MAC - Surf Baby Discussion

I think after all...I'm just getting Hibiscus, because I know I can't change my mind later on that color. I just bought some NARS loose powder so I don't need Gold-Go-Lightly, and I can achieve something close to the Krazy Kahuna + Mocha look with Mocha + Auburn lip pencil, if a little bit more red (which I like).

Even thought Surf Baby releases the day after my birthday I need to stop buying things close to what I already have and spend my birthday money on new investments...like the MUFE Aqua Liners.

Lol! You are most likely right. I was on St. Laurent last night, post Mac haul.

Interestingly, circumstances forced me to spend much of the day in the neighbourhood of the Mac Pro store today (I swear, I didn't plan on going back) and I was sorely tempted by the Surf the Ocean pigment stack and, surprisingly, Naturally Eccentric. I went to show The Great Enabler that it really didn't work and when I tried it on again... it worked. I'm completely confused.
hello!
lol - i was pretty close to going back around the corner after my hair appointment for the second set of purchases...right now i'm debating between doing it online and going back to one of the stores/counters. i really wish they just used canada post for online orders, because i like being able to go in to the post office at my leisure to pick up...rather than someone having to be around to sign for...
the great enabler sounds great! did you end up getting the pigment stacks? somehow i don't feel tempted by them, but i pretty much love everything else!

If anyone doesn't want there My Paradise blush I'll take it of your hands!
I want to buy it but I can't get it with all the other things I want.

I am skipping Surf Baby. Nothing is really OMG I need that ya know? I really liked To the beach more. Instead I decided to get a Chanel Bronze Corail and other goodies :D

I feel kinda the same - to the beach was a lot better for me too. I *could* have loved this one too but there isnt much jumping out at me other than Hibiscus - though Im not convinced Im not just buying it for the name/packaging because I never usually like or wear bright colors like that!

Less than 7 hours to go! Hopefully it's a midnight launch anyway. I don't want to sit at my computer all day waiting for it to show up.

Let the madness and scrambling commence! xD I am still scratching my head about what I want. I have to make a decision soon. I hate regrets!

Has it ever launched at midnight(Sun/Mon) before? I was thinking some time tomorrow evening or Tuesday morning. I'm all ready to get Hibiscus. I really hate ordering one item, but Hibiscus is all I really want. I'll see what happens. :haha:

I was just wondering the same thing. Seems WW came online at some bizarre "off" time too.

I'll only be getting Hibiscus and possible My Paradise blush. Trying to save money for Semi-Precious! I really hope Hibiscus works for me though. Corals always really orange on me

I decided to skip the pigment stacks. Although the blend out very smoothly, things with an even slightly rough texture like that tend to irritate my eyes. I felt a slight burning even using a little of the gold, so I think that they'd end up looking very pretty in my makeup drawers. I know what you mean about Fed Ex. I love that things get here so fast, but it can be frustrating when no one's at home... I used to just get them to ship to my office.

I put up a bunch of swatches in the appropriate swatch thread, showing the best comparisons that I could find in my stash. (Weirdly, despite the fact that it's constantly available, I don't own Shimmermoss, which is why it isn't included in my comp with Surf USA.) You can also read my full review, see all the swatches and see a couple of looks I did with the SB products on my blog post here:

I have to say that this collection is a nice reminder of Mac doing things well. Fashion Flower and Quite Cute had some hits, but they left me a little cool overall and Flighty... well, the less said about that the better.

yep also in my opinion this has been a good collection... my biggest haul ever probably because I don't own a lot of make up and I didn't find Surf Baby full of dupes

Not sure about anyone else but I feel like my list for this collection has changed so much from the beginning.

My first purchase was Hibiscus, My Paradise, and Billionaire Bronze. Next was Sun Blonde and Saffron. I keep going back and forth on getting Surf USA, Swell Baby and Krazy Kahuna when the collection launches on Thursday in stores. I keep thinking about what I already have in my stash and if I'm buying dupes or similar colours, but then I feel like I'm going to regret not getting an LE item. I guess I might as well get them and donate anything barely used to my friends who are slowly getting into MAC and cosmetics in general (I gave my best friend a whole bunch of backups that were still in boxes).

There are times I fee like "crazy makeup lady", taking in stray eyeshadows and lipglosses. Someone please tell me I'm not crazy. LOL

argh. I'm still on the fence about My Paradise....

Kate, I love reading your reviews - - Your blog is fantastic! And the looks you did - - BEAUTIFUL!
I especially love the "cool" look you did with Surf USA and Bust Out!
And your description of Sun Blonde being so ugly, it's pretty is spot-on! But as a blue eyed girl and a lover of unique colors, I am definitely getting that one!

I'm back at not getting Hibiscus haha I just keep going back and forth. I really need to save money for my wedding (and Semi-Precious LOL) and in reality I dont think I'll really wear it much. Back to the teal stack and Surf USA, I'm ok with that.

Visited my FS MAC store today while doing a Sephora return, and one of the MAs let me into the back to see all the Surf Baby stuff! I have to say though...I came away VERY disappointed. On me, Bust Out! looks exactly the same as Up the Amp, and beloved Hibiscus was not the corally red I hoped it to be but a muted, almost dusty orange. I had to really pack on both to get them to show up on my very pigmented lips. This collection's a skip for me, I'm afraid. Ah well, more NARS and MUFE money. :3

Hibiscus on me. Ignore the sloppy lipstick job, I was in a rush. >_>

L to R: Hibiscus, Bust Out!, Gilded White, Krazy Kahuna.

I wear NARS Sheer Matte in Tahoe for reference. Pics were taken outside in mid-day natural light, no flash.

Just a thought for those waiting to see if it will be launched tonight/Monday. US and Canada launches are always the same day. Monday is a holiday in Canada. Not sure if they'd hold off on the launch until Tuesday because of that. Of course we'll all be checking regularly to see! LOL
