I'm as far from an expert as you can get. That's why these are idea for someone like me - I don't know what I'm doing really so these seem to not need a lot of work. I never do your description of a proper eye - I'm literally a one shadow at a time girl. I never could get the blended look like I wanted so I gave up. Lol. For the record I have pretty big eyes and such a
natural deep crease so you can never see what I put there anyway. I have Black Gold and I would think it would be a good outer corner color. I used it as a smokey all over though. Hahahaha - I've painted a vision that I'm walking around like a clown but I promise it isn't that bad!
Try putting crease color a little a bit above the crease. Don't worry, it won't look strange.
