of things. We look at makeup all the time, so we catch things the average MAC consumer may not. I joke lovingly, and its a good thing cause I love makeup... but i think we know too much.

100% agree. When I got out of drugstore makeup I was crazy for MAC. Now I rarely get anything anymore. Other than pigments and brushes I really don't get excited about much of anything from them. I use NARS, Chanel, Dior, MUFE, etc. and they are leagues apart as far as quality goes. A lot of drugstore companies have upped their game, and I would put MAC shadows in the same quality category with a heftier price tag.

I also use the NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk (white liner-esque) in the inner corner like xsparkage as a base for my inner corner highlight! makes the highlight shade much more vibrant and eye brightening

I'd like to create a four pan palette with Saffron, sun blonde and surf usa.. which bright/light green do you suggest to add? I was thinking about bitter or lime!

Hi!
I'm Julia from Germany. So this is my very first post. ;)
I got two things of the new collection and I wanted to share some pics with you. I got my paradise cheek powder and strange potion lipglass. Since there's no swatch thread yet, I'll post them here. Swatched on skin lighter than NC15 (I guess NC05-NC10).

Surf, Baby! Cheek Powder 'My Paradise' (just klick)

Surf, Baby! Lipglass 'Strange Potion'

Hope you don't mind my bad English. ;)
