MAC - Surf Baby Discussion

maybe its something to do with the formulation or also depending on your colouring it could be used as a contour or bronzer?

I agree - way too pigmented to use all over the face. On me, I think it would be way too pigmented full stop. I'm pale skinned

yeah, bronzer doesn't always have to be used all over the face, and contouring can be very minimal - depends on your colouring. I'm NC20 so for me it will be a blush, its apparently similar to Springsheen which I love so whatever MAC calls it, as long as it looks good I don't mind
I went to see this collection yesterday. Here are my thoughts (I'm paler than NC15 at the moment if someone's interested):

Eye shadows:

- Short Shorts was exactly like Nylon on my hand when I swatched them.
- Swell Baby is a beautiful medium grey, nicely pigmented and pulls quite neutral on me. This one came home with me along with
- Sun Blonde and Surf USA. SB is so ugly that I had to get it. It's not really yellow, not really chartreuse, not really gold. It's kind of a pale greenish mustardy yellow? Any weirder or uglier? It could be cousin to Gorgeous Gold. It's really ugly. Ugly. It's exciting to see what can I come up with it. :)
And while on my way to the counter I kept thinking don't get Surf USA, because you have enough teals and turquoises to last a lifetime. Yet I got it. It was greener and more electric than I thought, really pigmented! I couldn't think of an exact dupe while I was there so I had to get it. I might find one that is somewhat similar if I go through my stash, but not many that's for sure. It's greener and brighter than Shimmermoss, and also darker than Aquadisiac.
- Saffron is divine, I thought about getting a backup of it, but I've never needed one so I let it be.

There was only one pigment stack on the display (the blue one), the other one comes later. The colours were pigmented, the platinum and gold were very metallic, high shine frost, like foil. The texture was rough.

Lippies:

- Krazy Kahuna - I was surprised I liked this one! It shows the red/orange undertones beautifully so it's not too brown, it reminded me of Temper Tantra so I was brave and got this one too. It's like a reddish brick colour on my lips.
- Good Lovin' - I got this one even though it's nothing special. Just a neutral peachy pinky nude, I suppose great with any look.
- Strange Potion I got from VV.
- The pale gold gloss was too pale and whiteish for my liking.

- Hibiscus is BRIGHT! It reminded me of Toxic Tale, not quite as neon, and more red. Can't wait to wear it. This will look great with any skin tone like Candy Yum Yum.
- Mocha is something I'm interested in after Temper Tantra turned out to work great for me. I will pick up this later.

Eye pencils:

- Gilded White has a strong gold cast to it, it's like Nylon/Short Shorts in pencil form.
- The teal pencil was like Float On By from To The Beach. Nothing too special.

I didn't get the blush with the overspray. It was quite nice, but to unique enough for me at this point. It's more orange than Fleur Power (FP looked pink next to it) and much much more pigmented and brighter orange than Peaches. I have and love Devil, so I felt I didn't need this one. Also when I blended it in, it had reddish tones coming out and I thought it might look like I had fever/sunburn. Remind you I'm extremely pale now, so it looked insanely bright on my skin, which is good too if one's after those brights. Tested with the overspray, it was very gold and shimmery.

The bronzer sticks weren't there yet so I will check those out later.

Finally I got both nail polishes, they were nice. The pink sandy nude is going to be very nice neutral for summer.

So my haul was
- Swell Baby e/s
- Sun Blonde e/s
- Surf USA e/s
- Krazy Kahuna l/g
- Good Lovin' l/g
- Hibiscus l/s
- Hangin' Loose n/p
- Ocean Dip n/p

If someone here wants some comparison pictures please let me know! :)
Thanks a lot for your great review and great haul :) Glad to read that Hibiscus is more red than Toxic Tale, which was too orange on me. How are things on your side?

I will use it as a blush and only in the summer because I get tan (now I'm NC20/25 but I can easily reach NC 30/35 in Summer!)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :D
Would you mind posting a pic of Blue Noon vs. Float on By?
I'm a sucker for teals. XD
Thanks!

I just tried Sun Blonde, and on my lids it hasn't got that greenish cast, it's more just mustardy yellow. I like strange colours like that. I put Nylon on my inner corner, SB on lid and Saffron on outer corner and crease. Oh, and I was wrong, it's not so close to Gorgeous Gold after all, it's darker and has more orange to it, while GG looks pale lemony gold with greenish duochrome next to SB.

Swell Baby and Surf USA went beautifully together. :)
I'm sorry I didn't get Blue Noon, but what I can remember from swatching, it is very similar to FoB. I love teals too, but I had no urge to get this one, it was that familiar looking. :)

^^ PinkBasset, good to hear you like Hibiscus. On my list are Hibiscus and Swell Baby (I cannot say no to a grey) and for a while Sun Blonde (greenish yellowish weird colour, hello). If it ever launches that is ;) And maybe a nail polish. I am good :)

You're welcome sweetie! Funny, I wish Toxic Tale were a bit more orange on me, now it has a pink undertones to it. ;) But I'm all happy now with Hibiscus! I hope you'll love it. :) I have been very busy with school lately, and I also had an art exhibition so it kept me busy too. But hopefully in a short while I can keep my cosmetic-addiction fully alive again! :) How are you? What are you planning to haul from Surf Baby?
