Okay I just have to say something being the aunt of little girl that loves Brat dolls and does not like Barbie.
Brat dolls are all the rage with little girls these days lol, and I don't agree with how some of them look, but I realize when i'm out with my niece, that she's not looking at them the way I do, I think the whole "looks like a skank" thinking is more adult thinking rather than what kids think. I do buy her Bratz, but i'm picky about which one I actually go about getting for her, I will not buy her one of the barely dressed skanky ones, but I do get her the cutely dressed ones, because those do exsist as well.
Also, I'm latina and growing up I had tons of Barbies but never once did I aspire to look like them, to me they were just pretty dolls that I can do hair on and dress lol.
